Chapter 84

The magical trajectory of life, the wondrous way of development, Hao Ren felt that he had encountered something magical recently, from the real world to the Dream Plane, nothing had gone according to the normal script.
Now he was riding a nearly man-high black giant wolf, galloping across a mysterious vast prairie. Above his head were two bright moons and a foreign, brilliant Milky Way. In the distance was a horizon that did not belong to Earth, and unknown alien grasses swept past him. The night wind blew, the sky and earth were vast, and all of this gave a sense of vastness and mystery. Riding the wolf across the prairie, Hao Ren felt that this was at least a dozen plus signs in coolness.
It would be even better if he wasn't wearing pajamas...
The cold wind fiercely blew in his face. If it were his old body, he would probably have been blown into a daze, or even half-frozen. But now he was different; he wasn't a superman, but at least he was enhanced. The low temperature wasn't much of a problem for him. He subconsciously tightened his clothes with one free hand, while the other hand gripped the black, stiff fur on the back of the wolf's neck, and shouted against the wind, "Hey... how big is this prairie?"
"Very big, very big!" The wolf king's voice was equally loud. "I don't know how you humans measure it, but my wolf pack and I ran for seven days and seven nights without seeing the edge of the prairie! I've heard that there are human settlements outside the prairie, but they don't come here much."
"This world... I mean, what are the human kingdoms you know like?" Hao Ren perked up at the mention of "human kingdoms." The appearance of another human civilization in the Dream Plane seemed quite incredible to him. He wanted to know what the humans in this world were like. "Have you been there? Do you know the way?"
"I haven't, it's too dangerous," the wolf king slowed down a bit, seemingly to make it easier to speak. "You humans are too cunning, and you kill and eat everything! You even ate the earth dragons to extinction. I'm not going to be meat! By the way, aren't you a human? Why are you asking about these things?"
"I came from another direction," Hao Ren bluffed, "the world is vast!"
The wolf king didn't say anything, apparently accepting this explanation. Hao Ren felt a bit sentimental: these talking giant beasts, though quite intelligent, didn't have as many tricks as humans. The wolf king seemed to never consider things like conspiracy and deceit, or perhaps it just didn't bother with such things. In its worldview, anything that didn't affect its meat consumption was irrelevant, including where this "two-legged animal" came from and what secrets it had. The wolf king asked casually and forgot about it immediately.
These strange giant beasts were quite straightforward and carefree. Despite just having a fight with them, once they confirmed that Hao Ren couldn't be food and that he was stronger than them, the wolf pack seemed to forget the fight immediately. Now, the wolf king even let Hao Ren ride on its back—though it didn't look very happy, partly out of fear of Hao Ren's iron fists. This already showed how straightforward these creatures were: as long as it couldn't be eaten, it shouldn't be provoked; as long as it couldn't be beaten, it should be obedient. These were their two principles.
Although it felt a bit unprincipled, Hao Ren had already met a more embarrassing wolf named Lily, so he could accept this fact and thought the wolf king was quite... cute.
As the human dwellings came into view, and they were just a few minutes away, Hao Ren suddenly remembered something: "By the way, I met a pack of wolves here a few days ago. Were they not part of your group?"
"You were here a few days ago?" The wolf king was surprised. "I haven't seen you. My wolf pack and I have always lived around here, but you are the only human we've seen in the past thirty-five days and nights."
These wolves had a concept of time and dates, and they knew that humans had methods like years and months to record dates, but they found these methods awkward. They preferred to record time by the number of days and nights. After all, the wolf pack didn't need to consider seasonal farming or historical inheritance; they just needed to know when winter would come. This method of recording days and nights was sufficient for them.
"You haven't seen me?" Hao Ren felt that such a straightforward creature wouldn't lie. "So there are other wolf packs here?"
"A few small wandering groups, their territories overlap with ours, and there are some areas we can't fully manage, so some ignorant ones occasionally run around," the wolf king's voice sounded a bit dissatisfied. "They are stupid and can't even think, weaker than my pack, so they can only be my vassals—unfortunately, they are not very obedient vassals."
The wolf king shook its head, "When they are extremely hungry, they even come to my territory to steal food, and I can only communicate with them through primitive howls. It's strange, we are all wolves, but why are they so stupid?"
Hao Ren listened carefully, not saying anything, but silently noted this peculiar situation in his mind.
The Dream Plane still had many unsolved mysteries, but now he knew that there were two types of wolves here: one that could speak and was as intelligent as humans, and one that seemed to be a primitive wild animal—both types looked the same externally.
Why was this? Hao Ren didn't think this was a normal evolutionary result, but considering that this place was a strange space called the Dream Plane, perhaps nothing should be too surprising.
Moreover, there were traces of human activity on the prairie, and it was said that there were huge human kingdoms outside the prairie (the wolf king called them human "settlements"). This strange place... how many more mysteries were waiting to be revealed?
The wolf king kept its promise and delivered Hao Ren to the small houses.
"You've arrived. Now I need to lead my wolf pack away," the wolf king put Hao Ren down and stretched its limbs. "It's uncomfortable, I've never carried such a heavy thing before. If I could beat you, I would make you carry me the same distance."
"Thanks," Hao Ren scratched his head, finding the wolf king increasingly interesting. "Maybe we'll meet again. I'll be wandering around here for a while, and if you need any help, just let me know."
The wolf king was indeed very straightforward. Hearing this, it nodded immediately and pointed to a few of its subordinates with bloodied mouths: "Yes, a few of my subordinates have lost their teeth. They won't be able to eat and will starve to death, but our pack won't abandon our companions. I need to assign a few wolves to prepare food for them. Can you help solve this problem?"
Hao Ren hadn't expected to see the straightforward side of the black wolf so quickly. He thought for a moment, sweating, and touched the data terminal: "Can you fix teeth?"
"Hehe, I'm just a PDA, not a magical cat!" the data terminal replied.
"Alright, I know a vet..." Hao Ren wiped the sweat from his forehead. "And she would be more than happy to treat you. If I can bring her here... I mean, bring her over, I'll make sure she finds a way to fix their teeth."
"Alright, human, I remember your promise," the wolf king nodded. "Humans don't seem to keep their promises much, so I'll take this as a psychological comfort. Goodbye, I hope we don't fight next time we meet."
The wolf king said this and then led its pack to run off into the distance, disappearing in the vast prairie in an instant.
"Psychological comfort..." Hao Ren was dumbfounded, muttering to himself, "... the most ruthless are the true gentlemen, and the black-hearted king is the honest one. I've seen it all."
The data terminal was surprised, "Wow! You even rhymed?"
Hao Ren casually took the data terminal out of his pocket and let it float beside him, ignoring its protests as he walked toward the small house.
This was where the prairie herders once lived. However, according to Hao Ren's knowledge, nomadic people rarely built fixed houses in one place. They followed the water and grass, usually setting up tents or similar simple structures for easy relocation. But these small houses were different—apparently, the people here had different living habits and their own ways of solving the problems they encountered in life.
When Hao Ren placed his hand on the door of the small house, the wind on the prairie suddenly grew stronger.
