The enthusiastic applause from the audience was prolonged and unceasing. The few professors who had spoken earlier did not manage to catch Zheng Rongxuan's attention. Just as he was about to leave the stage, Jeon Ji-hyun and Lin Zhendong from Taiwan, China, walked up and held him back.
"Brother, you're really amazing. How can you speak so many languages? Do you really know all of them, or did you learn just a few phrases for this song?" Lin Zhendong was stunned, never imagining that he would meet a compatriot with such extraordinary language skills. Indeed, in his mind, this was beyond incredible; it was purely at a godly level.
Zheng Rongxuan smiled and shook his head. "Not really, I only know a few. Besides, these languages aren't too difficult to learn, and learning is a very enjoyable thing." Zheng Rongxuan boasted with a hint of self-satisfaction.
Some of the students in the audience were speechless. There really were people who found learning enjoyable. Perhaps it was precisely because of this mindset that he had learned so many languages.
"Your song is truly amazing. How did you come up with the idea to write a theme song for a book? And what is your book about?" On the other side, Jeon Ji-hyun was equally excited and somewhat incoherent. Today, Zheng Rongxuan had given her a tremendous shock. She had never known that Dongguk University had such a powerful presence. As a student nearing graduation, she had thought that the biggest star of the day would be An Ji-hyun, but to her surprise, the biggest surprise of the night was Zheng Rongxuan from China.
At this moment, she had a strong interest in Zheng Rongxuan and wanted to know everything about him—his daily life, his creative process, and how he had learned so many languages. After all, even English, which she had started learning in elementary school, was not very proficient, and she could only勉强 manage to communicate fluently with foreigners. Yet, Zheng Rongxuan could create songs in several foreign languages, and he was only 18 years old.
Zheng Rongxuan smiled, shrugged, and tilted his head as he looked at the tall and beautiful Jeon Ji-hyun. "Senior, when I first saw you on campus, this story suddenly flashed in my mind, so I wrote it down. As for the song, I was inspired while writing the book and created it."
"You mean the story is based on me? But you don't seem to know me very well. Haven't you only been in Korea for a few months?" Jeon Ji-hyun's beautiful eyes widened in surprise. It was hard to believe that a boy, and a foreign boy at that, would write a book just from a casual glance, and even write such a beautiful and moving theme song for it.
"I wouldn't say it's entirely based on you. I just thought you would be a great choice for the lead role. I don't really know you well, but for some reason, it just came to me."
"Alright, I'm really looking forward to your book. I'll definitely buy a copy next month. Professor Kim has something to say, Professor Kim, please go ahead!" Jeon Ji-hyun smiled and bowed to Professor Kim, who had stood up.
Taking the microphone from a staff member, Professor Kim, still somewhat excited, said, "Zheng Rongxuan, you have such great musical talent. You should really come to the music department for systematic training. As long as you're willing, you don't need to worry about anything else."
"Absolutely not, Zheng Rongxuan is our computer science department's top student. I won't let him go, no matter what. No other department can have him." Before Professor Kim could finish, the dean of the engineering college, an old man surnamed Park, jumped up and trembled. Although Professor Kim had a high status at Dongguk University, so did he, as both were vice presidents.
Professor Kim glared at Dean Park, about to say something, but then heard Zheng Rongxuan say, "Thank you, Professor Kim, for your kind words. But music creation is just my hobby. I love computers the most, so I'm sorry, but I have no intention of changing departments."
Hearing Zheng Rongxuan's words, the music department's teachers and professors all shook their heads in regret. Such a talented seed, such great potential, to be wasted in the computer science department was a crime, a murder.
On the other side, Dean Park's mouth nearly split to his ears. He looked at the music department with a smug expression and then turned to the stage and shouted, "Good job, Zheng Rongxuan! You should stick to your passion and not be distracted by anything else. I believe that if you keep going, you will achieve great things in the field of computers."
There was competition between the various departments of Dongguk University. In recent years, the rise of the music department and the drama and film department had posed a threat to the other departments, directly leading to more and more of the university's funds and resources being taken by them. If this continued, would the other departments even be able to develop?
Therefore, the other departments had long been unhappy with them. While Jiang Yan was still manageable, when Dean Park heard from the department's teachers and professors that Zheng Rongxuan was a top computer science student, with a solid foundation and comprehensive knowledge, even surpassing many third and fourth-year students, how could he let him be poached by another department, especially his arch-rival, the music department?
"Thank you, Dean Park! There are still many other students to perform, so I won't waste any more time, Senior!" After thanking him, Zheng Rongxuan smiled at Jeon Ji-hyun and bowed again before leaving the stage amidst another round of enthusiastic applause.
Zheng Rongxuan had left, but the audience's hearts seemed to have been taken away. The performances that followed hardly received much applause, and even when they did, it was sparse. Zheng Rongxuan's strong presence had directly affected their performances, and some students even booed, with a few female students crying on stage.
Zheng Rongxuan was unaware of this. After leaving the stage, he was immediately surrounded by people backstage, especially by his fellow Chinese students, who bombarded him with questions.
After finally managing to calm the students, Zheng Rongxuan, feeling as exhausted as if he had just fought a battle, was about to leave when he was quickly surrounded by a dozen talent scouts. Zheng Rongxuan was speechless. Which eye did you see that I want to develop in the music industry?
"I'm very sorry, everyone. I just want to focus on my studies and creative work. I have no intention of entering the entertainment industry for now. So, please go back. Of course, if you are interested in my work, I hope we can collaborate in the future. Now, please step aside, I need to go back and rest. I need to write down today's inspiration."
After getting rid of the annoying talent scouts, Zheng Rongxuan, fearing any further incidents, hurriedly slipped away. Unbeknownst to him, the music department's professors, who were still determined, found him, followed by Dean Park leading the computer science department and the foreign language department, who had joined the talent hunt.
