Just after lunch, Hessmann was dozing in his room when Chloe's cheerful voice rang out from outside the door.

"Lenin has arrived! Lenin has arrived!"

Lenin had come to visit the luxurious mountain villa owned by the Braun couple, the German Social Democratic revolutionaries. The villa even had many portraits of German noble officers hanging on its walls, including Chloe von Heinsberg's father, uncles, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather... There were many of them, even including many old men in cuirasses holding swords, all looking very reactionary!

However, Comrade Lenin did not see them, just as he did not see the luxurious decoration of the house or the artworks and antiques inside.

As Hessmann and Chloe walked down the stairs, Lenin stood up from a sofa chair that looked like a work of art and waved at him. "Otto, we meet again!" His enthusiasm was as if Hessmann were an old friend of many years.

Hessmann walked forward and shook Lenin's hand. "Vladimir Ilyich, please sit down." Then he ordered Chloe in a commanding tone, "Eva, go prepare some coffee and pastries."

"Sure." Chloe, who had a bit of acting talent, responded softly, as if she were a virtuous wife, and then turned to the kitchen. Eitel was not at Chloe's villa; he had gone to the embassy in Bern to handle some business. Karl Stockhausen and his men took turns guarding the "telegraph room" and did not show up. Now, in the living room of Chloe's villa, there were only Hessmann and Lenin.

"Otto," Lenin smiled charmingly at Hessmann, "last night, I seriously considered the question you raised—what if the United States enters the war and Germany does not have a revolution."

Hessmann scrutinized the wise forehead of the great mentor and guessed: the mentor must have assumed that his words last night represented the official stance of Germany... Now he was here to express his position! A German-Russian (Soviet) alliance was possible. Unfortunately, the emperor in Berlin did not recognize the severity of the issue; he would not agree to an alliance, otherwise, the Second Empire could still be saved!

"If the United States enters the war at all costs, we can assume that there exist super cartels that transcend national borders and control several capitalist countries simultaneously."

"Yes, they do exist!" Hessmann's tone was very firm—multinational corporations, globalization, and universalism... who didn't know about these things in the future? History textbooks said that the Third World War did not happen because the capitalist countries had a shared prosperity and shared adversity. This was actually the globalization driven by multinational corporations!

"Germany and Russia are both their enemies!" Hessmann continued, "In fact, all late-developing powers will have irreconcilable conflicts with them! Either the late-developing powers submit to these super cartels and adjust their development direction and international positioning according to their wishes, or there will be intense confrontation! The reason the German Empire could rise was because of strong German nationalism, so we cannot submit to them.

Similarly, Russia cannot submit either, because Russia is too vast. Over 20 million square kilometers, over 160 million people... both exceed the total of the British and American homelands. Once they develop, no matter what path they take, they will pose a huge threat to the super cartels based in Britain and America. Unless the Russians agree to let these super cartels dismember their country and nation!"

He was not just talking off the top of his head. After the evil empire called the Soviet Union disintegrated, the West, led by the United States, did not truly accept Russia, which inherited the main legacy of the Soviet Union, and still viewed it as a major threat, regardless of whether it was democratic. The West did not hesitate to suppress it.

And to ensure its survival space and territorial integrity, Russia had to gradually return to the old path of confrontation with the West after the year 2000...

"But the Russians will not submit!" Lenin's tone was calm, "I understand the character of this nation... The reason the Russians have such vast territory is that they want a strong country and are willing to pay a huge price for it!"

"Actually, the people of all late-developing powers have similar character and will!" Hessmann nodded, "We Germans are the same! If... the people of a backward country do not have such character and will, then that country will not develop." He pointed to his head, "They all have a dream of a strong country in their minds!"

"Right! If they don't even have a dream of a strong country, they cannot become strong!" Lenin nodded frequently; he certainly understood the "dream of a strong country." Germany had dreams, Russia had dreams, the emerging power Japan had dreams of a Greater East Asia, and the United States across the Atlantic had dreams of manifest destiny!

And when the dream of a strong country becomes an ideology, state supremacy or nationalism is born. Since modern times, every powerful and developed country has been inseparable from the support of state supremacy or nationalism.

"But the dreams of strong countries often conflict!" Hessmann's tone was solemn, "Sometimes it's a serious conflict! For example, between Germany and Russia, Germany and France... When two late-developing powers engage in a life-and-death war because of their dreams, the super cartel group based in Britain and America can sit back and reap the benefits. The tragedy of Germany and Russia stems from this! To avoid our two countries falling into the same tragedy in the future, we should have a good discussion before we start dreaming!"

Lenin did not answer immediately, and the room fell into a dead silence. The other party's words clearly treated him as the future leader of Russia—this meant that the Germans intended to support him in seizing power in Russia! And they also hoped that he would restore the previous German-Russian alliance after seizing power... Two countries that had fought bitterly for four years and lost millions of lives would suddenly embrace each other! Such a thing might be inconceivable elsewhere, but in Europe, it was commonplace, as long as it was profitable. But where were the common interests between Russia and Germany?

At this moment, Chloe came out with coffee and pastries. Seeing the solemn expressions of the two men in the living room, she did not disturb them but quietly placed the coffee and pastries in front of them and then quietly left. Lenin, lost in thought, hardly noticed her.

After a long time, Lenin finally broke the silence in the room.

"If the Bolsheviks come to power, Russia can give up Poland, abandon its ambitions in the Balkans, and recognize the dominance of the Austro-Hungarian Empire there."

Hessmann nodded; this was a condition he could accept... If he were the German Emperor, he would aim for this and fully implement it, but unfortunately, he was not!

"Then let me talk about Germany's dream of a strong country!" Hessmann said, "We Germans want to dominate Europe, excluding the territories of Russia, Britain, and Turkey. It's domination, not simple and brutal annexation."

Of course, some places could be immediately annexed, such as Austria, Bohemia, and Luxembourg. But in most areas, unification could only be gradually promoted. Hessmann already had a rough outline in mind, of course, referring to the EU of the future, but what he wanted was not a fragmented EU, but an EU with a strong core—the Third German Empire!

Due to the complex history, traditions, culture, and languages of Europe, the situation of many small countries could not be completely changed overnight. Therefore, the only way out Hessmann could think of was a EU dominated by a Greater Germany.

Hessmann spoke deeply and confidently, "Europe (excluding Britain, Russia, and the European part of Turkey) should become a union, led by the German Empire. The union will have a unified foreign policy, a unified armed force, a unified parliament, the same laws, and a unified currency and central bank! People, capital, and goods can flow freely within the European Union.

In the distant future, this European Union will become a completely unified country. It will be the most powerful country in the world, its currency will replace the pound as the world's hard currency, and its major cities will become the dream destinations of outstanding talents worldwide... This is the German dream. Comrade Lenin, do you agree?"

"Good, I agree!" Lenin answered without hesitation.

Hessmann was a bit further from the gallows and a bit closer to the German dream. Of course, this was not Hitler's German dream, but Hessmann's!

Hessmann did not have the deep-seated hatred for the Soviet Union and Slavs that Hitler had, because he knew that Britain and America were the most powerful and threatening opponents. The Soviet Union was a cold quagmire that was hard to extricate oneself from...

If the Third Empire could lead Europe and stabilize the Soviet Union, there would be a chance to bring down Britain and America and become the leader of the capitalist world. At that time, the Soviet Union could do whatever it wanted, eventually becoming the Russian oil and gas company!
