Chapter 8: Everyone Wants a Piece

The sky gradually darkened, and Yun Yi simmered a small pot of vegetable porridge for herself.

The original owner hadn't been eating well these past few days, and there were no other ingredients at home. Besides, with Old Master Chu's funeral just concluded, she didn't want to make too many changes that might arouse suspicion.

Just as she finished serving the porridge, she heard a voice from outside the front door: "Chu Yun Yi, are you home?"

Yun Yi found the voice familiar but couldn't place it.

The young man standing outside the gate, growing impatient as the door remained closed, was about to knock again when it finally opened.

With the original owner's memories, Yun Yi recognized Qin Jianghui standing at the door with a cold expression: "It's so late, why are you here?"

Qin Jianghui was still getting used to not hearing "Brother Jianghui": "My grandfather sent me to pass on a message, asking you to come to our house tomorrow."

Yun Yi thought to herself that even without the Qin family's invitation, she would have gone. However, looking at Qin Jianghui's expression, she knew his mother had succeeded in her schemes.

Without further pleasantries, Yun Yi nodded lightly: "I understand."

Qin Jianghui wanted to say more, but Yun Yi didn't give him the chance: "We just had a funeral, so it's not appropriate to invite you in. If there's nothing else, you can go back."

Qin Jianghui's temper flared, his face turning sour: "I've delivered the message, don't forget it."

With that, he turned and left.

Yun Yi sneered, thinking to herself: If it weren't for Old Master Qin insisting on this engagement back then, how could they have the nerve to look down on the original owner? They really think they're something.

After finishing her meal and cleaning up, Yun Yi walked around the yard to digest her food while thinking about what to do next.

She practiced a set of boxing moves in the yard, then, seeing it was about time, changed her clothes and prepared to take care of some business.

She didn't leave through the front door but climbed over the wall using a ladder. When she returned, she would climb a tree to get over the fence, making less noise.

Avoiding people, she reached the large courtyard in front and used her spatial ability to enter the Sun family's home directly.

Thinking about what the original owner had heard from Sun Ruiming, she felt nothing but disdain. This family was truly devious.

Sun Ruiming actually planned to set a trap for the original owner, making her feel ashamed so she would be at their mercy in the future.

Harming an innocent girl who was devoted to her, Yun Yi thought about what would have happened if he succeeded. Since he dared to think such thoughts, she would make him experience the consequences of being universally condemned, using his own methods against him—she was most skilled at this.

At that moment, she heard someone inside the house say: "Third Son, don't run around these few days. Visit the Chu family more often to avoid being outmaneuvered."

A carefree voice replied: "Dad, don't worry. You know how Chu Yun Yi treats me.

Even when Old Master Chu was alive, he couldn't stop me. Now, I say what goes. Don't worry, I have it under control."

The eldest son's wife then said: "Third Son, with Old Master Chu gone, many people in our area are eyeing his granddaughter. Don't be careless, or someone might steal her away."

Hearing this, Sun Ruiming said smugly: "She's going to the countryside in a few days. Even if someone tries, it will be in vain."

Another voice then asked: "Third Son, since Chu Yun Yi is going to the countryside, her house will be empty. Can you ask her to let us live there?"

As soon as she said this, everyone in the room looked at Sun Ruiming.
