After breakfast, a small servant walked in.
When Ping Zhaofu saw the boy, she jumped up quickly, exclaimed, “It’s you!”
“Huh?” Zheng Ping looked inexplicable, “May I ask, Ma’am, what’s wrong with the little one?”
“Don’t you remember me?”
“Ma’am…., please don’t say such ambiguous words, it will make Lord misunderstood….” Zheng Ping, who had always been mischievous, liked to joke around.
Ping Zhaofu turned her head in astonishment when she finally hit her sense.
“You are…..ah…..that………” The man who rescued her when she threw herself into the river? “Where is your beard? Why is it missing?”
It was because the missing beard, that’s why she felt familiar but could not remember!
Cha Xiangye twitched his mouth, gritted his teeth secretly and suppressed his smile.
Ping Zhaofu couldn’t believe it, her face went pale.
What did she say after being rescued that day?
Said she doesn’t want to remarry…… begged him to ignore her…. What else?
Oh, she said he’s nosy.
And he knew that she would rather die than marry him!
Ping Zhaofu’s eyes went dark suddenly and fell onto the chair.
Her life will not going to be peaceful now.
Cha Xiangye came over, he was tall and Ping Zhaofu suddenly felt like a little mouse being stared by the beast. She could only tremble and wait for the moment to be eaten.
Her chin was lifted by the long fingers and Cha Xiangye saw her eyes full of panic.
That day she was brave enough to tell him not to save her, words spoken out very smoothly, dared to look at him directly and argued with him. But now, she looked so pitiful, it must be because of hearing too many rumours outside…
“Will you seek for death again?” Cha Xiangye asked.
Ping Zhaofu bit her lower lip, didn’t knowing how to answer.
She shook her head as she felt the threat with his fingertips.
“No?”
She shook her head again.
“Speak.”
“No..”
The thumb brushed across the cheek, and goose bumps appeared all over her body.
Her skin was little rough as because she spent most of her time outdoor in the farm, but she didn’t have any acne spots. Her features were upright, small and delicate, which made her quite attractive to him.
“Behave.. I wont treat you badly.”
His ‘behave’ had hidden meaning, but Ping Zhaofu thought it was only literal.
“I’ll be good.” She promised.
“That’s good.” Noticing Zheng Ping’s puzzled eyes, he realized that his hand had been lingering on her face for too long, and he quickly removed uncomfortably. “I’m going out. If you’re tired, you can go back and rest first.”
The two elderly of Cha family have passed away, and so there’s no need for their daughter-in-law to have any tea ceremony after the wedding night.
Cha Xiangye turned around after speaking with Ping Zhaofu.
Ping Zhaofu did not dare to neglect her role as a wife, and followed the two people behind.
Aware of her actions, Cha Xiangye turned his head in wonder, “What are you doing?”
“Se_send you….. out….”
“No need” Cha Xiangye waved, “Just go back to the room.”
“Okay.”
Husband gave order, Ping Zhaofu dared not disobey, so she turned around and head back.
At this time, the maid was clearing up the table, Ping Zhaofu quickly helped.
The maids did not stop her but deliberately pretended to fumble and let her clean up all the dishes on the table, as if she was the servant.
“Where’s the kitchen?” Ping Zhaofu asked.
Xi’er pointed out a direction.
Ping Zhaofu went to the kitchen with a tray of leftover dishes from the earlier breakfast.
A group of maids were all laughing behind her.
“Sure enough, she was born with a low fate. When you marry into a big family, you still treat yourself as slave.”
Ping Zhaofu didn’t hear their ridicule. She took care of the family matters all the time. It was her responsibility, whether it was cleaning, cooking, farming, feeding cattle, and even cleaning up the dining table was part of her job, so eventually became natural acts for her.
When she arrived in the kitchen, an old lady took away the tray from her hand and asked in a confused tone, “Are you new?”
Ping Zhaofu thought she was referring to the newlyweds, so she nodded, “Yes.”
“Why are you wearing red clothing?” Aunt Xu looked at her from head to toe, “You like to play dress up?” Aunt Xu flashed, “You probably not Madam, right?”
“My name is Ping Zhaofu… Yes, I am the newly married lady.” She wasn’t used to being called as ‘madam’, after all, even Mother Ping did not call her so respectfully.
“How could the lady bring the dishes back by yourself?” Aunt Xu shook her head, “Madam, I heard that your family was poor before, but now you’re the Master’s wife. How can you do such a servant’s job?”
Another Aunt came over and wondered: “Why are you still wearing yesterday’s dress? Is it because you didn’t bring your own clothes?”
“I did.” Ping Zhaofu explained hurriedly, “I was little rush in the morning and there was no time to change clothes.”
“Did you wear the red dress last night while sleeping too?” The two women looked at each other and the Aunt frankly asked, “Did the Master touch you?”
“Hmm… this……” Ping Zhaofu couldn’t help being shy when talking about the affairs in the house, and she nodded after a while.
“Get baby soon for Cha family.” Said Aunt Xu, “That’s your only responsibility, to give birth to an heir. Other things you don’t have to bother.”
“Really?” Nothing else?
“Just tell the maids in the room to do whatever you want.” Aunt Xu turned around and pass the tray to a young cook.
