Chapter 3: The Midnight Gunshots

Leaping down from the second floor, Ye Qi rolled to dissipate the force, and stood up unscathed thanks to the soft grass. He patted off the grass clippings, and with the unexpected statue in his arms, he was in high spirits, ready to leave St. Thomas Hospital to study the mysteries of the two magic statues.
"Crash!"
However, before Ye Qi could leave, Mori, whom he had just bid goodnight, appeared on the lawn amidst the sound of breaking glass. The black market dealer was not in good shape, despite the grass cushioning his fall. The glass shards that rained down around him caused him considerable trouble, leaving small cuts all over his body.
"Damn it! God will surely condemn you untrustworthy bastards! Dear Ye, for the sake of our past pleasant cooperation, you must help me!" Mori muttered a curse and then saw Ye Qi, who was about to leave, immediately crawling up to plead for help.
Ye Qi, who had a guilty conscience, felt a pang of unease at the sight of the black market dealer falling from the sky. But after hearing Mori's words, he knew it wasn't his fault and immediately relaxed.
Looking at the bloodied Mori, before Ye Qi could speak, two dark gun barrels appeared at the window of Mori's former recovery room on the second floor. The next moment, bullets rained down on Ye Qi and Mori.
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
The muffled sound of the silenced pistols did not attract much attention in the quiet night. The agile Ye Qi, along with the relatively nimble black market dealer, had already darted behind a flower bed before the other side started shooting. With the flower bed as cover, the two managed to survive the first wave of gunfire.
"Damn Mori, did you seduce some gang leader's woman? Why would gunmen come to your door in the middle of the night!" Ye Qi, who had just been hit by the sudden gunfire, was naturally in a bad mood. He crouched down as much as possible and shouted at the black market dealer. Mori, facing Ye Qi's anger, looked innocent, widening his eyes and swearing, "I swear to God, I absolutely did not do such a thing! They are untrustworthy, planning to double-cross me! My bodyguards are already gone! Oh, damn! Those things haven't been moved yet, my beautiful treasures!"
As Mori explained to Ye Qi, he immediately thought of the items he had acquired that hadn't been moved and tried to rush out, but was held back by the quick-handed Ye Qi.
"Whoosh! Whoosh!"
Mori's impulsive action immediately drew the attention of those above, and another round of gunfire followed. Ye Qi slapped Mori across the face and roared, "Are you crazy! Do you want to die? Can't you tell which is more important, money or your life?"
"Of course I can tell, but what's the point of living without money!"
Mori, slapped awake by Ye Qi, looked as if he had lost his parents. Ye Qi, angry at Mori's obsession with money, ignored him and focused his attention on the situation above.
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
The faint gunshots sounded again, a dense barrage of bullets raining down, shattering the tiles on the flower bed and causing countless flowers to fly in the moonlight. Ye Qi, hiding behind the flower bed, sneered. Although there were clear rules among the Demon Hunters prohibiting attacks on ordinary people, this only applied when the Demon Hunters' own safety was not threatened. In this case, being caught in a gang shootout was clearly not such a situation.
Ye Qi's hand reached into his coat, and the next moment, the M500 revolver appeared in the night, its silver body flashing like lightning in the darkness.
The M1911 automatic pistol, known for its simple structure, few parts, and ease of disassembly and assembly, as well as its reliable mechanism, good safety, and low failure rate, was favored by the military, law enforcement, security personnel, and civilian enthusiasts. Despite its larger size and weight, and the significant recoil affecting shooting accuracy, and the limited 7-round magazine, even the modified M1911A1 only held 7+1 rounds. However, this did not detract from its popularity. Ye Qi also liked this series of pistols, second only to the M500 in his collection. If not for financial constraints, he would have collected the entire series.
Out of his fondness, Ye Qi had identified the gun in the other's hand with just a quick glance. Therefore, he had been silently counting the number of shots fired by the other side from the moment they started shooting.
"Fourteen shots, just right!"
As soon as the other side's shooting stopped, Ye Qi seized the opportunity and decisively darted out from behind the flower bed, firing two shots upward. The M500 revolver, with its 0.50-inch caliber and the powerful Magnum ammunition, had immense power, equivalent to twice that of a Desert Eagle. The sound was also significant, and compared to the silenced M1911, the two shots from the M500 were like two thunderclaps.
"Bang! Bang!"
The quiet night was immediately shattered by the deafening gunshots, and the "wailing" alarm from the hospital's main building soon echoed through the night sky.
"Run!" Ye Qi grabbed Mori and ran toward the back of the hospital. Since the alarm had sounded, the hospital security would arrive within two minutes, and the police within ten. If they didn't leave now, they wouldn't be able to leave later.
"My treasures!" Mori let out a heart-wrenching cry, truly a tear-jerker. However, the black market dealer also understood the consequences of rushing back and could only run while glancing back with a reluctant look, muttering, "Those damn bastards, I will definitely..."
"Those damn bastards are already dead! And we need to speed up!" Ye Qi, clearly dissatisfied with Mori's distraction during their escape, corrected him and pulled the black market dealer's arm, increasing their speed. By the time the hospital security and police arrived, Ye Qi and the black market dealer had already left the hospital's secured area.
In the system's evaluation, the M1911 was described as: a simple, few-part, easy-to-assemble, safe, and low-failure-rate ordinary pistol.
For the M500, it was: a powerful, requiring strong arm strength to handle, ordinary enhanced pistol.
Although Ye Qi's rumored low attributes prevented him from identifying the specific power of the two guns, the evaluations alone made it clear which was superior. Moreover, the M500 was designed for hunting large animals like elephants and rhinos, making the M1911 seem inadequate in comparison. Therefore, even though the two gunmen on the second floor took effective defensive and evasive actions when Ye Qi fired, they were still penetrated by the M500 through the wall.
