Chapter 6: Who the hell are you?

The next day was a bright and sunny one, with the sun shining brightly and birds singing sweetly.

Of course, this referred to Lin Feng's mood. At around 5 a.m., just as the late-night snack session was about to end, he received a call from Wang Meng. Last night, three security guards were on duty at Deya Chemical's security room. Wang Meng had quietly taken care of all three and left a message on the wall.

"Disasters caused by heaven can still be survived. Disasters caused by oneself cannot be survived. — The Heaven's Punisher!"

Feeling elated, Lin Feng didn't wait for the snack session to end. He pulled Officer Zhang and the others to have an early morning drink. Officer Zhang and the others, who were already quite tipsy, were more than happy to join. They followed Lin Feng to a famous early morning bar in the Lantian District and continued their revelry.

Deputy Chief Li received the alarm from Deya Chemical early in the morning, reporting that the security guards had been attacked and three of them were injured. After a thorough investigation of the scene with several police officers, Deputy Chief Li concluded that this was a retaliatory act, and a premeditated one at that. He immediately suspected Lin Feng, who had caused trouble the previous day.

Lin Feng was from Liaoyuan District, and the police station had all his records. With additional information from the neighborhood committee, Deputy Chief Li led his team straight to the Lantian District's Chufeng Internet Cafe.

"Damn, no wonder he left so easily yesterday, he was planning to take revenge at night." Deputy Chief Li cursed inwardly. "Hmph, don't think you can get away with it just because you acted at night. I can still find evidence."

However, Deputy Chief Li had no evidence at the moment. Wang Meng was meticulous and left no traces. He wore a leather cap that didn't leave any fibers, a black windbreaker, and oversized sports shoes of an unknown brand. Moreover, Wang Meng, who practiced iron palm, had no fingerprints. The scene was completely devoid of any evidence that could help solve the case.

But Deputy Chief Li didn't care. Once someone was in his police station, he could turn the lack of evidence into evidence. Especially after Lin Feng's defiance the previous day, he had specially applied for a summons. Although it was only valid for 8 hours, that was enough time for him to "find" all the evidence he needed.

However, when Deputy Chief Li arrived at "Chufeng Internet Cafe," he was genuinely surprised. After adding more computers in September, Chufeng Internet Cafe now had 300 computers, making it one of the largest in the entire Chu City.

Deputy Chief Li hadn't expected that Lin Feng, at such a young age, was the owner of this large internet cafe. This made him a bit uneasy. If he used torture to extract a confession, it could cause significant trouble. After all, someone who owned an internet cafe of this scale, though not a billionaire, was certainly not a commoner. Such a person couldn't be bullied at will.

But thinking of the powerful figure behind Hu Xiaobing, Deputy Chief Li's courage grew. Although Hu Xiaobing and the big shot were only cousins, they had a very close relationship. If Hu Xiaobing got into trouble in his jurisdiction, Deputy Chief Li knew he would be in serious trouble.

Since ancient times, the common people have never dared to challenge the officials, no matter how rich they are!

"Where is your boss, Lin Feng? Where is he? We are from the Liaoyuan District Police Station." Deputy Chief Li, with a stern look, walked up to the cash register and asked.

"I... I don't know!" The cashier girl seemed frightened and said nervously.

"What! Don't cover for him, or I'll charge you with harboring a criminal!" Deputy Chief Li slammed the table and shouted.

"Officer, Officer, what's going on? I'm the daily manager here, don't scare the little girl." Liu Yishan hurried over.

"Where is your boss, Lin Feng? He's committed a crime, and we're here to arrest him." Deputy Chief Li's words were too harsh. The investigation was still ongoing, yet he had already declared Lin Feng a suspect. In Hong Kong, this would have led to an investigation by the ICAC, but in the mainland, it wasn't considered too out of line.

"Ah, how could Boss Lin commit a crime? Officer, are you sure you have the right person?" Liu Yishan looked anxious. Whether from a personal or professional standpoint, Lin Feng was the core of Chufeng Internet Cafe. If he really committed a crime, the cafe would be in serious trouble.

