Gao Xi returned to his room and picked up the bag of water on the table, then walked out of the house.
In the courtyard, a little goat lay there with its head drooping, completely exhausted, as if it were on the verge of death.
Beside it was the veterinarian.
And Gao Xi's father.
The veterinarian was a well-known old vet in the area, and whenever any livestock fell ill, people would call him. This time was no exception.
Actually, this little lamb, which was less than half a month old, had been weak since birth. It stood up later than other lambs, and its mother seemed to dislike it, unwilling to let it come close.
Recently, the little guy's condition had worsened. Although the vet had been treating it for the past two days, the situation had only gotten worse.
When Gao Xi came out, he saw the vet shake his head and say to his father, "Dig a hole and bury it. This little guy has suffered enough."
"Can't be saved?"
"Right, can't be saved. I'll be off then; there's a cow in the neighboring village I need to check on. Fortunately, this little one hasn't been around long, or you'd be heartbroken." The vet spoke as he packed his medical kit and placed it on his motorcycle, preparing to leave.
Seeing this, Gao Xi frowned slightly.
"Dad, I'll go bury it."
"Alright, bury it far away, so no dog digs it up." His father didn't seem to be in a good mood, after all, it was their own lamb, and he was definitely heartbroken.
Waving his hand, his father went back to the room, probably to smoke a few cigarettes to calm down. Gao Xi knew his father always did this when he was upset.
Seeing his father return to the room, Gao Xi picked up a bamboo basket and put the little lamb inside. He quietly sneaked into the second floor of his house.
"Xi, what are you carrying the bamboo basket for?"
Unexpectedly, his mother's voice came from the kitchen as soon as he entered the living room.
"Ah, there's some trash in my room that I need to clean up and throw away." Gao Xi sighed in relief when his mother didn't come out of the kitchen and quickly made an excuse.
"Is that so? By the way, there's something I need to tell you. Our dog just had puppies. Tomorrow, take the bamboo basket and put a few of them in the neighboring village to see if anyone wants to raise them. We can't keep them all."
This sounded a bit strange, but it wasn't the first time. Since the Gao family raised sheep, they also kept some local dogs. However, these dogs would have puppies every year, and too many of them were a problem. These dogs weren't valuable, and no one wanted to buy them. Killing them seemed too cruel, so they could only release them.
"Alright." Gao Xi agreed readily because he had a good idea. His space needed some guard dogs, so he might as well bring them in, saving him the trouble of buying them elsewhere.
"Strange, why are you so agreeable this time? Didn't you always think it was wrong?" Gao Xi's mother muttered in the kitchen, but Gao Xi didn't hear her. Instead, he quickly opened the door, locked it from the inside, and recited the incantation to activate his space. He brought the bag of life water and the nearly dead little lamb into the space.
He couldn't cure diseases, so he could only try to revive the dead. He gave the little lamb some life water and then placed it on the grass. Carrying the bamboo basket, he left the space to bring in a few puppies.
These puppies were just born, each looking very cute. When he left with five puppies, the mother dog almost went mad, barking furiously.
Sigh, this kind of heartless act of separating mothers and children, Gao Xi had done more than once. But it was for the best. If these puppies were left there, they would eventually starve to death, and the family didn't have the energy to take care of them.
Otherwise, they wouldn't release them every year.
This time, besides bringing five local puppies, Gao Xi also took a hammer and pliers from his father's toolbox. He was very curious about what was on the third floor of the ancient tree, but the lock had no key, so he had to use brute force.
The five little guys hadn't even grown all their fur, many parts were still bare, and they didn't look very good, like hairless rats. But once their fur grew in, they would look much better.
Local dogs weren't show dogs, but some were very beautiful, depending on the owner's preferences.
When Gao Xi re-entered the Dark Elf base, he almost dropped the bamboo basket because the scene in front of him was astonishing.
The little goat that had been on the verge of death was now jumping around, chasing butterflies. The jump wasn't high, but it was full of energy.
Gao Xi couldn't believe his eyes, so he rubbed them to make sure he wasn't seeing things. The little guy saw him and ran over, bleating as if it recognized him, rubbing its head against his pants.
"Miracle! As I thought, the life water is effective not only on plants but also on animals. It seems that in the future, we won't have to worry about treating sick livestock." Gao Xi was now certain of his hypothesis.
Seeing the cute little goat, Gao Xi squatted down and gently stroked its head, saying, "You're so lively now, I can't take you out, or people will suspect. From now on, you'll live here with me. Hmm, I should give you a name. How about 'Dabai'?"
Dabai wasn't very big, but it would grow. Gao Xi's naming was rather irresponsible, as he had just watched a Hollywood animation and remembered the name "Dabai," so he used it.
The poor little goat didn't know its owner's laziness and bleated happily, jumping around as if very pleased.
"Haha, you think Dabai is a good name too?" Gao Xi was quite pleased with himself, feeling that his first attempt at naming a goat had been so well-received.
"Woof!"
Suddenly, the puppies in the bamboo basket let out a clear bark, which didn't sound much like a dog but more like a baby's cry. It seemed they were protesting not being named.
"Alright, alright, I'll name you too." Gao Xi was now addicted to naming, but he thought it was necessary. The five puppies needed to be distinguished, and they needed names.
But to be honest, Gao Xi wasn't good at naming. After looking at the five puppies, he suddenly slapped his thigh and exclaimed, "Got it!"
"You little guy, you're so small but can already run. I bet you'll be very fast in the future, so I'll call you 'Lightning.' That one, you look so tough, you probably think you can be a leader, so I'll call you 'Captain America.' And that black one, you're so mysterious, how about 'Batman'? Hmm, you seem quite satisfied. The other two, the big one, I'll call you 'Hulk,' and the other one, you're a local dog but have white fur, and you're a girl? I'll call you 'Snow White.' Hehe, I'm quite talented."
"Protest, why is my name so different!"
Of course, this was Gao Xi's imagination, as Snow White barked unhappily after getting her name.
But the protest was无效! Look at your beautiful white fur, calling you Snow White is perfect. That's it.
"Ah!" The little white dog drooped its ears in resignation, accepting the name.
"Dabai, take care of your siblings. I have to do some work." Since only Lightning could walk, and even then, it would fall after a few steps, the other four couldn't stand up at all. Gao Xi couldn't stay with them, so he entrusted this important task to Dabai.
A little goat taking care of five puppies?
If people outside knew, they would call Gao Xi crazy.
But in fact, perhaps because it had drunk the life water and become smarter, Dabai seemed to understand Gao Xi's words. It rubbed against Gao Xi's leg affectionately and then went to play with the puppies.
Gao Xi was initially worried and observed from nearby. After a while, he couldn't help but laugh. These little guys were so cute.
Dabai picked up Snow White with its mouth and let her ride on its back, making Snow White very happy.
The other puppies were not pleased.
Captain America, Batman, and Hulk used Dabai's legs as trees, trying to climb up, while Lightning ran around Dabai, showing off its speed. Sometimes, it ran too fast and fell, rolling a few times.
Fortunately, the ground was covered with thick grass, so even if they fell, it didn't hurt. The little guys were having a great time.
Seeing that everything was fine, Gao Xi took the hammer and pliers and entered the ancient tree, going to the third-floor bedroom. He started working with the pliers and hammer.
After a series of extremely violent actions, the lock finally fell to the ground and opened with a creak.
The room was large, looking like a laboratory or research room. There was a telescope by the window, and the room contained many strange instruments. Although they were spotless, Gao Xi could tell that no one had used this place for a long time.
