Chapter 5

Having said this much, I believe you can understand how dire the situation is for an explorer who has obtained a merchant-related job.

Even though I knew this, I had a good reason for not honestly revealing my job and, instead, pretending to be a profession that would be seen as a potential criminal just by being named.

The reason is that I did not doubt the memory that suddenly flooded my mind, of being detained by the guild after honestly reporting my job.

You might think that there would be no need to pretend to be a merchant, but there are circumstances that make it unavoidable.

It's not a serious matter. Simply put, I can only pretend to have a job other than merchant at this moment.

To begin with, I am a new student who was led by a teacher into the dungeon for the first time.

The teachers leading us also serve as guild staff, and they are dispatched to ensure the safety of the students and to know the jobs they have obtained.

Therefore, they always verify the jobs each student has obtained.

The method of verification is not by the student's self-report, but by checking their skills.

For a swordsman, it's [Sword Strike]

For a monk, it's [Fist Strike]

For a fire mage, it's [Fire Magic]

For a scout, it's [Scouting]

For a merchant, it's [Item Box]

Since the initial skill is predetermined, the job can be identified by observing the skill.

Incidentally, it seems that in the past, verification was done through appraisal, but due to privacy concerns, it faced strong opposition from some parents and the current method was adopted.

Moreover, explorers who are caught appraising others without permission or secretly are treated as criminals—punished, not just penalized—so there are no merchants who would respond to guild requests.

Even if there were people like the military or police who might do it, they wouldn't have the time to appraise a mere student.

In other words, if I can deceive the teacher who is about to come and verify, I can act as a student who has obtained the job of a traveling merchant.

This brings us back to the question of why I am pretending to be a traveling merchant... The initial skill of a traveler, [Room], looks very similar to [Item Box]—to be precise, [Item Box] is the only skill that looks similar—so even if I claimed to have a different job, I wouldn't be believed.

I chose the traveling merchant from among the various merchant jobs simply to make my future actions easier.

Among merchants, if I pretended to be a weapon merchant, whose STR increases, or an armorer, whose DEF increases, I might be relied upon as a front-liner when forming a party with real merchants.

While I don't deny the efforts of those who have banded together to survive despite being ostracized, I don't want to be part of such a group.

Therefore, I chose the traveling merchant, whose level-up bonus is in SPD, making it unsuitable for both front-liner and back-liner roles.

While I can only say "I'm sorry" to those who have obtained the job of a traveling merchant, which is considered the least useful among merchants, I am using this bad reputation to my advantage.

In fact, most of the people who were eagerly listening to my job talk have lost interest, and those who obtained merchant-related jobs and were feeling down are looking at me with pity. I can say that my plan has succeeded.

All that's left is to deceive the homeroom teacher, and this situation will be over.

Verification and experimentation of abilities can be done after returning to the dorm room.

This is the reason I deliberately pretended to be a merchant, specifically a traveling merchant.

Now, let me reveal the actual performance of the traveler job I obtained.

First, the stat increases are as follows:

STR (Attack Power) ... 10

DEF (Defense) ... 10

VIT (Health) ... 10

MEN (Mental) ... 10

SPD (Agility) ... 10

DEX (Dexterity) ... 10

MAG (Magic Attack) ... 10

REG (Magic Defense) ... 10

All 10. Total 80.

With a +1 bonus to three random stats, the actual total increase is 83.

The staff member who first verified my job apparently called it a "cheat beyond cheats," and I can only agree.

A versatile job that can handle any role, whether front-liner, back-liner, or support.

Furthermore, the [Room] skill, which is more convenient and versatile than an [Item Box], makes it far superior to a merchant.

Moreover, I didn't know this at the time, but the traveler job is a unique job that no one has ever obtained since the dungeons were created.

It's no wonder that the guild researchers were eager to analyze it.

I am grateful to the guild president and the guild knights at the time for preventing me from being dissected or dissected, saying that there was no proof of reproducibility.

However, I have no intention of honestly reporting it, as I cannot forgive them for brainwashing me to work like a horse, monopolizing the profits I generated, giving me free tickets instead of rewards, and calling me a "free ticket person" behind my back.

In fact, if it were reproducible, I would have been dissected.

The guild is really a piece of shit!

That said, I don't hate them. I have my thoughts, but I don't hate them.

I just have no intention of working for them.

... Using my power for my own benefit.

Before, I couldn't even do such a basic thing.

But this time, it's different.

I will make the most of the knowledge and experience in my memory and do what I want to do!

My immediate goal is to earn money and graduate from being a "free ticket person"!
