Director Sun’s current project was set to be in theaters in summer, and because of the Sixth Young Nobleman’s slight personality change from a frail individual in the beginning to a somewhat cunning person in the end, Shen Shujie’s Weibo following grew by a few thousand fans.
Because of Jiang Haofeng, President Li never really bothered with managing Shen Shujie. He would mass send him various scripts, and if Shujie wanted to audition for a role then he would make necessary arrangements for someone to follow him to the audition. Shen Shujie had neither personal assistant nor manager, so his level of freedom was so high that other actors from the same company felt like he was a little Mr Nobody that had been given up on and had no potential value.
Usually management companies would make use of the “freshness” of news like this, and follow these leads, so a few chat shows had already sent invites to the company. President Li asked him what he thought about this and Shen Shujie thanked him but ultimately refused the invitations. He wanted to make use of his break to do some personal development. In the previous project, his acting skills had improved greatly, so he hoped that he could do even better in his next movie.
Upon reaching home and walking through the whole place once, Jiang Haofeng still didn’t come across anyone. He changed into a fresh set of clothes, and went back to going up and down the stairs, looking through every single room. The butler noticed how he was conspicuously looking around, but still hadn’t opened his mouth to ask anything, so he took the initiative to tell him, “Little Shen is in the back.”
Jiang Haofeng looked at the butler, his reply somewhat stiff, “I’m not looking for him.”
Then, he calmly walked over to the sofa, sat down, picked up the papers and started reading them.
The butler seemed quite unsurprised by this reaction, and was prepared to pour him some tea. Just as he finished preparing the tea, Young Master Jiang had already disappeared.
The backyard of the Jiang Residence was a piece of green land of quite substantial size, with obvious signs of meticulous horticulture, and a narrow path paved from stone slabs.
Shen Shujie was standing in a European-style pavilion nearby, wearing a double-breasted chef’s coat, and the dining table in the pavilion was filled with ingredients for confectioneries and an oven.
Jiang Haofeng noticed how he seemed a little unfocused, and he couldn’t help but feel that he had experienced this moment before, entering the lush green garden, catching sight of a youth with a rosy-red cheeks and a dark head of hair.
When Young Master Jiang had reached the age of 20, he returned home from being abroad. His friends had planned on specially holding a party to celebrate his return and Jiang Haofeng had no issues with this. He had left the country at the age of 15, and apart from two or three friends that he kept in contact with and was still quite close with, he had lost touch with the rest. Young Master Jiang wasn’t against such social activities, after all, in the future, once he had taken over the family business, he would need sharp socialization skills.
When the butler had passed him the plans for the party as well as the catering menu to go through, he had been busy looking at a business magazine. 20-year-old Young Master Jiang didn’t have many hobbies, his first 15 years had been spent completing compulsory education, and the latter five years he had been “gilded” overseas, so he was not really aware of what his friends were currently interested in. A quick glance at the event flow showed him no issues, but when he looked over the menu, his forehead wrinkled, “There are no confectioneries?”
This butler had taken care of him since he was a child, so he knew Haofeng’s preferences, “The confectioneries haven’t been listed yet, Auntie Wang doesn’t do them well, and you don’t like the cooking of the kitchen staff who are coming from the Old Residence to help either. I know of a shop that’s quite reputable, I’ve hired them to do some in-house catering, so when the time comes Young Master can order what you want.”
Satisfied, Young Master Jiang nodded his head, “That’ll do.”
On the day of the party, the atmosphere was literally buzzing with energy. Even if they were or weren’t Jiang Haofeng’s friends, any one who had the remotest connection came to join the party. The Jiang Family’s business was so well-known that being able to have some minor connection was a blessing.
This was the first time Shen Shujie had ever seen such a big expanse of a villa garden. Together with the shop owner, they were busy carrying the ingredients inside, “Elder Brother Wang, is this really someone’s home? It’s so big ah!”
Shop owner Wang saw the look of inexperience on his face and cracked a smile, “It’s the world of the rich ah.”
Shen Shujie’s eyes were swiveling in their sockets, taking in all four corners of the sight before him, “I’d have to sell two lifetimes worth of cakes before I could afford this I guess.”
”Probably.”
They placed the ingredients on the lawn before the European-style pavilion, and as Shop owner Wang was cross-checking everything, he noticed that they had missed one powder sieve. He was already bustling about prepping the ingredients, so he turned to Shen Shujie and said, “We must have left a powder sieve in the car, Shujie can you go get it for me.”
Shen Shujie nodded his head and ran out to go get it. Just as he had crossed about halfway, he heard Shop owner Wang shout out to him, “Shujie, bring some extra cheese with you!”
As he ran, he shouted back in reply, “Alright~~Aiyo!”
Just as he finished his shout, he ran straight into someone else. Hastily, he lifted his head up and apologized, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I did not see where I was going, are you alright?”
This was the first time Jiang Haofeng laid eyes on Shen Shujie, Shujie had run straight into his arms, like a clumsy, naive little fawn.
