Hao Ren didn't know what kind of chaotic scene the group of paranormal enthusiasts was in, but he could roughly guess from the strange equipment they had. Vivian gave a straightforward evaluation: "Over there? It's basically a bunch of charlatans having a meeting. Only Nangong and that monk have something real."
Lily was on the ground, sniffing left and right. After a dozen seconds, she lifted her head: "Someone has been here."
"Recently, the old castle has attracted so many people. It's normal for anyone to have been here," Hao Ren didn't pay much attention, just carefully walking towards the small chapel. "The sound coming from there is creepy. Vivian, are you sure there's no problem?"
"No problem, the aura of the undead is still suppressed underground," Vivian released a bit of her power, her eyes glowing red in the darkness. "Listen, the wind seems to have weakened."
Hao Ren swallowed, the wind and strange howls from the direction of the small chapel were indeed gradually weakening, but this had already created an unsettling atmosphere. He couldn't sense the aura of the undead—this place already seemed full of ghosts to him.
The wooden door of the small chapel was completely rotten, but a pile of fallen stone slabs blocked the entrance. Hao Ren cautiously approached, finding a gap in the pile of stones and peering through it. Inside the stone house, it was pitch black. The intermittent wind and the cacophony of human shouts and horse neighs were indeed coming from inside the stone house. Since there were many cracks around the stone house, the strange sounds could spread without much obstruction, no wonder they could be heard throughout the castle.
Hao Ren wet his finger and carefully inserted it into the gap in the stone pile, nodding professionally: "Hmm, no wind."
"Of course not. If there was wind, it would have blown sand in your face when you leaned in to look," Vivian pushed Hao Ren aside and beckoned to Lily, "Big dog, come over and move this pile of stuff."
Hao Ren suddenly felt uneasy: "Hey, wait a moment. Is this disrespectful to the dead?"
"What dead? I've fought real zombies before, and the Pharaoh's guards were nothing special. Big dog, go!"
"Try calling me 'big dog' again! See if I can't bite you four times in a second!" Lily, unable to tolerate the increasingly rude vampire, jumped up and protested loudly. However, after the protest, she obediently got to work: she was the strongest here, and moving this pile of stones was a job only she could do.
As Lily threw the first large stone slab to the side, the strange sounds from the small chapel suddenly stopped.
"No more noise!" Hao Ren called out, "Hey, I think I heard something inside rustle. Did you hear it?"
Vivian tilted her head, listening to the small chapel. She waved to Lily, "Ignore it, keep moving."
"Hey—shoo!" Lily bent down and picked up a large stone block that looked like it weighed at least half a ton. She threw it several meters away without even breaking a sweat, handling it as easily as if it were a foam model. Hao Ren kept a distance of more than two meters from the powerful werewolf, afraid that she might accidentally hit him while throwing the stones. He marveled, "If only I had such strength."
"Muscles, that's all," Vivian's eyes twitched as she watched Lily move the huge stones, but she still put on a tough front, "True power comes from wisdom. No matter how strong you are, can you match my blood magic? I can make her lie with just a curse..."
Lily turned around with a stone slab nearly a meter wide: "Hehe, go on."
Hao Ren, standing next to Vivian, quickly jumped back a meter: "Hey, don't joke like that! There's still a mortal here, you know. If you slip, I'll be flattened—wait until we find a place with no one around to play."
Lily snorted and turned back to moving the stones. The pile blocking the entrance to the small chapel was soon mostly cleared. With the last large stone slab kicked aside by the werewolf girl, the dark entrance to the small chapel was fully exposed to the three of them.
"Landlord, my shoes are broken." Lily pointed to her feet. Hao Ren saw that the white sports shoes had a huge tear at the front, and her five white, jade-like toes were wiggling in the tear. Everyone remembers that the last stone slab was kicked aside by this girl, but in other books, this detail wouldn't be mentioned...
"Uh, I'll buy you new ones when we get back. This is considered work damage." Hao Ren wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, thinking how everything always turned out so badly for him. Then he stepped towards the dark small chapel, wanting to see what was inside.
To be honest, Hao Ren was still a bit nervous. Any normal person, no matter how brave, wouldn't rashly enter a sealed stone room that had been "haunted" just a few minutes ago. But with Vivian, the vampire who could sense the undead, ensuring safety, and Lily, the top-notch fighter, guarding him, he forced himself to be brave—after all, he had some pride as a man. If he showed any cowardice now, he feared the two superwomen beside him would look down on him.
Although the entrance to the small chapel was blocked by fallen stones, it was in a state of being open on all sides due to cracks and collapses. When Hao Ren entered, he didn't smell any decay, only the dust from Lily's work. Vivian frowned, and a cool breeze wrapped around her, dispersing the dust around the three of them. Her every move exuded the elegance of a vampire, making Lily look at her sideways: "Picky—still worrying about hygiene at a time like this?"
The chapel was empty, with all the original furniture long gone. The uneven floor was littered with scattered stone fragments. The small chapel had a typical European classical castle style, with narrow, high windows. Now, those windows were just long, empty holes, through which the moonlight filtered in, making everything look even more eerie.
"The moon is out again..." Lily looked up at the brightest window hole, "Landlord, I want to howl..."
Hao Ren: "..."
What a pain, this idiot has such bad habits!
Thanks to his newly acquired "superpowers," Hao Ren could see everything in the small chapel. However, the stone house was completely clear, and he found nothing special. There were no floating ghost lights, no ancient knights swaying, and no black magic books lying on the ground, glowing and obviously up to no good. The strange sounds had already stopped before he entered, and now the small chapel looked like an ordinary abandoned house.
But Lily sniffed the ground: "Landlord, there's the smell of a living person here."
Vivian walked to one corner of the small chapel, waved her hand, and a blood-red mist shot towards a small stone slab. A loud, intense corrosion sound followed, and the hard stone was instantly corroded into ash by the blood-red mist, revealing a small hole underneath: "He ran from here, the one playing ghost."
"Person? You mean the ghost here is a human? You knew this all along?" Hao Ren looked at Vivian in surprise, "Why didn't you say anything earlier?"
"I sensed there was a living person here. I wanted to see what he was doing, but it turned out he was just playing ghost," Vivian shrugged, "Lily started moving the stones, and he ran away—what a shame, that 'big dog' claims to have sharp senses, yet she didn't notice a human running away right under her nose."
Lily stubbornly defended herself: "I was focused on moving the stones! I didn't notice!"
Hao Ren ignored the two women's daily bickering and went to the dark hole: "We're not going down, are we?"
"If you want to wait up here, that's fine," Vivian looked at the hole, her expression indifferent, "Although I feel it's just an ordinary person, the situation down there is unknown, and there might be danger."
Vivian's words made Hao Ren's temper flare up: he was a man who aspired to become a nanny king, and he might have to take care of all sorts of strange tenants in the future. How could he be scared by a human who was just playing ghost in an old castle!
He rolled up his sleeves and jumped into the pit: "Don't stop me, I'll go first... Holy crap!"