“By the way,” Aunt advised, “Don’t walk around at home on the during the days, just stay in yard, okay?”
Aunt Xu seemed to meant something else… but Ping Zhaofu who had just arrived, couldn’t understand her undertone.
“Only in the yard?”
“Yes, it’s better for you to stay in the yard. Don’t go any other places like the garden or woods.” The Aunt thought to herself, this might able to prevent Ping Zhaofu from seeing ‘him’.
As log as you both didn’t see each other, ‘nothing’ will happen.
“I see, understand. Thank you.” Ping Zhofu nodded and left the kitchen.
Back in the courtyard, the three maids were cleaning with a relaxed attitude. Seeing Ping Zhaofu came back early, they did not greet her and pretended like as if she was the present air.
After Ping Zhaofu changed her clothes, she didn’t know what else she can do at home. Although the Aunt from the kitchen said that she didn’t have to do anything, but her body which used to hard work became restless because she was bored.
So, she picked up a broom at the corner and start sweeping the group skilfully.
Xi’er, who was cleaning the window saw her and deliberately shook her head and said, “Madam, why are you still wearing this kind of clothes?”
“What’s wrong with this clothing?” Ping Zhaofu was puzzled.
“The quality is so bad…” Xi’er touched her cuffs and shook her head again, “Somehow our Cha family is the richest in Linhe City. It’s too embarrassing for you to wear such coarse clothing, Madam.”
Ping Zhaofu pursed her lips, she was embarrassed and didn’t know how to respond.
This was the best suit that she wore in the past twenty-three years. It considered very good as there were no holes, or patches in this clothing. In the past, she could only pick up the clothes from the neighbour or Mother Ping no longer want to wear.
Yue’er stepped forward and whispered near to her ears, “Actually, I can help you to prepare some clothes.”
“Really?” Ping Zhaofu opened her surprised mouth.
“They are in a suitcase at the back of the room, you can go over and see yourself…”
Ping Zhaofu walked to the small room with a little expectation. Sure enough, she saw several closets. When she opened them, they were all silk and satin. Every piece of the fabric was fine quality and the embroidery was even more exquisite. There was even fox fur cloak, Ping Zhaofu admired it, who had never seen such great material.
Are all these for her?
Ping Zhaofu was excited, tears filled in her eyes.
The rumours fundamentally were not true at all. In fact, Cha Xiangye was a good man. The sudden death of his wife was due to illness and weak body. Probably because they were born rich and always been pampered. Definitely not died from torturing. A strong body like her, surely have no health problem.
Ping Zhaofu started to change on the thick cotton robe. She immediately loved it, the meticulous and delicate embroidery on the cuffs captured her heart and unable to take it off. Moreover, the dress was twice or thrice warmer than what she currently had. When she stepped out of the room, she didn’t feel any cold at all.
Back in the main room, the maids called out with affections, “Madam, this dress looks so good on you. You should wear that often…”
Ping Zhaofu smiled shyly.
“That’s right,” Yue’er said, “Those clothes were meant to be a surprise for you from Master. So if Master sees you wearing the new clothes later when he return, please don’t say that we tell you, otherwise we will be scolded.”
Ping Zhaofu immediately nodded, “I will not mention it. I will tell him that I found it myself.”
“It’s very kind of you, Madam.” Yue’er smiled falsely.
Ping Zhaofu couldn’t help touching the clothes again before continuing to sweep the floor.

Cha Xiangye came back from work in the evening. As soon as the caretaker sent the news, the kitchen immediately prepared to serve the dinner.
Xi’er took out a bucket of water to let Cha Xiangye to wash hands and rinse mouth. When he turned his head and saw Ping Zhaofu standing by the dining table, his thick eyebrows frowned.
“What are you wearing?”
Remember what Yue’er said earlier, Ping Zhaofu quickly explained, “I saw this at the back of the room, and I want to say……”
“Take it off!”
Ping Zhaofu was stunned.
“I said, take it off!” Cha Xiangye roared.
Ping Zhaofu was terrified and quickly took off her cotton robe. It was a cold evening, she couldn’t help shivering.
“Why are these clothes still here?” Cha Xiangye questioned the maid.
The maid pushed around, and finally, Xi’er the older one, came forward to explain.
“It was temporarily placed in the small room and had not been dealt with. I didn’t expect Madam would notice that and insisted on wearing it. It was useless for us to stop her and we dared not either.”
Xi’er knelt down, and the other two maids also knelt quickly.
“We really tried to stop Madam, but she saw the clothes with good quality, and insisted wearing it on herself.” Xi’er cried.
“Madam also said that everything in this house belongs to her. We are just maids. If we dare to stop her again, we will surely be punished by the family.” Le’er was shaking all over with tears.
Ping Zhaofu stood there stupidly, never expected that she would be overcast by these three maids.
She quickly stepped forward to explain, “I didn’t say that…”
“Lady is the Madam of the family. How we dare to disobey her.” Yue’er cried to Cha Xingye, “but we did tell her that you will be angry.”
Ping Zhaofu suddenly fell into a situation where she couldn’t argue further. She froze and stood still at her original spot, looking pale and didn’t know how to defend herself.
“Get out!” Cha Xiangye yelled. “Get out of here now!”
T/N : Who is he yelling at?? :O