"Cut the crap, where is he?" Deputy Chief Li said impatiently.

"Um, yesterday he went to a barbecue place, then to the hospital, and then had a late-night snack with Officer Zhang and others. He hasn't come back yet." Liu Yishan thought for a moment and explained.

"Officer Zhang? Which Officer Zhang?" Deputy Chief Li frowned. If this involved a police officer from another jurisdiction, things would get complicated.

"Officer Zhang from the Lantian District, who is in charge of public security." Liu Yishan stammered.

Deputy Chief Li snorted inwardly. Just a small instructor, while he was a deputy chief. Although they were from different jurisdictions, rank still mattered.

After finding out the locations of the famous late-night snack spots in Lantian District, Deputy Chief Li drove to each one to search for Lin Feng.

When Deputy Chief Li finally found Lin Feng, he was drinking merrily with Officer Zhang and others, still in high spirits.

"Screech~" A sharp braking sound, and Deputy Chief Li got out of the car with a grim face.

"Lin Feng, this is a summons. We suspect you are involved in an assault that occurred at 4:10 a.m. last night. We need you to assist with the investigation." Deputy Chief Li raised an eyebrow, and two police officers moved to arrest Lin Feng.

Seeing the summons in Deputy Chief Li's hand, Lin Feng smiled wryly.

This smile only increased Deputy Chief Li's anger.

"What are you waiting for? Cuff him and let's solve the case quickly!" Deputy Chief Li, furious, shouted loudly.

"Wait!" Officer Zhang stood up, looking displeased.

They were having a great time, sharing funny stories from their work, and Deputy Chief Li's arrival was like a bucket of cold water poured over them, ruining the mood.

"You... you, who are you? Show me the summons!" Officer Zhang, who was quite drunk, spoke with a slurred tongue, but his mind was clear.

Deputy Chief Li didn't want to directly confront a police officer from another jurisdiction and reluctantly handed the summons to Officer Zhang.

Officer Zhang, with bloodshot eyes, carefully examined the summons and confirmed it was genuine.

"Is it real? Can we take him now?" Deputy Chief Li, trying to maintain his composure, snatched back the summons and was about to arrest Lin Feng but was stopped by Officer Zhang.

"Wait, the summons is real, but Little Lin couldn't have committed the crime. You said it was at 4:10 a.m. last night, but he was with us from midnight until now. All the officers here can vouch for him." Officer Zhang pushed away the officer who was about to handcuff Lin Feng.

Deputy Chief Li's face turned pale. He hadn't expected this small officer to defy him so openly. Seeing the mocking smile on Lin Feng's lips only made him angrier.

"What's your position? Do you know what time it is? You're a public servant, yet you're drunk and drinking on duty. What kind of example is that? Your chief is Ouyang Zhenhua, right? I'll call him and complain about you!" Deputy Chief Li picked up his phone, but it was just a threat. As a deputy chief, he had no authority over officers from another jurisdiction. The call was more for intimidation than anything else. If he really called, it could create friction with the Lantian District Police Chief.

"You... who the hell are you? Threatening me with a phone call? I'm not afraid!" Officer Zhang, fueled by alcohol, pushed Deputy Chief Li away.

Deputy Chief Li was stunned. He hadn't expected the other officer to defy him and even push him. The other officers quickly surrounded Deputy Chief Li to protect him and pushed Officer Zhang away. This only further enraged Officer Zhang and the other officers, who quickly surrounded them. A dozen officers were now pushing and shoving at the early morning bar.

Deputy Chief Li, despite his anger, quickly regained his composure. He was sober, while the others were drunk. If the police officers from two different jurisdictions started fighting in public, he, as the highest-ranking officer on the scene, would bear the primary responsibility. He could face demotion or a transfer to a less important position, which he had worked hard for twenty years to avoid.

Damn, why is everything going so wrong today! — Deputy Chief Li cursed inwardly.
