Chapter 2: Catching Bugs

Thinking of this, Li Zixi refrained from blurting out a swear. If she hadn’t learned anything else from foreign countries in recent years, she had at least learned a few curse words.

Li Zixi’s eyes were almost blinded and she didn’t even know which lines were her part. Fortunately, Chen Pingping finally saw her troubles and came over to show her.

“Xixi, here, from this line to the end are your parts.”

Li Zixi looked carefully at the parts pointed out by Chen Pingping. Although there was a lot of writing, she actually only had a few lines and actions. So, she didn’t understand, how could such a simple cannon-fodder character be screwed up by her predecessor?

However, for the sake of being careful, she decided to learn the lines. From this single page, she only knew that she was a maid besides a noble lady but could not see what kind of drama she was in.

Just thinking about the opening lines, she remembered that she didn’t know anything about the person whose body she was in. She had to whisper to her assistant, “Tell me what this drama is about. I am a little dizzy and I can’t think of it.”

Chen Pingping watching Li Zixi taking the initiative to mention filming didn’t dare to show her happiness. She nodded excitedly and said, “Okay, Xixi. This drama is mainly about the love story of Nian Guifei and Yongzheng Emperor. With her own beauty and means, she won the favor of the four brothers. From the Houzhain of Prince Yong’s House, he defeated Qianlong Emperor’s mother and Yongzheng Emperor’s original match, Fu Jin, step by step, and finally became the empress. Her son who was born also became the emperor.”

Having said that, Chen Pingping paused, glanced at Li Zixi, and then said, “You play one of the little maidservants in the harem. You used a type of incense to kill the child in the belly of the empress and got found out. You are the one who was deemed guilty for doing all the bad things.”

When can such an outrageous drama adaptation be broadcasted? Can this story really pass? History has been adapted so much, is this really okay?

She weakly asked her own question, “Nian Guifei became the queen? Isn’t this tampering with history? Has the drama been reviewed?”

Chen Pingping looked at her with a very surprised look as if she didn’t quite understand why the focus of Zixi’s attention was on this point.

After asking, Li Zixi discovered that this was an odd question to ask. She quickly adapted and added, “I’m just afraid that if the plot is unsuccessful then wouldn’t I have acted in vain? If this show will sooner or later be killed and I’m still acting, wouldn’t it be better to leave the production early?”

Sure enough, as soon as her voice fell, Chen Pingping started to get nervous and thought that her boss woke up and had changed her temper. The result was the same as always. She was still not satisfied with the role she picked up this time.

“Xixi, don’t. If you really quit, Wang Jie will really destroy me. This drama is directed by Director Shen so it must have been reviewed. This opportunity is really rare even if there are only a few parts. Director Shen’s productions have always been difficult to enter. Wang Jie put in a lot of effort to tuck you in. If you don’t act, there is a whole group of people waiting to be here.”

Hearing this kind of background, Li Zixi was deeply puzzled by her environment. Was she in the future? Who is Director Shen? He sounded like a big director, but why was she not impressed at all? Was this really her current era?

She glanced at the person next to her and resisted the urge to roll her eyes, “Relax, I won’t quit. By the way, can you give me my cell phone?”

Seeing that Li Zizi wouldn’t quit, Chen Pingping immediately took out the phone from her bag.

Li Zixi took the phone and looked at it back and forth, but fortunately, it was unlocked with her fingerprint, otherwise it would have been embarrassing. The time showed May 9, 2017, the same time as the world where she traversed. This was strange. Obviously, it was the same time but why were so many things strange?

The rules were strange, the story was strange, and the director was strange. Thinking of this, she opened the browser and searched for “Director Shen.” The top one was “Shen Guoxing.” She was sure that she had never heard of this name. She had been in Hengdian for almost 20 years. Even in the years where she went to study abroad, she would go to the film and television city during the holidays. She had absolutely never heard of this name.

She frowned and casually asked, “What is the name of the show?”

She didn’t know why Xixi asked again, but Chen Pingping honestly replied, “The Biography of Nian Guifei.”

Listening as Chen Pingping replied, Li Zixi also entered Shen Guoxing and The Biography of Nian Guifei into the search box. Sure enough, it was this person and this drama. However, after reading through the launching ceremonies, Reuters photos, and the introduction in Baidu, she didn’t know anyone!

Moreover, she also saw that they were filming in Hengzhou now. Obviously it was Hengdian, but why is it called Hengzhou?

She moved her fingers and searched for the flight she was on, but she didn’t get any information at all.

At this time, she felt an unprecedented panic. What kind of world was this? For sure, this was a modern world. She felt that everything around her was familiar, but people were strange. It was summed up in this one sentence: things are both right and wrong.

