After finishing the meal, the servants rushed upstairs. After confirming that everyone had gone up, Anastasia took the bowl and spoon that she had been using and headed to the sink.
Fortunately, there was no one in the kitchen, as the kitchen staff also went to get the ingredients from the warehouse.
The stairs Anastasia used were the stairs of the servants that were made to move without being seen by the masters. Anastasia hurriedly climbed the stairs, dragging her feet, and opened the back door and went out.
The morning fog was gradually clearing as the morning sun poured in.
I must hurry.
Feeling the morning air getting warmer, Anastasia moved in a hurry. When the servants happened to see her, it was for her minor mistakes that made them openly sneered at her strange walking. But none of them noticed that the shoes under her skirt were much larger than her feet. .
Haha! Haha!
After arriving in the forest beyond the back of the mansion with strenuous steps, Anastasia barely stopped walking and wiped the sweat from her forehead. After taking a moment to breathe, she entered the forest without hesitation. Although she had not walked for a while, she was obscured by the trees, and the appearance of the mansion disappeared.
Huuu..
Then Anastasia took off her hat and looked up. The morning sun shone through the leaves, scattering fragments of light throughout the forest path. Anastasia took off her shoes and put them in her hands.
I only had a pair of shoes left, so I had to wear them sparingly. With her hat and shoes in her arms, Anastasia headed where she had always been. The fallen leaves that had dried up over the winter made a rustling sound under her feet.
Normally, I would have walked while looking at the sky or looking at the newly bloomed flowers, but today I couldn’t.
A new owner of the mansion is coming.
The servant’s words from the kitchen lingered in Anastasia’s mind. The servant who had carefully uttered those words continued to say what he had heard.
The servant said that the new owner was a ‘Profit or Loss’ type of person. So they could possibly fire all of the Edenhurst employees. However would spare the ones that the Countess would take control of. But Anastasia knew that the Countess would never include herself in such work.
How will I..
The arms that hugged the shoes and the hat were strained. Even though I wore many layers of clothes, my body felt cold.
Anastasia thought of the people in Edenhurst one by one. None of those who remained were not needed. Even a dog tied up in front of the stable. With all the people and animals that exist in Edenhurst, the most unnecessary existence was me, the snake-like bitch!
Anastasia clasped her cheek, recalling the old countess’ roar that she had heard a long time ago. The last time I was hit was a long time ago, but I still felt a tingling sensation in my cheek. It’s not that I resented the Countess. But I understood the reason why I was hated.
There were times when she resented her for a while when she was young, but Anastasia got to know her after coming to Edenhurst, where she was exposed to a wider world and more people. She wondered why no one didn’t like anyone like herself*. She wondered why she was brought to the County.
(*T/N: She refers to herself. The Countess hates people like Anastasia.)
And Anastasia’s body trembled as she recalled the past. Eventually she stopped her steps and sat down by a flowing stream near her.
I put my hat and shoes aside, and put my hand into the stream, and I felt a chilling sensation. Still, it was spring. Where can water flow in the forest and be washed with that water? In winter, I couldn’t wash outside, so after the servants had washed, I had to sneak into the bathroom at night and rush to wash with cold water.
Anastasia, who washed her face and arms and legs thoroughly with the stream, sat on the fallen leaves, waited for her body to dry and looked up to the sky thinking about all of the worries she was thinking about previously.
I might have to leave Edenhurst.
Just thinking about it made her have goosebumps and feel exhausted. Anastasia never imagined leaving this beautiful land.
Even if the Countess hated me, even if Elizabeth, the Count’s first daughter, treated her like an invisible person, I wanted to stay here. Wasn’t this the paradise she had always longed for?
The only world Anastasia knew was the barren village of Edenhurst and her childhood. She couldn’t imagine anywhere else and she hated it, and she remembered the words of Catherine, the count’s second daughter.
