Ping Zhaofu recovered from her short breath after a long time. Her legs had no strength, she sat for a while at the edge of barrel before she could crawled out from the bath tub.

Her clothes had been torn, and wet. They were all thrown on the ground like rags.

She knew that she must have said something wrong again which make him lose his temper, but she didn’t know where she was wrong, or did he actually see through that she was lying?

She would rather get it ended by herself instead of suffered the pain and being tortured to death. No matter how stupid she was, she knew she couldn’t tell him the truth.

It was really terrifying when he lost his temper, but she remembered his gentleness and thoughtfulness, so she decided that the fault was on her and she decided to be more careful when speaking later.

Ping Zhaofu looked around, saw the damp cloth thrown by Cha Xiangye, she grabbed it and covered herself and quickly walked into the room.

The door was not closed, and the cold wind blew in made Ping Zhaofu’s nose itchy, and she sneezed several times.

While rubbing her itchy nose, she took out the clothes from the suitcase and put them on. Cha Xiangye leaned back on the bed rail, holding a book on his hand, his semi-wet long hair draped messily on his shoulders. Ping Zhaofu couldn’t help thinking that the view was indeed beautiful, just like the summer lake, with the blooming lotus flowers. It was breathtaking and irresistible to look away.

She walked over to the bed, he gave her with a sharp look when she tried to pull his hair slowly off from his shoulder. She couldn’t help feeling a little shy, and said timidly: “I will help to dry your hair to avoid the cold.”

Cha Xiangye lowered his eyebrows noncommitantyly, and Ping Zhaofu guessed that she had acquiesced, so she quickly grabbed a clean towel and climbed onto the bed, carefully dry his hair strands after strands.

“Do you also help Ping Guifu wipe his hair just like this?”

“Hmm… well, otherwise…”

The long arms extended and pushed her away.

Ping Zhaofu, who was caught off guard, fell on the bed and slammed her back against the wall. She yelled softly in pain.

“Did I hurt you?”

Cha Xiangye thought to himself- this woman was either stupid or naive, she couldn’t even tell if he was angry.

“I am sorry, I’ll work harder.” Ping Zhaofu’s hand touched his hair and Cha Xiangye pushed her away again.

She then finally understood that he didn’t want her to wipe his hair.

Ping Zhaofu bit her lip for a while, not knowing what to do.

But it was winter, although there were coals in the house but still wasn’t warm enough. Even in the summer, people who let their hair get drenched may be exposed to cold.

“Your hair is wet, it must be wiped dry.” She resolutely said in her tone, just like she usually exhorted Ping Guifu.

“Don’t touch me with your dirty hands that have touched other man.”

“Guifu him….”

“Shut up!”

“He’s like a brother!” Ping Zhaofu screamed when he yelled her to shut up or get off.

“What?”

“I’ve seen him grow up since I was little, he’s just like my brother…”

“He was your husband.”

“But emotionally- he is just like a brother to me!” The little hand clenched a fist unconsciously. “I always treat him like a younger brother, so often he finds me very annoying and tells me to leave him alone every time. It may be because of this, he fell in love with other woman.”

After all, he was just a boy who had grown up together since she was a child. She had never imagined doing things, like bathing in the tub or even kissing with Ping Guifu.

“Still, you were angry at him for falling in love with another woman that make you killed yourself.” Cha Xiangye’s tone was sour.

What he hated the most that his woman has other man in her heart. He knew that the marriage would not work when he knew she was a child bride, but he was anxious at the time. After all, he wasn’t young anymore.

In addition, he sent people to investigate and confirmed that she was a good girl, who was diligent and practical. Thinking about the two previous wives who were raised and spoiled under rich family. Maybe it was because Zhaofu wasn’t young and may have experienced, she could be different than other people, that was why he got tempted so easily.

So he agreed to the matchmaker with a high hope.

But he forgot that she might always have that little husband in her heart.

“Yes, I was hurt by that,” Ping Zhaofu said honestly, “but that wasn’t the only reason. I was thrown into the river because of despair. Since I was sold to Ping family at the age of three, I have been diligent, filial and hardworking. I never complaint, but in the end I found that I was nothing but just a stranger to the family. And suddenly, I didn’t know who I was and why I was born in this world….”