She closed her eyes, locked the phone, and handed it to Chen Pingping next to her. Pretending to be calm, she continues to look at the script in hand. In her head, her mind was running fast. Since I’m in Hengdian, I must go to my house after filming. She needed to see if there was another Li Zixi and her parents.

At this time, a staff member came and shouted, “The actor who played the maidservant? The director asked me to come and see if you woke up. If you’ve awakened, hurry up and finish your scene. As a small fry, you can’t let the protagonist wait for you.”

Chen Pingping first looked at the expressionless Li Zixi and then said to the staff member with a smiling face, “Our family’s Xixi just woke up, she’ll come immediately. We’re coming now.”

The staff member glanced at them and said, “Don’t be a bother, please hurry.”

When the staff member left, Chen Pingping pulled Li Zixi’s sleeve nervously and said, “Xixi, shall we go?”

Li Zixi nodded lightly.

After going out, Li Zixi found that she was indeed in the Hengdian Film and Television City and was in the set dedicated to shooting imperial dramas.

When Chen Pingping lead her to the studio, she discovered that the actors were in the middle of their roles. The director’s unique “lion roar” could be heard from far away. Li Zixi calmly thought that this kind of director was a very strict person and it was no wonder that he had won so many awards.

They were told that it was Li Zixi’s turn after the next scene was finished. Chen Pingping was so scared that she quickly looked at Li Zixi’s face. Seeing that Li Zixi was calm, she also felt relieved. She was really afraid of this ancestor who could lose her temper at any time and say no to acting.

“Xixi, let’s take a rest next to each other. I don’t know how long you have to wait.”

Li Zixi shook her head and said, “No, just wait here, let’s watch and learn from how others act.”

After spearking, there was a slightly sarcastic voice next to her, “Oh this wooden pimple that was scolded by the director suddenly opened up, but I don’t know if she’ll cry and faint after a while?”

After she finished, she laughed and the people next to her laughed softly.

Li Zixi looked at the woman wearing the same clothes as her and frowned slightly, who is this person?

The girl next to her frowned when she saw Li Zixi and was a little scared. She pulled Chen Yan’s arm and said, “Chen Yan, forget it. Don’t mess with this hot-tempered woman. In case of some situation, the director would blame us.”

When the girl named Chen Yan heard this, she nodded in agreement and said, “You’re right, you can’t care about this kind of lunatic. However, I just don’t understand how someone obviously with no acting skills can get into this drama. Everyone is a student of the Film Academy. Why is she acting superior to others?” After she finished speaking, she glared at Li Zixi before turning away.

Chen Pingping couldn’t stand it and wanted to say a few words but was pulled back by Li Zixi. There are so many people on set. If you want to take the actor’s path in the future, you must not quarrel with others before the eyes of everyone. Her reputation was bad enough, it could not get worse.

If you are popular and you quarrel with others, fans may still be happy and say that you are popular and well-behaved. However, if you are not popular, it will be photographed and posted on the Internet and others will say that you have a bad temper and love to provoke right and wrong.

The previous things were done before her and she could not control that nor could she recover them. However, from now on, it is Li Zixi who is using this body. Therefore, the rules of life would also be Li Zixi’s.

Chen Yan saw Chen Pingping wanted to move forward and was even more angry, she quipped, “Only having a few maidservant lines, you’re not a star, but even have an assistant. You can really keep up with appearances.”

Next to Chen Yan, a man looked at the scene and pulled her arm, giving her a wink. Chen Yan looked around, pretending to be shy, lowered her head and walked away. Before leaving, she glared fiercely at Li Zixi.

During the whole process, Li Zixi said nothing.

Chen Pingping did not trust Chen Yan, “Xixi…”

Li Zixi interrupted, “I’m fine. I assure you I can deal with this person, just acting fiercely is enough.”

The environment was still unclear. She is an unknown character, this matter, she would endure for today! Moreover, a gentleman’s revenge, waiting even ten years would not be too late.

Pic note: So, Zixi is acting in a drama with Yongzheng emperor, so hence the Qing Dynasty maids. I guess Zixi is the playing someone basically on the right (in the green). Tbh I googled Nian Guifei/Consort and didn’t get anything. Yongzheng Emperor was succeeded by Qianlong Emperor (who apparently is getting ousted here by Nian Guide I’d son). Anyway, sorry to all history buffs out there…

Don’t drop that dun-dun-dun…

Finally, we get to be on set and our first villain. She’ll be quick work. Anyone else think Zixi’s assistant is low-key annoying? How traumatized must she be from the original Zixi? LMAO.

Anyway, it’s like 1 AM here and I have work in like a couple of hours. I saw someone left a 4 star rating on novelupdates 🙂 hopefully more people will enjoy this novel toooooo.

For now, I think I’ll be updating 1-2 times a week depending on my finals schedules and work.
