" Auntie, auntie, don't close the door yet, don't close the door yet." When Liu Meng arrived, it was just as the heartbroken girl's mother had locked the door.
" Young man, come back tomorrow to handle your business. We're closed now."
" Auntie, did a batch of new numbers come in today?" Liu Meng asked anxiously.
" Yes, they came in this morning. What's the matter?" The auntie replied curiously.
" Auntie, I need to get a number, it's very urgent."
" Young man, what's so urgent about getting a number? You've come several times and never got one. It won't hurt to wait a bit. Come back tomorrow. I have something to do at home." The auntie had a good temper; if it were her daughter, she would have scolded him long ago.
" Auntie, it's really important. Please let me get one. I'll take a taxi to send you home."
The auntie thought, "Is this guy crazy?"
" Well, you must definitely get one this time. Don't go through the whole process and then say there's no good number and wait again." The auntie was very kind-hearted. Seeing how anxious the young man was, she opened the door again.
Liu Meng picked up the book with the new numbers, quickly scanned through it, and indeed found the familiar number in a corner. He couldn't help but kiss it and said excitedly, "Auntie, this is the number. I'll get it right away."
After getting the number, he immediately put it in his phone.
He wanted to pay for the auntie's taxi, but she refused and waited for the bus herself.
After eating, he returned to the dorm. The phone was still quiet. Liu Meng thought, "I went through so much trouble to get this card. Cheng Fei must not have forgotten, right?"
He thought to himself, "I was really just being insecure before. I could have just written down Cheng Fei's number. I was just pretending to be cool, making it all mysterious. I really despise my past self."
Back in the dorm, the seniors were preparing to study. The senior leader saw Liu Meng and immediately said, "Damn, you who speak English more fluently than your native language, where did you go all afternoon? Zheng Wen couldn't find you and almost called me to death."
Jiang Weixin was grinning as he walked in. Seeing Liu Meng, he shook his hand in a fake friendly way, as if he had found a kindred spirit. He said with a grin, "I heard you spoke English for ten minutes straight in class today without stopping. Amazing, you were so deep undercover. No wonder you finished the test in 30 minutes. Impressive, impressive."
" Go to hell," Liu Meng laughed.
......
When they got to the study room, only Zheng Wen was there. Gu Pan didn't come. Sitting next to Zheng Wen, Liu Meng asked, "Why isn't Gu Pan here?"
Zheng Wen gave Liu Meng a look and said teasingly, "I was just about to ask you. Did you do something to upset her? She's been a bit gloomy all afternoon."
Liu Meng protested, "How could I have done anything to upset her?"
Zheng Wen added, "Mr. Kong asked us to visit him this week. Which day are you free? How about tomorrow afternoon? The National Day holiday is coming up, and we might skip classes the next two days to go out and play."
They set the time, and Liu Meng finished the workbook and gave it to Zheng Wen. He made an excuse and left.
He lingered outside the study room of Class 2, peeking through the small window, but didn't see Gu Pan inside.
A while later, the study room door opened, and Wang Meng came out. Liu Meng nodded at her with a smile.
Gu Pan isn't in the study room. Where could she be? She can't be that angry. Liu Meng thought to himself, blaming himself for being too eager and holding her hand during class.
Gu Pan was lying in bed, feeling unwell. She had just drunk a cup of brown sugar water and was holding her stomach, feeling much better. She sighed, thinking, "Being a woman is so troublesome. There's always that time of the month."
She still held the workbook and studied, always a diligent and studious student.
Gu Pan's dorm was on the third floor, at the corner.
Suddenly, there was a knocking sound from outside the window. At first, Gu Pan didn't pay attention, but it continued. She got up with difficulty, pulled the curtain, and saw a piece of cardboard outside with the words, "Being angry affects your beauty!"
Curious, she leaned out and saw a figure standing below, holding a long bamboo pole.
It could only be Liu Meng.
She felt a mix of amusement and warmth.
