Chapter 10

3 min read662 words

Raidor's fist slammed down on the table, splitting the simple wooden table in two.

"Are you kidding me! Stop treating people like this!"

It was a roar of anger unleashed from the depths of his soul.

Raidor had been exiled to the frontier because he was chosen as the wielder of the holy sword Dainsleif.

And yet, the people who exiled him were now telling him to come back because they needed the power of the holy sword. The arbitrary nature of their demands was something he could not possibly suppress his emotions over.

"What do you think a person's life is! I'm not some toy for you to use as you please!"

"Your Highness! Please calm down!"

As Raidor reached for the hilt of his sword, Melthina's guards hurried to stop him.

However, a knight who stepped forward from the right to restrain Raidor was struck in the throat with a lightning-fast draw and thrust.

"Ugh!?"

"Shut up! Do you want to be killed?"

"Ah...!"

One of the two knights guarding Melthina was knocked backward, lying on his back with a blow to the throat. The other, faced with the intense killing intent, froze in place.

The guards were well-trained and not weak, but Raidor, with his extensive combat experience in the frontier city, could easily dispatch them with his bare hands.

Especially against a noble lady like Melthina, he could strangle her slender neck with one hand and take her life like a chicken.

Raidor, confirming that the two guards had been silenced, gripped the hilt of his sword with his right hand.

"Melthina... answer carefully. Are you telling me to fight? To risk my life for you and your people who exiled me from the capital?"

"Your Highness... please calm down. This is for your own good as well."

"Is that so... explain yourself. While I still have control."

Even as Raidor glared down at her, Melthina's eyes did not blink as she looked up at her enraged childhood friend.

Seeing the determination in her tightened lips, Raidor's head cooled slightly.

"The king has said that if Lord Raidor stands on the battlefield as the wielder of the holy sword, he will grant any wish. Of course, this includes restoring your status as a noble, and it is possible to obtain a more prosperous territory, not just a frontier."

"Hah, is that it!"

Five years ago, he would have jumped at such an offer, but unfortunately, it held no appeal for the current Raidor.

He had already made the frontier city his new home and had no desire to return to the capital. Moving to another territory was out of the question.

"If that's all you have to say, you can leave. To call my territory a frontier like this is quite a statement."

"That wasn't my intention... but can you really not return to the capital?"

"Enough already, get out while I still have my sanity!"

"I see... then there's no other way."

Melthina lowered her eyes and sighed in resignation.

Raidor snorted and reached for the door to show her out, but his eyes widened when he saw a gem-like object that Melthina had taken out from somewhere.

"You...!"

"I don't want to do this... but I must restrain you, Your Highness."

"Damn...!"

In Melthina's hand was a red gemstone, a magic item that could store a spell and activate it with a delay.

The red gemstone shattered in Melthina's hand.

Chains shot out from the gem like snakes emerging from a disturbed nest, wrapping around Raidor's body and binding him.
