Li Changhe, wearing his homemade exorcism gloves, recalled the information bought from Pan Ke.
The second teaching building of the old campus, one of the sites where the paranormal incidents occurred.
In room 303 on the third floor of the second teaching building, a teacher and three female students once hanged themselves.
The police at the time could not find the murderer and could only conclude it as a suicide.
This also became the main reason for the old campus being abandoned, as it was too eerie.
Li Changhe pondered over the clues in the information, while his hands were not idle, taking out a flashlight from the [Player Backpack]. To prevent sudden mission triggers and being caught off guard, Li Changhe had packed quite a few things in the [Player Backpack].
A wolf-eye flashlight was a must-have. The light swept through the dark corridor, guiding Li Changhe to the route upstairs.
Choosing this [Mission Location] was also intentional, as Li Changhe was only at level 1. His basic attributes were only randomly boosted by one point in physique, and he was still unsure how it compared to an ordinary person.
The only advantage he had was the [Bloody Shot Put] and the homemade 'Exorcism Gloves.' The former had a note from [Evolution Game], stating an increased damage to paranormal and fantasy creatures.
The latter was Li Changhe's homemade exorcism weapon, which should also be effective, given his Buddhist and Taoist training.
Compared to the [Art Gallery] with unknown details and the [Basement] that made workers disappear, this place was clearly more manageable with these two pieces of equipment.
The [Art Gallery] had no clues, so Li Changhe didn't think much about it. No clues meant the unknown, and he didn't want to rashly enter and encounter something like Behemoth.
The [Basement] made strong workers disappear, so Li Changhe wouldn't dare to try. He was definitely not as strong as three workers. Whatever could kill three workers could easily kill him too.
After much thought, this place seemed the safest. Even if there were ghosts, he could use his equipment to counter them.
As he thought, Li Changhe had already reached the third floor. To his surprise, he saw another player's... buttocks.
Earth Knight!
Although Earth Knight had only entered the academy a few minutes before Li Changhe, he was now crouching on the ground, retreating slowly like a thief.
Sensing the light behind him, Earth Knight turned and growled, "Back off! Show your badge!" At the same time, his [Player Badge] flashed above his head.
Li Changhe naturally complied. During the [Mission], [Players] needed to help each other to avoid reducing their limited combat power.
Showing the badge was to identify each other, to ensure that teammates had not been replaced by those eerie things. The [Player Badge] was visible only to [Players] and was the only way to verify identity.
After saying this, Earth Knight didn't say more and continued to retreat slowly, as if there was something dangerous in front of him.
Li Changhe also held his breath, watching Earth Knight's front vigilantly. If there was any movement, he could at least run faster. He wouldn't test his exorcism gloves against something that even a level 4 player had to be cautious about.
Finally, Earth Knight retreated to Li Changhe's side and sat down to catch his breath.
He also removed his face mask. Li Changhe's pupils constricted; the mask was full of... a woman's hair. Black strands wrapped around Earth Knight's neck as if they had a life of their own.
It seemed very dangerous, dangerous enough for Earth Knight to reveal his face. His usually handsome face was now flushed. He took a few deep breaths to regain his composure.
"If I didn't have 8 points in physique, I would have been strangled to death!" The knight's full-body armor began to disappear, revealing the tight-fitting clothes underneath, which he had stored in the [Player Backpack].
The hair on his body gradually lost its vitality and fell limp. At first glance, he looked like a primitive hairy man.
Li Changhe didn't just watch; he stepped forward and helped pull off the eerie strands of hair.
"What happened?" Li Changhe asked, trying to keep his voice low and hoarse.
"Don't bother with the low voice; it's unnecessary. I'm not from Yan Yun, and I'm not interested in other [Players'] identities," Earth Knight said, feeling helpless at Li Changhe's cautiousness. "I was teleported to the rooftop of this building. Knowing that room 303 on the third floor was the mission point, I came down. I even took out the armor blessed by Vatican priests for this mission, thinking it would be useful. But I got caught after just a few steps. Homemade equipment is useless! I'll have to wait until level 5 when the [Forge] unlocks to synthesize something."
Hearing this, Li Changhe silently cursed, nonchalantly putting his exorcism gloves into the [Player Backpack] and noting that the [Title] and [Forge] would unlock at level 5.
He then asked in a low voice, "Is the danger at this mission point just the hair? Why were you crawling backward?"
"The hair is just part of it. As I walked, I felt something was wrong with the armor. I don't know how it appeared, but it converges toward room 303. If I faced away from the room, I would be strangled quickly," Earth Knight rubbed his red and swollen neck and shook his head. "In that situation, completing the mission was out of the question. I could barely get close. I had to retreat and wait for a teammate or think of a way."
Earth Knight spoke casually, but the situation was very dangerous.
If someone with poor mental fortitude encountered danger and turned to run, they might be strangled by the hair.
Indeed, there were no ordinary players among the higher-level ones, especially those who had experienced multiple missions. Their mental fortitude and strength were not to be underestimated.
As for those with poor mental fortitude, they might not survive their first mission.
"Did the hair appear out of nowhere, or did it drill into your neck?" Li Changhe asked in a low voice.
"I don't have a magic eye or any eye enhancement skills, so I didn't notice. But I suspect it drilled in. At our current level, which is less than 10, we shouldn't encounter high-level ghosts that can materialize out of nowhere," Earth Knight analyzed.
"Let's try it then." Li Changhe muttered, taking a short knife from the [Player Backpack]. He pressed the blade tightly against the back of his neck and walked toward room 303.
Earth Knight also took out two steel knives and watched Li Changhe's back vigilantly.
In just a few steps, Li Changhe's eyes narrowed. He used the skill [Eagle Eye lv1].
The originally dark corridor suddenly became much clearer. This wasn't because the light had suddenly increased, but because his retina could capture more light reflections.
Li Changhe saw black objects flowing out of the walls around room 303. At the same time, he felt something thread-like wrapping around his neck.
The blade pressed against his neck also gave a sensation of cutting through something. No wonder Earth Knight didn't notice; the dark corridor and the black hair wrapping from the sides made it hard to see without [Eagle Eye].
"Right, as we get closer to 303, the hair will drill out of the walls and wrap around our necks." Li Changhe quickly retreated and shouted, "Then attack the walls!"
Earth Knight, who was already prepared, used his skill.