She wasn't really that angry; she just felt unwell and went back to the dorm early. Liu Meng's antics made her even more annoyed, so she closed the window.
As soon as she closed it, the knocking started again. She covered her ears and waited, but the sound continued.
Feeling annoyed, she opened the window again and saw a small, elegant thermal box being passed up, with the words, "Eat a bowl of hot porridge, you'll feel better!" and a cute smiley face at the end, though the drawing was quite poor.
Gu Pan was truly touched. Before, she was just curious about Liu Meng and admired his talent. His little tricks only made her slightly annoyed, not really affecting her feelings.
But in her vulnerable state, she felt a warm feeling in her heart, and her eyes misted over.
She took the box and said in a low voice, "Hurry up and go. The floor auntie will throw a broom at you if she sees you."
Seeing her take the box, Liu Meng chuckled and joked, "No problem, dying under the peony, even if I get hit, it's worth it."
"Stop being so silly. If you keep this up, I'll throw the porridge down too," Gu Pan said, her face turning red.
The girls in the dorm had already noticed their conversation and opened the windows curiously. Gu Pan was embarrassed and quickly closed the window.
Seeing his apology had been accepted, Liu Meng quickly left.
He was lucky to have met Wang Meng at the entrance of the study room of Class 2. She was a very nice girl with a good temper, making it easy to get information from her.
It turned out that Gu Pan had come to the study room but felt unwell and went back to rest. Wang Meng said Gu Pan had a cold sweat on her forehead and tried to persuade her to see a doctor, but she refused, saying it was an old problem and drinking brown sugar water would help.
Liu Meng knew exactly what was going on.
He took his computer and continued writing in an empty classroom in the main building. The state of inspiration didn't return, but his typing speed had improved significantly. He could now write about 10,000 words in an hour. Over the past few days, he had accumulated about 800,000 words.
When he left the main building, the moon was bright and the stars were sparse. He checked his phone, but Cheng Fei still hadn't called. He sighed, thinking that although he hadn't known her long, he could feel her kindness and openness, which made him feel very comfortable and relaxed. He really missed her cheerful laughter. Not contacting her anymore was indeed a pity.
Cheng Fei never brought her phone to study, thinking it would distract her. Studying should be done with full concentration. When she got back to the dorm, it was almost 10 PM, so she hurriedly went to get water.
When she returned, she could soak her feet. Her clean little feet felt ticklish in the warm water, and she giggled.
"Your laugh points are really low. Your nerves are so sensitive. Soaking your feet is like someone tickling your feet," her good roommate and best friend Min Ran said from the upper bunk, teasing her.
Hearing this, Cheng Fei felt even more ticklish and couldn't help but take her feet out of the water.
"Fei Fei, where are you planning to go for the holiday? Staying at school is so boring. Let's go out and play. How about Ice City or Shen City?" Min Ran asked casually while flipping through a magazine.
"Do you need to stay with your boyfriend? I'm single, so I can go anywhere. You, a married woman, won't your husband come looking for you?" Cheng Fei seized the opportunity to joke.
"Brat, I don't have a boyfriend. What are you talking about?"
"Oh, who's the one who calls you every few days? I see you chat for an hour each time, how sweet."
"Go to hell. He's just a good friend from high school. He's in an engineering school, and I'm in a teacher's college. We just console each other."
"Perfect, he has feelings for you, and you have feelings for him. You can comfort each other."
"Go to hell. We're 3,000 kilometers apart. If we started dating, it would be a waste of time and money. It's not worth it. I can't tie myself down like that." Min Ran shook her head, speaking more to herself than to Cheng Fei. She was a very rational girl.
Cheng Fei took out her phone and played for a while. Suddenly, she thought of the little brat again. She hesitated for a moment and then dialed the number.
Dialing...
It was the waiting tone. The number was activated.
Liu Meng saw an unfamiliar number and felt a bit excited. As soon as he answered, he heard a voice like a lion roaring, "Brat, your phone is finally working! I thought you were playing me. You made me so upset all day."
