Mihu was not in a particularly good mood today.
As usual, after school in the afternoon, she should have gone to the cafeteria with Liu Jingtong, taken a walk around the campus after dinner, and then returned to their respective classes. To her, this was a very ordinary day, nothing special to mention, just listening to Liu Jingtong tell jokes, brag, and tease each other. But it was this ordinary time that made her feel that her day was complete and worth looking forward to. As the saying goes, it's not that you can't live without it, but life is different without it.
However, today, due to the unexpected arrival of someone, the usual dinner routine with Liu Jingtong had to be canceled. As soon as school was out, she unwillingly left the classroom and went to the school gate alone, where she saw that person in a black windbreaker, hands in his pockets, smiling and looking at her from a distance.
"Didn't you have to prepare for the special issue in November? How do you have time to come here?" Mihu took two steps forward and asked as politely as she could.
The man in the black windbreaker took his hands out of his pockets, opened his coat, and pulled out a bouquet of roses as if by magic. He walked up to Mihu and said very gentlemanly, "Flowers for the beauty."
Mihu didn't take them and said, "I'm not a beauty, are you just passing by?"
The man in the black windbreaker looked a bit embarrassed and laughed self-deprecatingly, "Yes, I happened to be on a business trip here and thought I'd come to the school to see you and take you out for dinner."
"My evening study session starts at seven, so I might not be able to have dinner with you."
The man in the black windbreaker pushed back his coat sleeve, glanced at his silver watch, and said, "There's still one hour and five minutes, that's enough. Well, if you really don't want the flowers, just throw them away."
Mihu pointed to a trash can near the school gate. The man in the black windbreaker's face changed slightly, and he walked over and threw the flowers into the trash can forcefully.
"I usually eat in the cafeteria, so..."
"Great, I haven't had cafeteria food since graduation." The man in the black windbreaker walked ahead, and Mihu frowned slightly but followed him.
The man in the black windbreaker was none other than Beihetang, the new star of Dingjie Culture Company and the executive editor of *Ding Fantasy*. He told Mihu he was here on a business trip, but in reality, he wanted to secure Mihu and achieve his goal of finding a partner for Singles' Day.
Mihu was very annoyed. She had originally wanted to say that she ate in the cafeteria and couldn't have dinner with him, but Beihetang reacted so quickly that he turned her words into "Why don't we go to the cafeteria together?"
Fortunately, when they arrived at the cafeteria, there were very few people. They didn't run into Liu Jingtong or any other acquaintances. After a quick meal, Mihu was eager to return to the classroom. Beihetang hesitated, as if he had more tricks up his sleeve. Mihu read his expression and guessed his thoughts. She said frankly, "I'm focusing all my energy on the college entrance exam, so I don't have time to think about anything else. Thank you for coming to see me today."
"After the exam?"
"Waiting for Guyongsheng!"
This was the most direct and honest answer. It seemed cruel but was actually the kindest. Dragging things out would be a torment for both sides.
"Guyongsheng," Beihetang laughed bitterly, then his bitter laugh turned into a cold one, "Where is he now?"
Mihu shook her head and said, "I need to get back to the classroom. Thank you for coming to see me."
Beihetang nodded, said nothing more, and Mihu said, "Goodbye," and turned to go back to the classroom. Beihetang watched the girl's back, his face gradually darkening. He said fiercely, "This time, I will definitely bring you down."
He then took a small, exquisite box from his pocket, gripped it tightly, and the box began to deform. Beihetang turned and walked away coldly.
Mihu returned to the classroom somewhat helplessly. She had just sat down when her phone vibrated. She took it out and saw it was a call from her mother.
"Mom, what's up? I'm about to start class."
Mihu walked out of the classroom and answered the call.
"Nothing, Mom just wants to say one thing. Your father and I have discussed it, and if you really don't want to study abroad, we can go to Nangang instead."
...
This was Mihu's gloomy day. Beihetang's unexpected appearance prevented her from having dinner and walking around the campus with Liu Jingtong. Her mother's call brought up the issue of studying abroad again, which had been a point of contention between her and her parents for half a month. Although her parents had made concessions, their bottom line was still Nangang. Based on her understanding of her parents, it would be difficult for her to stay in the country after high school.
She was in a daze during the evening study session, and the three hours passed almost entirely in a daze. As soon as the bell rang, she hurried out of the classroom and back to the dormitory. If she couldn't focus during self-study, the best thing to do was to go back to the dormitory and sleep. Fatigue tactics were useless.
Back in the dormitory, she sat on the bed and stared into space for a while. Just as she was about to get up to wash up, her phone vibrated again. She thought it might be from Beihetang or her mother, and opened it with a bit of anger. To her surprise, the message was from Liu Jingtong: "The new book has been sent to your email, please check."
After reading Liu Jingtong's message, the irritability and restlessness she had felt earlier vanished instantly. She threw her phone on the bed and quickly turned on her computer. As the computer started up, she kept tapping the keyboard. The thought of the manuscript in her email, which was about to cause another wave of excitement, made Mihu, who had editing experience, unable to stay calm, especially since the manuscript was from Liu Jingtong.
The one minute it took for the computer to start up seemed to Mihu today like several centuries. Once it was on, she skipped the usual refresh and logged into her email directly.
A minute later, the new story Liu Jingtong had promised to send her first appeared before her: *White Horse Cries in the West Wind*!
Without any pause or preparation, Mihu dove straight into reading. She didn't wash up or talk to her roommates. She wrapped herself in the blanket, leaned against the pillow, placed the computer on her bent legs, and lost herself in the world of the story.
An hour passed, and the other roommates had returned from the classroom. There was an unwritten rule in the senior class dormitory that after 11 PM, everyone would keep quiet. Mihu stood out tonight in this regard.
Two hours passed, and all the roommates were asleep. They thought she was looking at some course materials and said goodnight to her softly before going to bed. Mihu didn't even notice anyone coming in or talking to her. She was now on the vast grassland connected to the desert, experiencing all kinds of joys and sorrows with the girl riding the white horse.
Time ticked by, but Mihu remained still, her hand subconsciously pressing the arrow key, flipping a page, then another...
...
It's hard to say how long this went on. Outside the window, it was pitch black, the night so quiet it was almost terrifying, as if the thickest ink had been poured over the entire world.
It was the darkness before dawn!
Mihu, whether from sitting for too long or some other reason, began to tremble as she pressed the arrow key. Soon, her whole body was trembling lightly. As she neared the end of the story, her expression became vacant, as if she were under a spell. (To be continued. Please search for Piaowen.com for better and faster updates!
