Chapter 10

The cold air and low pressure in the living room continued, but at least the two culprits did not seem to intend to continue their fight.

Hao Ren sighed and picked up the teapot that had frozen into a solid ice lump (and had even cracked), then looked at the broken coffee table, feeling that life was mostly like this: nine out of ten things in life are unsatisfactory, and the remaining one or two are even more unsatisfactory...

But no matter what, it seemed that Vivi and Lily had finally believed each other’s explanations. Well, perhaps not entirely, but at least they agreed to stop fighting for the time being—provided that the other did not show any "tell-tale signs," they would temporarily consider each other neutral parties.

This was the result of a whole hour of earnest persuasion, an hour of presenting facts, reasoning, and explaining the greater good. Hao Ren, emboldened by his authority as the landlord (if he had any), barely managed to get the two women to patiently listen to each other’s explanations and prove their innocence in their own ways: Lily proved she had not coerced the landlord by calling "roll" to testify and showing Vivi her hands, indicating that there was no blood on them, so she had not cursed Hao Ren. Vivi, thinking Lily was quite silly, decided to believe her; Vivi, to prove she could control her vampiric urges, had Hao Ren rummage in the fridge for a box of duck blood tofu...

To be honest, Hao Ren thought Vivi’s method of proof was unreliable, but surprisingly, Lily actually believed it... Could you believe that this silly girl actually believed it?

After everything had temporarily calmed down, Hao Ren finally had the chance to ask Vivi what she had come for this morning, as it was clear that Vivi had been surprised when she first saw him, so she probably wasn’t there just to look for someone.

Vivi nodded and pulled out a colorful piece of paper from her small bag: "I came here following this address. I’m looking for a place to stay."

Lily, who was kneeling in front of the broken coffee table in repentance, suddenly transformed into her wolf form, her sharp ears perking up immediately: she had a strong, bad feeling!

Hao Ren was also taken aback. When he took the paper, he realized it was cut from a newspaper, and it was the rental ad he had posted a few days ago! How could it be that after not getting any takers for half a year, business suddenly started coming in now?

But why were the people coming to rent the place not normal!

"Um... the address is correct," Hao Ren’s expression was strange, unsure where his life had gone wrong. He looked Vivi up and down, "You’re here to rent a place?"

"Yes," Vivi nodded repeatedly.

Hao Ren asked bluntly, "Why specifically here..."

He meant why such abnormal events always happened to him, but Vivi, the vampire girl, misunderstood and blinked: "Because it’s cheap here. I don’t have money. After looking for a long time, only here can I afford to stay—really don’t want to live in ruins or graveyards like before."

Hao Ren’s mouth hung open, amazed by the vampire girl’s frankness and living conditions: weren’t vampires supposed to be elegant nobles of the night? How did this one end up like this?

"This place is indeed quite cheap. If you don’t mind the remoteness, you can stay here," Hao Ren nodded after a few seconds of hesitation, a wry smile on his face. After all, more fleas don’t make the itch worse, and with a werewolf already here, his life was unlikely to return to normal in the foreseeable future. One more vampire wouldn’t make much difference, and it would add some color to his life. "But I have to make one thing clear: you can’t cause trouble... of course, I won’t tell anyone about you and Lily, I’m afraid you might kill me to silence me."

Speaking of killing to silence, Hao Ren wasn’t really worried: these two women clearly weren’t like the legends. Regardless of whether they were outliers in their respective groups, they seemed quite safe here.

But just as Hao Ren and Vivi were almost settled, Lily suddenly slammed the table and stood up: "Wait a minute! This winged rat is also going to stay here? Under the same roof as me?" Look at how slow she was.

With a loud crack, the coffee table, which already had a bunch of cracks, finally gave out.

"Do you think I want to live with a beast?!" Vivi was also angry, but she remembered the truce and didn’t release any more cold air, "If I weren’t almost broke, who would come here!"

Hao Ren suddenly felt that perhaps rejecting Vivi was the right thing to do: letting a werewolf and a vampire live under the same roof was clearly asking for trouble, and their tempers didn’t seem like they would really stick to the truce! Besides, he didn’t need the rent...

But he had already nodded, and it seemed inappropriate to suddenly change his mind, so he could only try to calm the unhappy Lily: "It’s fine, it’s fine. I don’t think Vivi is a bad person, and I’ve already agreed... let her stay here for now... hey, wait a minute! I’m the landlord, this is my home! Why am I consulting you?"

Hao Ren finally remembered this point: this was his own place, when did these two women start acting like the owners?

He could only attribute it to the fact that these two powerful women had an unusually strong presence, and after a series of chaotic events, his already not-so-outstanding brain was a bit confused.

Lily also laughed awkwardly, this unusually easy-going werewolf girl nodded with her shoulders hunched: "You decide, but I still don’t like this winged one."

"That’s better," Hao Ren crossed his arms and nodded, planning how to make these two abnormal new tenants get along in the future... getting along was impossible, so he just needed to try to prevent them from destroying the house. He was already a bit afraid of this chaotic life, and if possible, he really wanted to ask the two powerful women to leave right now, but there were two problems: first, these two superwomen were not to be offended, although they seemed easy-going, rashly asking them to leave without a good reason could cause problems, and Hao Ren didn’t dare take that risk; second, Hao Ren didn’t think he could beat either of the two superwomen, and if his words didn’t work, he would be in a bind, and he would be in a difficult position.

In summary, these two reasons could be summed up as one: how could a human negotiate with two monster women!

But no matter how conflicted he was, he still wanted to do his best to maintain his "normal" life, which was clearly coming to an end. Just as he was deep in thought, a nearly earth-shattering exclamation suddenly came from the side.

"Ah! My wallet!"

Vivi almost jumped off the sofa. This vampire girl usually managed to maintain a bit of elegance, but now that elegance was completely gone: her wallet was missing.

"It must have been last night... I was dazed from being hit by this idiot, and I don’t know where my wallet ended up!" Vivi searched her body and her small bag for a long time, then looked at Lily with a mix of despair and anger, "You stupid dog! That was my last bit of living expenses! You pay me back!"

Lily’s face was a bit embarrassed, but she turned away: "If you’re not capable, don’t blame others. Not having money to rent a place is just as well; I don’t have to look at your stupid face anymore."

But after a moment, she turned back: "Why don’t you check around the door and the nearby streets? Maybe you dropped it on the way."

This proved that this silly werewolf actually had a surprisingly good heart.

"I flew a long way last night to find a place with bright moonlight to recover my strength," Vivi said with a sad face, "I don’t know where I dropped it... oh, my last bit of living expenses, I saved for so long... I’ve lost money four times this month, and this is the last bit!"

Hao Ren’s eyebrows twitched: how did this vampire end up in such a sorry state?! What about the noble of the night?

But soon he realized another good thing: he didn’t have to worry about a werewolf vs. vampire battle in the future. Now he had a good reason to ask Vivi to leave.

Maintaining peace was the only way to go!
