Chapter 13 of 100
Chapter 13: The Plum Blossom Numerology, Chen Long's "Young Master" Box Office Prediction!
12 min read2,901 words
Chen Long worked hard on the set, personally performing any high-risk and dangerous stunts, earning him the nickname "Hardworking Hero" within a few days.
"Boss, today's Star Island Daily published an article commenting on Chen Long's destiny chart. A famous Taiwanese master of Purple Star Astrology, Zeng Ruming, also opened a column to analyze Chen Long's chart in detail, concluding that Chen Long has at most average talent!"
Today, Rulan was dressed fashionably in a light blue dress that accentuated her beautiful curves, complementing her fair complexion and exuding elegance and grace. However, the news she brought was not good.
"Have the fortune tellers in Hong Kong taken any action?"
Wang Zhong was not concerned; the more famous one becomes, the more trouble one attracts. He had anticipated being criticized.
"None of the famous fortune tellers in Hong Kong have made public statements. Boss, is this news deliberately leaked by Chen Long?" Rulan asked, somewhat angrily. "How can someone be like this?"
"It was deliberately leaked, but not by Chen Long!"
Wang Zhong said this with complete indifference.
"Then who could it be?"
Rulan, being considerate, refilled Wang Zhong's coffee and asked.
"Who else but Golden Harvest? They want to use this topic to hype up 'Young Master'!"
Wang Zhong chuckled.
"Pack up your things. No one will come for consultations until the final box office figures for 'Young Master' are out. I'll give you a long leave!"
As the saying goes, when the tree wants to be still, the wind won't stop. Just as Wang Zhong was about to go downstairs, he was intercepted by entertainment reporters.
"Hello, Mr. Wang, I am a reporter from Star Island Daily. What are your thoughts on Chen Long's 'Young Master'? What do you predict its final box office will be?"
A refined reporter blocked Wang Zhong's path.
"Sorry, Mr. Wang is not available for interviews today!"
Rulan stepped forward, blocking the reporter. Rulan, a graduate of George University's Public Relations program, was adept at handling such situations, which was why Wang Zhong had her as his assistant and spokesperson.
Wang Zhong believed that with Rulan's abilities, she could handle this matter well, even if more reporters came.
But Wang Zhong had other plans today!
"Regarding the question from the Star Island Daily reporter, I can confidently say today that 'Young Master' will be a huge hit, with a total box office revenue exceeding 8 million, and it might even reach 10 million!"
Wang Zhong's words were shocking.
"Are you sure it will be between 8 million and 10 million? You're talking about 'Young Master'?"
The Star Island Daily reporter felt a bit dizzy, unsure, but was filled with excitement. He could imagine how thrilled the editor-in-chief would be when he saw this article.
Promotion and a raise would no longer be just a dream!
"Of course, every word I say can be published!"
Wang Zhong ignored Rulan's anxious gaze and affirmed.
The reporter left excitedly, but Rulan felt no relief. She could imagine how the newspapers would go wild over Wang Zhong tomorrow!
Unlike the box office figures of hundreds of millions in the future, no film in Hong Kong in the 1980s had ever exceeded 10 million!
"Boss, you...!"
Rulan racked her brain for an adjective.
"Mad?"
Wang Zhong responded.
"Yes!"
Rulan finally realized that only the word "mad" could describe Wang Zhong's actions.
"No, this isn't madness. You have to trust my expertise! I am the most professional predictor in the Hong Kong and Taiwan regions, and I will be the best in the world!"
"I said the box office will be between 8 million and 10 million, so it will definitely be between 8 million and 10 million!"
Wang Zhong said confidently.
Rulan looked at Wang Zhong with a mix of admiration and doubt. They say a serious man is the most charming, but honestly, she had little confidence in Wang Zhong's prediction!
"Chen Long's Wild Claim: 'Young Master' Box Office to Exceed 8 Million!" — Star Island Daily
"Prediction or Nonsense?" — Eastern Daily
"From 300,000 to 8 Million: The Most Mad Prediction of the Century!" — Ming Pao
"Wang Zhong Knows Nothing About Movies, He's Just a Charlatan!" — Next Weekly
"It's Not April Fool's Day, Clown Wang Zhong!"
One by one, articles condemning Wang Zhong appeared on the front pages of major newspapers. Jin Tang, who had a good relationship with Wang Zhong, was relatively restrained compared to other newspapers, but even so, the articles were filled with distrust!
For a time, Wang Zhong became like a rat in the street, everyone wanted to beat him!
Fortune tellers from Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and other places also joined in, filling the pages with insults.
However, there was a heartening phenomenon: fortune tellers in the Hong Kong and Taiwan regions remained unusually silent, not criticizing Wang Zhong's actions. Mutual support and assistance have always been the professional code of conduct for fortune tellers in the Hong Kong and Taiwan regions.
Yan Shilin Wu Zhang, a fortune teller from Taiwan, angrily tore up the newspaper. Young people act impulsively!
One must understand that the foundation of a fortune teller's survival is their reputation!
A fortune teller who speaks without thinking is not trustworthy!
He had originally planned to invite Wang Zhong to serve as an assistant, but now it seemed he would have to delay this!
"If 'Young Master' reaches 8 million, Golden Harvest will hire Wang Zhong as the chief consultant with an annual salary of 1 million!"
Zou Daxing, seeing that public interest was not high, played another card.
In 1982 Hong Kong, 1 million Hong Kong dollars was a huge sum, even big-name stars like Ti Lung and Adam Cheng earned this much in a year.
The value of a millionaire was probably no less than that of a multimillionaire in the future!
But this much money was just Wang Zhong's annual consulting fee, which even many industry insiders found shocking!
An annual salary of 1 million was definitely the highest consulting fee in the industry!
However, everyone knew that the 1 million salary was just a gimmick, and no one paid much attention to it.
The relatively quiet entertainment scene in Hong Kong and Taiwan was stirred up again!
But one person took it seriously!
Wang Zhong smiled as he looked at the newspaper in front of him.
"Rulan, contact the best lawyer for me. I need to draft a detailed contract!"
"Boss, I have a classmate named Luo Liya who obtained a Ph.D. from St. John's University in the United States and has a Hong Kong barrister's qualification. He has won several high-profile cases and has gained a good reputation in the industry!"
Rulan immediately thought of a suitable candidate.
"OK, it's him. Please have him come to my office tomorrow morning!"
Wang Zhong did not hesitate. The person Rulan recommended might not be the best, but they were definitely the most suitable.
"Boss, are you going to sue Golden Harvest?"
Rulan asked uncertainly.
"Boss, you can't win this lawsuit. Golden Harvest is clearly trying to use this for publicity. If you sue them, you'll be playing right into their hands!"
"No, no, why would I sue Golden Harvest? They are my major client. I'm hiring a lawyer to draft a detailed service contract to clearly define the rights and obligations!"
Wang Zhong shook his head, looking puzzled.
"Boss, I have to say, you are the most mad and the most confident man I have ever met!"
Rulan looked at Wang Zhong speechlessly and muttered.
"Thank you for the compliment, the coffee today is very good!"
Wang Zhong smiled, pointing to the coffee on the table, and then lowered his head to type on the keyboard.
Due to the impact of the Chen Long and Snake-Hand Incident, Wang Zhong's fortune-telling and feng shui studio had no business at all.
Wang Zhong, who rarely had free time, used this opportunity to complete his second work, "The Legend of the Tang Dynasty's Twin Dragons."
This time, Wang Zhong did not want to simply copy!
He wanted to incorporate some of his unique insights as a martial artist into the original work.
This was something Huang Yi, Jin Tang, Gu Long, and others could not match!
