Thus, the town of Ulfin in the eastern part of the Kingdom of Zain was captured by the royal army without shedding a drop of blood.
Furthermore, every single member of the infiltration team working for King Granado, who had been hiding in Ulfin, was captured, and the plot to defame Raidor by massacring the townspeople was buried in darkness.
Raidor, who had annihilated the infiltration team, stepped into the grounds of the viscount’s mansion, walking calmly under the gaze of the townspeople.
Sven Arbeil, the mastermind behind the capture of the mansion, greeted Raidor as he passed through the gate.
"I've been waiting for you. It seems your mission went well, too."
"Yes, no problem."
Raidor briefly replied to the young strategist and pointed behind him with his thumb.
Following behind Raidor were Daren and his subordinates, as well as the members of the infiltration team, who were bound with ropes. The spies, who had been shown the overwhelming power, seemed to have given up on escaping and followed with dark expressions. The only exception was the male magician known as the 'Fire-Eater.' The man, who looked unusually relaxed for a captive, was frowning as he chewed on a weed from the road instead of his usual cigarette.
"What about the viscount's soldiers? They seem unusually calm..."
Raidor asked Sven, glancing at the gate guards. The soldiers, who were supposed to be under the command of Viscount Ulfart, were calmly performing their duties despite their lord being defeated. The viscount's mansion, which showed no signs of distress over the lord's death, was an abnormal situation in itself.
"The viscount is dead, but his aunt, the viscountess, is still alive. She persuaded the soldiers to peacefully hand over the mansion and the town to the royal army."
The viscountess of Ulfart was a woman who had married into the family from the Arbeil family and was Sven's aunt. She apparently harbored resentment towards the viscount, who had betrayed his own family and sold them to the empire, and was happy to cooperate with the capture of the town and the persuasion of the soldiers.
"I didn't think we could capture the town without killing a single soldier. You're quite the strategist."
Raidor sincerely praised the strategist who had devised the plan to capture Ulfin in just one day. Strictly speaking, the viscount and the leader of the infiltration team had lost their lives, but considering the scale of the town, the casualties were negligible.
"I am truly honored by your praise, Your Highness. Speaking of which, I have one request..."
"Hmm? What is it?"
"The viscount's family, my aunt and her daughter, were not involved in the rebellion. I would like to request Your Highness's protection for them..."
Treason is a crime that punishes the entire family. According to the kingdom's laws, the viscount's betrayal would result in the execution of his wife and children. However, to Sven, the viscountess was his aunt, and her daughter was his cousin. Even though his hatred for the traitorous viscount had not diminished even after avenging him, he did not want to harm his innocent relatives.
"Very well. I will use the authority given to me by my brother—the power over the lives of captives—to protect the viscount's family."
"I am grateful for your mercy, Your Highness."
"Don't worry. It's a small price compared to your efforts."
Raidor nodded approvingly and clapped his hands. The matter was settled. They would now discuss what to do after the battle.
"Well... with the defeat of Viscount Ulfart, there are only five border nobles left to purge. Do you have any plans, my strategist?"
"Of course! Leave it to me!"
Sven proudly puffed out his chest and raised his index finger.
"Since we have them, let's use the spies you captured, Your Highness. Even a parent can be useful if they stand. Although, I don't have a parent, of course."
Sven added a joke that left Raidor at a loss for words, but he said it with a mischievous grin.
Thank you for your continued support.
