With an additional eightfold, it indeed felt like having a companion by his side. Wang Meng teased the underside of Eightfold’s chin. Normally, a small sparrow demon would obediently enjoy the attention, but Eightfold immediately turned its head, its fiery red beak opening slightly.
"Ah, little one, still shy, huh?" Wang Meng became interested, hugging the fiery red sparrow demon and kissing and petting it. "Eightfold, from now on, we're family. Be affectionate, don't be shy. Ah, are you a female?"
Wang Meng couldn’t tell the gender of the sparrow demon no matter how long he looked. "Come on, let’s see what Eightfold’s true form looks like. It should be better than Fatso’s ball, right?"
Holding Eightfold, he began to channel essence energy. The second level of the Life Mark was more than enough to make a small demon manifest...
But Eightfold showed no reaction, just tilting its head and giving a sidelong glance.
Wang Meng lovingly stroked the small sparrow demon. "Eightfold, it’s okay, don’t be discouraged. Even if you’re the weakest sparrow demon in history, I won’t abandon you. One must have backbone, and a demon must have demon spirit. We’ll work hard together in the future!"
Whether he was encouraging Eightfold or himself, only heaven knew. In any case, Wang Meng didn’t mind. He threw off his sweat-soaked clothes. "Eightfold, stay here. I’m going to take a shower. I’ll take you out for a walk and get some good food later."
Singing a little tune, Wang Meng went to take a shower. He felt that his mood would be good for the next few days, and he found the future challenges exciting.
Just as his figure became slightly slimmer, the somewhat listless Eightfold suddenly became spirited, shaking its fiery red feathers. It was a bit surprised; the essence energy, though pitifully small, was of high quality, allowing it to regain some strength.
Whoosh...
A faint flame sprang from Eightfold’s body, its eyes becoming incredibly sharp. The steel chain on its feet instantly vanished. Glancing at Wang Meng, who was still humming in the bathroom, it broke through the window in an instant.
Whoosh.
Wang Meng rushed out of the bathroom, seeing the empty table, and roared, "Damn it, no humanity, no conscience, stealing an eightfold for forty bucks, you’re really out of your mind!"
Breaking through the window, Wang Meng looked around, but there was no one. He couldn’t help but shout, "Who’s the shameless one stealing my messenger?"
The yard was empty. In a few quick steps, Wang Meng leaped onto the roof. It was like seeing a ghost; how could it be so fast?
There was no one, and he felt something odd on his head. Looking up, he saw Eightfold, covered in flames, flying high.
"Eightfold, Eightfold, Eight..."
Wang Meng felt a bit dizzy. Forty bucks just flew away. This was unprecedented; usually, a tamed small demon had a very low escape rate. He should have beaten it up first.
Wang Meng reluctantly retracted his hand. This was it; he was back to being alone. He thought he had a companion, but oh well, Fatso was still reliable!
"Pervert!"
"Who’s that, why are you naked on the roof, are you crazy?"
Whoosh...
The wind was a bit cold, and Wang Meng realized that although one bird had flown away, another had appeared.
His face turned red, and he quickly hid, the red dot in the sky returning.
Just as Wang Meng was stunned, he felt something envelop him, and he floated away...
"Wang Meng, Wang Meng, wake up, wake up."
Wang Meng opened his eyes again, seeing a round face, the reliable Zhang Xiaopang.
Seeing Wang Meng open his eyes, Zhang Xiaopang sighed in relief. "I was wondering what happened to you. When I came back, I found you naked in the yard, scaring Hu Jing."
Hu Jing was the one Zhang Xiaopang had always had a crush on. Her parents were prominent nobles in Leiguang City, but Hu Jing was straightforward and had a bold personality, getting along well with the two of them.
"Zhang Xiaopang, who’s yours, be careful, or I’ll beat you up!" Hu Jing glared at the fatso.
She then looked at Wang Meng. "I heard you’ve entered the Sword Sect. Such a stroke of luck, what’s bothering you? Also, your body isn’t that great, don’t show it off everywhere."
Wang Meng closed his eyes, feeling his reputation ruined. He couldn’t help but grit his teeth. "You two, keep this to yourselves. If anyone leaks it, I’ll silence you!"
"Hey, where’s Eightfold?"
Thinking about this, Wang Meng twitched. "It ran away while I was showering. That’s why I was naked outside."
"Wang Meng, did you get so sad that you fell and landed naked?" Zhang Xiaopang exaggeratedly opened his mouth.
Bang...
Zhang Xiaopang immediately got a bump on his head, but it wasn’t from Wang Meng; it was Hu Jing who hit him.
"Fatso, watch your mouth. It ran away, so be it. Wang Meng, congratulations on entering the Sword Sect. I’ll give you a messenger."
Hu Jing smiled.
Wang Meng shook his head and got up. Today was really strange. First, he was scolded by a strange old man, and then his messenger ran away. He looked at the broken chain on the table. "What lousy quality, cheap and no good."
"This is to remind you that next time you buy a messenger, you should put it in a demon-taming talisman first."
Wang Meng shrugged, only able to blame his bad luck. Who would waste a demon-taming talisman on a sparrow demon?
"Anyway, we’re all disciples of the Holy Hall now. That’s something worth celebrating!" Zhang Xiaopang was the happiest, nothing could affect him.
Wang Meng nodded. "Hu Jing, congratulations on entering the Talisman Sect. But with your talent, it’s quite normal."
Hu Jing had a natural fifth-level Life Mark, the best among the three, and a calm personality. In Wang Meng’s memory, there seemed to be nothing she couldn’t do.
Actually, the small circle of the three of them seemed strange to many people. Hu Jing, born into a noble family, was a typical example of beauty and intelligence, with a good personality and none of the high-and-mighty airs of other noble women. After her fifth-level Life Mark appeared, she became a prominent figure in Leiguang City. Yet she hung out with the lazy Zhang Xiaopang and the unknown Wang Meng. Zhang Xiaopang’s family had some money but wasn’t prominent, with a fourth-level Life Mark, good talent, but his physique and personality would waste any talent.
As for Wang Meng, he wasn’t entirely unknown, but mostly for fighting and brawling. The three should have been parallel lines, but they intersected and became friends.
"Practicing the way, talent alone isn’t enough. There are many with good talent. Wang Meng, I think you still have a great chance. The elders of the Sword Sect have good eyes."
Hu Jing said, more to encourage Wang Meng than to celebrate. A second-level Life Mark wasn’t much of a talent.
"Hu Jing, what about me? Do I have a bright future too?" Zhang Xiaopang smiled.
"You, if you work hard, you still have a chance."
"Haha, I told you I’m a genius. Just wait and see me sweep through the Arrow Sect and make a name for myself!"