Cha Xiangye turned his head and stared at the girl’s sad face. His lips were closed and remained silent. His heart rising up and down, not sure whether he should believe her.

“Have you heard my rumours?”

“Huh?”

“My wife—she was tortured to death by me.”

It was too fake to say that have never heard of the news, and Ping Zhaofu nodded with embarrassment.

“Aren’t you afraid?”

He tentatively stretched out his hand and pulled a bunch of half-wet hair and held it tightly as if it were a hostage. Ping Zhaofu did not evade, just nodding stiffly.

“I can kill you anytime.” He threatened in a low voice.

Ping Zhaofu suddenly raised her lowered head and looked directly into his eyes.

Her eyes were so clear, Cha Xiangye who was maliciously bullying her, turned a little guilty.

“You won’t.” Her tone was firm, as if eager to convince someone. “If you were such a cruel person, you wouldn’t have rescued me in the river where the water was freezing cold and even gave me Zheng Ping’s cloak.”

She figured out that he was actually a good man after knowing that he was the one that saved her (even if she didn’t want to be saved at all).

Cha Xiangye snorted coldly, “I was just bored.”

“The river was very cold on that day. People without determination would not dare to enter the water.”

Now that she tried to think back when she drowned herself into the river, it felt like her body was frozen into ice. Her hands and feet were so stiff and unable to move when she was struggling inside the water.

“I scolded you for being nosy the other day and I even thought that I would find another chance to cast into the river again in the future. I told myself, I will definitely observe my left and right first, making sure you are not there before I jump.”

The corner of Cha Xiangye’s mouth twitched, not wanting to be found that he was pulling a smile because of her innocent expression.

“Then who saved you after that?”

“I didn’t jump. As I said before, I was locked up until the day of the marriage.”

“…”

“Since I knew that you were the one who saved me that day, and you even spoke softly to me and willing to believe in me, I knew that you weren’t the person like what the outside world had said.”

“Am I that gentle?” He had never heard such a positive comment.

“Except occasionally when the temper comes up, most of the time is very gentle.” She nodded hard, swearing.

“Your….family had always been rude and bossy to you?” He believed that his personality had nothing to do with tenderness.

“Do you think I’d compare you with Ping family?”

He nodded slightly.

“Well, it’s not entirely untrue….” She nodded in agreement. “By the way, why did you choose to believe me instead of Xi’er and the rest?”

“I have someone watching you.”

“What?” Like a surveillance?

“I know very well what you’ve done all day….” The corner of his mouth raised a sneer. “Does this still make you feel that I’m different from the rumours?”

After Ping Zhaofu had thought about it and said, “It’s normal to send someone to supervise me. After all, I’m just a stranger to you. Your house is so big, poor person like me can actually live for several months by just stealing a vase. It’s right to guard me.”

Cha Xiangye’s facial expression were distorted by his smile.

This new wife is really interesting.

“Can I continue to help with your hair? It’s bad for your health if it drags on too long and you will have headache tomorrow.” She frowned with worry.

“Remember to dry your own hair.”

The little face glowed with joy.

Just say that he was very gentle.

She didn’t know that her happy smile actually made Cha Xiangye a little uncomfortable. He cleared his throat and said, “To the body that is going to carry a child, cannot be sick as well.”

“Yes, I know that. The purpose of my marriage is to have children. I will do my best for Cha family.” Her tone and eyes were full of determination.

Even if the love making was so uncomfortable, and always made her heart of the legs pain and bleed, she would still try to endure it.

The words that she said had made him uneasy, his lips moved and wanted to say something but in the end he gave up.

Cha Xiangye turned his head and continue with his reading.

“I will dry yours first and then do mine later.”

Cha Xiangye mutually agreed but there was no voice coming out from his mouth.

Ping Zhaofu smiled from time to time when noticing he was trying to be cooperative and involuntarily changed his position for her. She carefully continued to dry his wet hair.
