Chapter 8

7 min read1,682 words

It has been three days since Li Lan activated the base. In these 72 hours, Li Lan did not waste a single minute. First, he activated a magnetic energy reactor, then a mineral refinery, and placed the ore extraction well on an iron mine three kilometers away. By nightfall, the mining vehicle, which could be operated either unmanned or manned, had started working.

When the mining vehicle came out, Li Lan almost couldn't keep his mouth from dropping open. Apart from the tracks, the mining vehicle looked very much like a city cleaning vehicle. The device at the front of the vehicle for extracting ore also resembled a cleaning vehicle, and the cargo box at the back was fully enclosed, just like a cleaning vehicle.

If Li Lan hadn't confirmed multiple times that this was indeed a mining vehicle, he would have thought the base had malfunctioned.

Very early the next morning, the mining vehicle brought Li Lan a pleasant surprise. Since the mining vehicle recovers ore every six hours, when Li Lan woke up, the mining vehicle had already successfully delivered a load of ore to the mineral refinery. The base's funds, which had originally been 365, had increased to 1615 by the time it was light.

In other words, one load of iron ore could recover 1250 base funds (in the game, a load of yellow ore is 1250, and this book follows that price). With a recovery every six hours, the vehicle could recover four times a day, equaling a daily income of 5000 base funds.

One mining vehicle could bring in 5000 base funds a day, so what about ten, or a hundred? Just thinking about it made Li Lan so excited that he picked up General and kissed him several times, much to General's confusion.

After checking the remaining power, Li Lan decided to start building a barracks.

Six hours later, at noon the next day, the barracks was successfully built, just as the mining vehicle brought in the second load of the day, adding another 1250 funds to the base. At this point, with three building units, the base had 1865 funds remaining.

Next, Li Lan began the construction of a vehicle factory. Just like in the game, even if the funds were insufficient, construction could still proceed, as long as there were subsequent funds coming in. However, if no funds came in, the construction would stop once the funds were depleted.

However, with the stable income from the mining vehicle, after the 24-hour construction period of the vehicle factory, by noon on the third day, the base not only completed the construction of the vehicle factory but also had 4865 base funds remaining.

Vehicle Factory:

Produces land and air weapon units. Construction cost: 2000 base funds. Occupies 80,000 square meters. Construction time: 24 hours.

Description: Can produce all types of land, air, and defensive weapon units. However, construction and production of weapons consume a large amount of base funds and power. This is a power-hungry unit. To ensure smooth production, please provide sufficient power. Otherwise, it will stop working.

Special Note: Regardless of the number of vehicle factories, only one unit of the same category can be produced at a time. Different categories can be produced simultaneously, but only one unit per category.

Suggestion: If you want to quickly build your own armed forces, if you want a tank to come out every second (though this is exaggerated), please don't hesitate, build more vehicle factories. Having more than two vehicle factories can speed up weapon production, and each additional factory will further increase the production speed.

While waiting, Li Lan gained a good understanding of the term "power-hungry" in the vehicle factory's description. After the vehicle factory was built and the other units in the base resumed normal operation, Li Lan understood the description even more thoroughly.

After the vehicle factory was built, both the wall and the unit icons turned into clickable color icons. The power meter in the base control room turned green, whereas it had been red during the construction of the vehicle factory.

Originally, Li Lan wanted to build another mineral refinery to increase the base's funds, but he had to change his mind and build another magnetic energy reactor instead. He was afraid that even if he had the money, he wouldn't be able to produce a car for transportation.

Outside, the base was bustling again, and Li Lan began his recruitment efforts.

On the unit selection page of the control panel, Li Lan had few options. Specifically, there were only three.

Militia: Basic unit, with some combat skills. There is a small chance that a soldier with leadership abilities will appear. Currently recruitable, cost: 100 base funds.

Specialization: Mastery of basic single-unit weapons.

Choose ability focus: 1. Enhance single-unit capabilities, 2. Knowledge of armored vehicles and tanks, 3. Knowledge of aircraft, 4. Knowledge of ships.

Military Dog: Elite unit, capable of one-hit kills against humanoid enemies. Currently recruitable, cost: 200 base funds.

Specialization: Claws, bite, sense of smell, and insight.

Insight: Can identify non-allied spies. Range: Line of sight.

