Looking at the five little puppies playing joyfully, Gao Xi felt a surge of happiness well up in his heart for no reason.
Life should be like this, simple and peaceful, happy and carefree every day. Too much excitement can lead to an early death.
He patted Da Bai's head, telling it to continue taking good care of the five puppies, and then Gao Xi returned to the room on the fourth floor.
He searched the place again carefully, but unfortunately found nothing else. So he took out the two boxes containing weapons.
The more he looked, the more shocked he became. If these two items were indeed real, he would have to find a way to sell them. With money, he could buy a very large ranch and truly become a big ranch owner, instead of living in such a small place with sheep, where the air in summer is filled with the smell of sheep droppings, which is really uncomfortable.
Although he couldn't be completely sure that one was gold and the other was platinum, they should be pretty close. If they were just ordinary materials, who would be so careful to put them in boxes?
No, he had to get them appraised to be sure, otherwise it would always be a nagging worry.
But he didn't dare to have them appraised in the country. He had heard of a news story where someone carrying a batch of gold was caught and spent several decades in prison. Even though he was eventually released, his youth was gone, and his life was ruined.
The country has very strict controls on gold transactions, mainly because many things are required to be turned over to the state.
The United States is a capitalist society, so the controls should be a bit looser. He had heard that Dong Chen's father knew the owner of a gold shop in the U.S. If he could contact this acquaintance, it would be easier to get them appraised.
It would be better to sell these things discreetly, without making a big fuss. It's not that Gao Xi is timid, but he doesn't understand these matters. If something really went wrong, he wouldn't be able to handle it.
Of course, he needed to talk to Dong Chen about this. If possible, he could help get a tourist visa, which would be more convenient. The key was that he had never been abroad, not even to Hong Kong or Macau, and he didn't know what procedures were needed. He would have to ask Dong Chen about it.
The moment he opened QQ, Gao Xi let out a helpless smile. Dong Chen was indeed still being ganged up on by those few computers, complaining in QQ.
"Hey, Xiao Dong, winning and losing is a common thing in battles. Don't be so anxious. We can team up and take them down next time."
"Damn, you actually dare to log in. Where were you just now?" Dong Chen had played a few games on his own while Gao Xi was offline, all one-on-four matches, but the opponents were just simple computers. He was seeking revenge.
With his skills, defeating four simple computers was no problem, so his mood improved a lot.
"Ah, don't mention it, Xiao Dong. You don't know! I never thought life could be so fragile and pitiful."
"I'm sorry, I didn't know something happened at your place." Dong Chen felt a bit guilty and quickly said.
"Damn, who said something happened at my place? It was my little lamb that had a problem."
"Cough, is everything okay now?" Dong Chen coughed a few times to cover his embarrassment and asked.
"It's fine now. My dad made me bury it. It should be living happily in another world now." Actually, this wasn't far from the truth. In a strict sense, the Dark Elf camp could be considered another world, and the little lamb had gained a new life.
"Condolences!" Dong Chen sighed. "Hey? You haven't told me why you're contacting me. I know you only go on QQ when you have something to ask."
"Um, there is something. Let me explain, Dong Chen. I have some gold I want to sell, but I'm not sure if it's real. I heard your dad knows a gold shop owner over there. Can you help me contact him? I want to go to New York."
"Hey, buddy, are you running a fever?"
"No fever, what are you talking about? Gold, why don't you say you have some diamonds?" Dong Chen said irritably.
"I swear to the great leader, I'm not lying at all." Gao Xi said seriously.
"Don't swear. Send me a few photos first. I know a bit about gold, let me see if it's real." Dong Chen said.
"Heh, I knew you'd say that. I'm ready." Gao Xi didn't plan to send photos of the two weapons. He had picked up two small pieces of gold from the gold mine, each probably less than ten grams, not even an ounce.
But that didn't matter. He just wanted to make Dong Chen take this seriously, to show that he indeed had gold, not just talking nonsense.
He sent the photos directly through QQ. Gao Xi didn't know before that QQ could be used in the U.S. He thought Chinese apps wouldn't work abroad. After getting to know Dong Chen, he realized how narrow-minded he had been.
But it wasn't his fault. He had never been to Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan, let alone the U.S. He knew everything about the U.S. only from TV and books.
Of course, he was clear about one thing: the two thousand yuan he earned each month working for his dad, when converted to U.S. dollars, was less than four hundred dollars. It was a rip-off, so he swore he would never go there.
But now it was a special situation. He wasn't going to the U.S. for fun, but to handle important business. If this went well, he wouldn't lose money; instead, he would make a lot. Then he could buy a piece of land in a sparsely populated area, set up his own ranch, and live a comfortable life. Maybe he could even get a private plane, and whenever he wanted to return to China, he could fly back in his private plane. How cool would that be?
"Damn, this is really gold, no doubt about it. As long as you haven't Photoshopped the pictures, I'm ninety percent sure. How much do you have?" Dong Chen asked.
"It's real, and there's quite a bit. If it was just a little, I wouldn't go to the U.S. to sell it. I could find a gold shop in the country to handle it." Gao Xi didn't specify the exact amount because he didn't fully trust Dong Chen, especially since it was real gold, over two hundred pounds, which would make anyone envious.
"Tell the truth, did you rob a bank?"
"Get lost! Do I look like a criminal?" Gao Xi said irritably.
"Then how did you get it? Did it fall from the sky?" Dong Chen asked.
"Did you dig it up from the ground? You know, in our country, everything underground belongs to the state. You'd only get a few hundred yuan as a reward, and I'm not doing a losing business." Gao Xi didn't want Dong Chen to keep asking, so he made up a lie. He could explain it later.
"I've heard that your province has many ancient tombs, and many people have found good things while digging. I didn't expect it to be your turn this time. Hey, old classmate, when you get rich, don't forget to help your old classmate."
"Sure, keep pretending. Your family has so much money, that's why your dad sent you abroad to study." Gao Xi said irritably.
"Hehe, you're right. But old classmate, you've really turned a corner. I remember when we were in school, you never went out for meals because you didn't have money. We felt bad inviting you. If this works out, will you treat everyone to a good meal?" Dong Chen laughed.
"That's not a problem. But why are you up so late? If my geography is correct, it should be night in the U.S. right now?" Gao Xi asked with a smile.
"Sleep? I just fixed a car, I can't sleep at all."