“Unfortunately. You’d be dead already if you weren’t in Edenhurst. How could an ignorant idiot like you go out and survive? You’re lucky if you don’t end up in a bad place or starve to death within a few days. Just take this.”
Knowing that Anastasia still knew neither letters nor numbers, and had no charm, Catherine sighed in annoyance and gave her a pair of shoes that were too small for me to wear. These were the shoes Anastasia had next to her now.
It wasn’t just Catherine’s words. The servants also said that there is no better place in the world than Edenhurst. Anastasia looked around the forest. The servants must be right. Where else in the world can there be such a beautiful place?
I wouldn’t dare to ask for a room in the mansion, so if I could hide myself at the edge of this paradise and just keep breathing, why don’t I just hide when I don’t want anything more?
Edenhurst is a vast land. Besides, the forest where she spends most of his time has become a place where no one but Anastasia can enter because the Countess has fired the forest keeper after the Count’s death. So, if she hides here, no one will find her. I haven’t met anyone in the forest for several years.
Anastasia’s shoulders, who were happy for a moment thinking that she had found a better way, immediately drooped.
You can live in the forest until spring, summer and autumn. But can you live in the forest even in winter?
impossible. No matter how Edenhurst is, she can’t spend the winter outside.
While Anastasia was contemplating, her body dried up to some extent. Slowly she got up from her spot to return to her original place, put on her hat and tried to pick up her shoes. But at that moment.
Rustle.
There was the sound of leaves being trampled on from a distance. Surprised, Anastasia looked behind her. The man she saw for the first time stood staring at her.
Ah
Her feet were so stiff that she couldn’t move. Anastasia looked at the strange man who suddenly appeared, frozen.
The short, cut platinum hair was neat and the face was also pretty to look at. Eyes that drew delicate lines through his hair swaying slightly in the wind wrapped around his dark blue eyes. The sharp-pointed eyes made her impression of him shiver, but Anastasia thought it suited him quite well.
The jawline on his face may have been sharp, but the line drawing the body from the chin to the neck was thick and noticeable. Everyone could see that the body underneath, wrapped in an expensive suit, was very wide and hard.
Ironically, Anastasia looked at him and thought he was beautiful. Until now, there was only one thing that seemed beautiful to her which was Edenhurst, and for the first time she had seen something comparable.
As Anastasia was staring at the man, forgetting even her situation, he opened his mouth.
“Who are you?”
A deep low tone mixed with the sound of leaves swaying in the wind. His voice was so deep and heavy that it was impossible to think that it was associated with a delicate face. However, the gap made the man’s presence even deeper.
Anastasia’s fingertips tingled and her body trembled. How long has it been since someone spoke to you? But this feeling wasn’t just because of talking to him. Then why the hell?
Then Anastasia realized. The fact that he was looking at her just as he looked at her. From the beginning, His blue eyes looked straight at me. And in his eyes, was filled only with curiosity, not the disgust and hatred others had shown her.
Anastasia realized at that strange glance. What situation am I in now?
Her eyes fluttered wildly as she quickly avoided the man’s gaze. The man who noticed Anastasia’s agitation opened his mouth again.
“There’s nothing to be afraid of. I just wanted to ask where the Edenhurst mansion is.”
In response to the man’s question, Anastasia did not raise her head, but raised her hand laboriously and pointed to the side of the mansion.
A Mansion in the Distance.
I could’ve told you to go over there. But It’s been a long time since I’ve talked to someone other than talking to myself, so the words didn’t come out properly. Then suddenly a man moved his body. It was just a step forward, but as he staggered over with his long legs, he suddenly found himself standing right in front of Anastasia.
“Why don’t you take that hat off for a moment?”
The man said so and stretched out his hand towards Anastasia. At that moment, a high-pitched scream echoed through the forest. While the startled man hesitated, Anastasia turned around and ran into the woods.
She heard his voice calling her from behind her, but Anastasia did not turn back.
