The next day, Li Huailin really did wake up quite early, actually getting up at six. However, after getting up, Li Huailin didn't rush to play the game. He first went downstairs to have a little breakfast. The breakfast stalls in the 22nd century had basically achieved semi-mechanization, and all the breakfasts tasted pretty much the same, but they were still a bit better than fast food.
After eating, Li Huailin went upstairs. He didn't really have any friends or any place to go, so he was bored and could only play games.
When he passed through the hallway, Li Huailin still noticed the room of his neighbor, Chen Juan. The door was closed, and there was no sound. It was still early, and Li Huailin guessed that she hadn't come home yet, after all, she worked the night shift.
Although he didn't exercise, Li Huailin still habitually took a shower. Then, he took a cup of drink and walked to the computer. He wasn't ready to play the game yet; he wanted to check the official website for updates first.
Sure enough, after a night, the official website had completed its maintenance. This time, the maintenance was mainly focused on the pet system, with a lot of new content introduced. Li Huailin read through all the updates.
First, the pet shops in the main cities were now open. These pet shops were located in the commercial districts of each main city and mainly sold consumable items for pets, such as bandages and potions for pets. Moreover, pet eggs now had to be hatched at the pet shops; they couldn't be hatched by simply clicking on them as before.
However, the pet shops didn't sell pet eggs. Pet eggs still dropped from monsters, but the drop rate was low. The dropped pet eggs didn't specify what kind of pet they contained, only indicating whether they were white, bronze, silver, or gold. Only after hatching could you see what kind of pet it was.
However, the system did provide a way to obtain pet eggs. A new village called the "Pet Home" would appear near each main city. After a long background introduction, Li Huailin learned that this was a faction specifically for pets, including the pet shops.
By completing tasks in this village, players could earn contribution points. These tasks were daily quests that refreshed every day. Players who couldn't get pet eggs through drops could earn contribution points by completing daily quests. Once they accumulated enough points, they could exchange them for a pet egg, ranging from the lowest white to bronze, silver, and gold, and even the highest epic purple. However, the type of pet that would hatch was still uncertain.
"Hmm, like this..." Li Huailin thought. The contribution points were essentially a form of currency. This setup was quite good; otherwise, with the current drop rate of pet eggs, the pet system would be almost useless, as very few people could use it.
Li Huailin then read more about the pets. Bronze-level and above pets could help players in battles, and gold-level and above pets could be ridden once they reached a certain level.
After hatching, pets started at level 1. Players could adjust the experience points (XP) that pets could gain on the pet page. The range was from 0% to 50%. For example, if a player set it to 0%, the pet wouldn't gain any XP. If set to 50%, half of the player's XP would go to the pet.
The most important aspect was the pet's loyalty. After hatching, the pet's initial loyalty was 60 points. Fighting alongside the pet increased loyalty by 1 point every 2 hours. Every 6 hours, the pet would feel hungry, and feeding it once increased loyalty by 1 point. However, feeding a carnivorous pet plant-based food would directly reduce loyalty by 3 points and wouldn't satisfy its hunger. In a state of hunger, the pet would lose 2 loyalty points per hour. If loyalty dropped below 60 points, the pet had a chance to run away, turning into a wild monster of the same level that couldn't be recaptured. If loyalty dropped to 0 points, the pet would definitely run away.
When a pet died, it wouldn't lose XP, but it would lose 10 loyalty points. After death, the pet would recover health at a rate of 1% per second in the pet space, and after 100 seconds, it would be fully healed and ready for battle.
Each player could only carry one bronze-level or higher pet. Pets couldn't be released, but their loyalty could be reduced to 0 points to make them leave. After a pet left, the player would receive a non-removable curse, preventing the pet shop from hatching a new pet for 7 days.
After organizing the information he had, Li Huailin's interest in pets dropped significantly. The main issue was that pets were too difficult to raise, needing to be fed every few hours, which was quite troublesome. However, not having a pet wasn't an option either, as having an additional combat power was a good setup. Li Huailin was a bit conflicted.
"Still, I should get one. After all, I have an advantage in attributes. Maybe I'll complete an amazing quest and get a powerful pet," Li Huailin thought and decided to get a pet first. Whether to raise it would depend on what he got.
"Let's go online and check out the Pet Home first," Li Huailin said, then sat in the game pod and started the game.
The screen went black, and Li Huailin appeared at Mike Colt's house. Before he could steady himself, he heard Hongyan Drink Water's voice.
"Brother-in-law, you're online. I've been waiting for ten minutes," Hongyan Drink Water said happily.
"Hey, why did you wake up so early today?" Li Huailin was surprised. This guy had slept until noon yesterday, but today he was already online at 7.
"I went to bed too early yesterday, so I woke up at 5 and couldn't sleep. I just went online, and the others were still asleep, so I had nothing to do. I just waited for you, Brother-in-law. It's almost 7, and you usually log in around this time," Hongyan Drink Water said.
"Ha ha." Li Huailin smiled, surprised that his routine had been figured out so quickly.
"By the way, Brother-in-law, I checked the official website. The pet system seems really fun. Should we try to get a pet egg today?" Hongyan Drink Water asked cautiously.
"Getting a pet egg requires a lot of luck. Have you ever seen a pet egg in all your playing?" Li Huailin said, "Didn't you read the official website? It mentioned a place called the Pet Home. I think we should go there and see if we can get a pet egg. It's more hopeful than relying on luck."
"You're right, Brother-in-law," Hongyan Drink Water thought for a moment and said.
"Let's go then. I bet there will be a lot of players there soon. We should go early to check it out," Li Huailin said.
"Okay," Hongyan Drink Water nodded.
Of course, neither of them knew where the Pet Home was, but fortunately, the system update didn't leave players in the dark. Li Huailin asked a guard in the main city, and learned that the Pet Home was just a short walk north from the east gate of the main city, not far from the city.
Li Huailin led Hongyan Drink Water in the direction the guard pointed.