Engineer: Elite unit, each one is a top engineer. Currently recruitable, cost: 500 base funds.

Specialization: Modification, construction, and repair.

Note: Can modify, construct, maintain, and repair weapon units and building units.

In the unit selection, there were many other icons, but they were all grayed out. From the images, Li Lan recognized familiar icons from the game, such as American soldiers, Chinese soldiers, spies, Navy SEALs, snipers, and Tanya.

One icon made Li Lan a bit uneasy: Crazy Ivan. He also seemed to remember seeing a suicide truck in the vehicle units.

Somalia already gave the world a terrifying impression, being a haven for terrorists. Did he have to become a terrorist himself? This was Li Lan's immediate thought. However, thinking about using these units against countries he disliked, it seemed like a good idea. But why wasn't Yuri, the terrifying uncle, included? (To Li Lan's question, the author responded, "I looked for Uncle Yuri, but he wasn't home and didn't fit the outline, so I arranged for him to appear in the next book.")

Below, Li Lan didn't recognize any of the icons. There were no flight soldiers or time soldiers. However, one icon gave him a sense of familiarity. Although he hadn't played Red Alert 3, he had seen some information. No matter how he looked at it, the icon next to Tanya was Natasha, a hero unit in the Soviet faction of Red Alert 3.

After a cursory look, Li Lan directly clicked on the Militia icon, chose to enhance single-unit capabilities, and selected 10 units.

After confirming the recruitment of 10 Militia, the countdown began. Li Lan then clicked on two Military Dogs. He did not choose to recruit any Engineers.

The time required for the Militia was very short. It took only 100 minutes to complete 10 Militia, which means each Militia took only 10 minutes.

"Assistant, do I need to produce weapons for my soldiers? What do they look like? What skin color?" Li Lan asked, looking at the funds displayed on the screen.

"Yes, each soldier, except for the uniform provided by the barracks, needs to be equipped by the commander. To avoid affecting the sovereignty of third-party countries, the uniform will default to the Somali flag. The soldiers will also look like Somalis."

Fortunately, this was Somalia. The sudden appearance of a few thousand Somalis wouldn't affect anyone. Li Lan was once again grateful to be in Somalia, at least he didn't have to worry about the identity of his soldiers.

Since he had chosen 10 Militia and 2 Military Dogs, the base's funds did not change, but over the next few hours, including the power plant, 2000 funds would be deducted. Since the next recovery from the mining vehicle would be at 6 PM, he only had 2865 funds to use.

Opening the single-unit weapon page, Li Lan could see other icons. Ten pistols, ten AK-47s, ten boxes of pistol ammunition, and ten boxes of rifle ammunition. A pistol costs 20 base funds, an AK-47 costs 50 base funds, and a box of ammunition costs 5 base funds. Since Li Lan had already produced one pistol and three boxes of ammunition, the base funds had a remainder of 65.

After selecting these, the base would have only 2065 funds available for the next six hours.

Li Lan then clicked on a military truck in the vehicle section, spending 500 base funds. With the remaining funds, he clicked on the wall to enclose the main base.

Wall:

Defensive unit. Construction cost: 150 base funds. Construction time: 30 minutes.

Description: Each wall unit is 5 meters high and 2 meters thick by default. The top of the wall has a walkway and barbed wire, which can be electrified. The wall has no shooting holes. It can resist infiltration by single units but is not effective against heavy weapons. After construction, the length of the wall can be chosen between 1 meter and 100 meters. Walls can seamlessly connect when intersecting or joining. Wall units cannot be recycled for funds.

Special Note: With walls, building the Great Wall is no longer a dream.

Usage Restriction: Walls can only protect the commander's large buildings and cannot be built on water.

Suggestion: To enhance the defensive capability of the walls, multiple wall units can be connected horizontally to increase the thickness of the wall.

PS: Yuri fans, don't miss Yuri. I also want Yuri to show his power, but if Yuri appears, it would have to be a superpower story, otherwise, he would be invincible. So, I had to reluctantly put Yuri on hold again.

The past is the past, today is today, and perhaps in the future, Uncle Yuri will appear, and maybe even the time soldiers. However, I must emphasize that this is not a guarantee.

No one knows what will happen in the future, and this book has just begun. Thinking too much is not good.
