The girl’s hand was soft and delicate, and when she exerted herself to clasp his palm, the temperature and touch were transmitted directly to the palm of his hand. Ye Shen felt like he was squeezing a piece of tofu.
As soon as he used some strength, that lump of tofu would immediately break into pieces inside his palm.
Just like last night when he picked her up by the waist, she was slim enough to be held with one hand.
Ye Shen’s pitch-black eyes slightly narrowed and behind him came the sound of anxiously walking and stumbling steps.
He suddenly jerked his hand away and took a step backward.
The sleepy Xiao Youning suddenly lost the hand she was grasping and tried to grab it again but grasped at air. Yuan Guo had already walked to her bedside and hurried to set aside the basin she held to go and grab her little mistress’s hand.
“Miss, MIss!”
Yuan Guo filled in his position and Xiao Youning seemed to find a sense of security, tightly gripping those hands and not letting go, her restlessness again changing into murmuring.
Ye Shen’s half-lidded eyes swept over Yuan Guo and withdrew from the screen behind the room.
About two-quarters of an hour later, Jian Yin brought three doctors over. All the doctors inside the county town had been invited by him.
Among those three doctors, there was also the one who prescribed the medicine for the first time. The three of them were gathered around the bedside. If adding all of their age together it would tally over a hundred years between them, and yet one watched the other, unable to come up with a solution.
“I truly am sorry. I only have that prescription and it’s the most correct diagnosis.”
The doctor that had arrived cupped his hands in a salute and took his leave.
The other two people competed to speak first that they also didn’t have any method. They simultaneously left.
Jian Yin wanted to block their path but couldn’t and his complexion became extremely bad. He helplessly said to Ye Shen, “This is a small county and only these four people are the best in performing the art of healing. They’re all unwilling to treat this illness and I’m afraid that no one else will dare come.”
The man standing at the door eavesdropping on them turned around and ran down to say a few words with the shopkeeper. Soon, the shopkeeper personally came with a few people in tow and said, with difficulty, “Customer, you have someone seriously ill here. A doctor was also requested over… We are business people, have to avoid taboos, you see…”
They go back and forth here and there inviting doctors, several people in a row, but they don’t dare to save, and certainly can alarm others.
The shopkeeper meant that they couldn’t be allowed to stay there. Which inn could accept someone about to die!
In the future, who would even want to stay here?
When Ye Shen heard the shopkeeper driving them away, his face immediately sank. He was already a man who looked sharp. When his face sank it became very threatening.
The shopkeeper cringed at his cold-eyed gaze, but he didn’t give in. “Sir, please have mercy on my small business…”
The clanging sound of a long sword being unsheathed, then Jian Yin’s
ice-cold edge of the sword being placed against the shopkeeper’s neck scared the man directly to his knees.
“S-sir…” The shopkeeper was so scared he almost wetted his pants, his entire body shaking.
“You go and lower the temperature of your family’s young lady as I told you to and come downstairs in a quarter of an hour.”
Ye Shen didn’t even glance at the shopkeeper begging for forgiveness and crossed over him to go out of the room.
When Jian Yin saw him leave, he withdrew his sword with a snort, sheathed it with a flourish, and followed his Fifth Master out.
“Harness a carriage. If you drive for a whole day without rest you’ll get to the prefecture’s capital.”
Since the doctors here couldn’t cure it, it was pointless to spend time here.
Yuanguo wiped Xiao Youning’s body three times with tears coursing down her face, helped her get dressed, and carried her downstairs, only to find out that Ye Shen actually wanted them to rush to the prefecture’s capital.
Yuan Guo was so grateful that she thanked him again and again, and just as she was about to sit in the carriage, Ye Shen faintly said, “Get out.”
“Huh?” A thankful Yuan Guo froze there.
Jian Yin slipped a hand inside her back lapel and dragged her right out, saying, “Our master doesn’t like people riding with him.”
“But my family’s Miss…!” With the fever still present, if she was not inside, how would she take care of her miss?!
The corner of Jian Yin’s mouth rose. Oh, so there was still someone inside.
But according to him, this person when compared to other people should be different… He could only glare at Yuan Guo and warn her. “If there is something wrong, our master will call for you, but if he doesn’t call you, you should stay outside!”
Yuan Guo wanted to say something else, but Jian Yin flicked the horsewhip and she was afraid of being thrown off, so she could only hold the shaft and sit down, frequently looking back at the carriage.
In the carriage, Ye Shen leaned to one side with an indifferent face and stared at the sleeping Xiao Youning.
Xiao Youning at that moment seemed to restlessly reach out for something again. He hesitated, turned his head, but his hand nevertheless stretched forward.
There was a snap.
The fine and soft hand was not stuffed into his palm, but rather the back of his hand was stinging.
His hand was slapped away by Xiao Youning.
Ye Shen turned his head sharply to look at her, and she unknowingly rolled over, curled up in a ball with her arms around herself, and continued mumbling something drowsily.
Ye Shen’s temples pulsed heavily.
The author has something to say:
Ye Shen: My goodness…
Xiao Youning: Why are you laughing so terribly!
