How much time had passed?
Raven didn’t know; his consciousness was gradually fading, and his body had long since become numb from the intense pain.
Even though he had managed to cross over, there were countless things he wanted to do, like the stars in the sky. For example, he wanted to ignite his own divine flame in this life and achieve divinity. Of course, what he most wanted to do was to flog and beat the bastard god of murder, Cyric, ten thousand times.
Unfortunately, if he were to die here, all of that would be just empty talk.
Even though he hadn’t tried it, Raven knew that in this world, there was no such thing as resurrection on the spot. The god of death wouldn’t let any soul slip through his fingers.
"Tap, tap, tap, tap..." From vague to clear, footsteps came from the distance.
Not long after, the sound of glassware being placed on a small table by the air vent could be heard.
Raven knew this was the life-giving holy water he had longed for.
Peering through the air vent, the vibrant green, full of vitality, was so clear even in his blurred vision.
Raven swore he would remember this color for the rest of his life.
Time was running out, and Raven gritted his teeth, waiting for the servant to leave.
Finally, the servant left, and Raven, with his last bit of strength, tightly gripped the bars of the air vent and greedily extended his trembling arm...
He had the holy water in his hands!
Raven had drunk the life-giving holy water countless times in the game, but he had never been so eager as he was now.
The sweetness, the purity, the scent of fresh grass continuously stimulated Raven’s taste buds...
Ah! Jackpot! This is the No. 5 holy water!
This stuff was still very useful even at the gold level, over 60!
Raven drank it in large gulps, like a newborn baby sucking on its mother’s milk.
Unable to confirm if the other bottles were also No. 5, Raven decided to split it in half. After drinking half a bottle, he immediately passed the remaining half mouth-to-mouth to the unconscious Karin.
Soon, the first bottle was empty.
Raven reached out and took the second bottle, repeating the process. This one was also No. 5... After some thought, Raven drank a third, fed another third to Karin, and finally applied the last of the holy water to Karin’s face. Before long, the eye that had been damaged by that guy was rapidly regenerating.
Not only Karin, but his abdomen was also convulsing violently. The divine power of the goddess of life was vigorously expelling the acid from his body, and his damaged internal organs were regenerating. His blurred vision was also becoming clear again.
At the same time, Raven could clearly feel the putrid smell of rotting vegetables gushing from his wounds.
Instinctively, as a god-level assassin, Raven immediately used the glass bottle that had contained the holy water to catch the acid. As an assassin, poisoning was a required skill. Although he hadn’t thought of how to use this acid yet, it would surely come in handy.
While feeling the changes in his body, Raven kept an eye on the bottle. When the divine power of the holy water completely neutralized the damage from the "Tooth of Corruption" and even restored his health to full, the acid was also fully collected.
"Ching!" A sound like a hallucination, the familiar and adorable system prompt came.
"You have successfully dispelled the 'Tooth of Corruption' from the 'Black Erosion Fanatic'!"
"You have obtained the personal skill 'Weak Acid Resistance'!"
"You have discovered a special scenario - the Luxurious Gift of the Goddess of Wealth, and gained 300 general experience points."
"You have been reborn in the darkness and obtained information about the shadow energy bar."
Raven immediately allocated all the general experience points to the commoner class, making him a 10th-level commoner with a maximum health of 27.
Next was the shadow energy.
Shadow energy was the true symbol of entry for all rogue class practitioners. No matter how many skills he had learned before, they were still within the realm of ordinary people. Skills like "Shadow Jump," which allowed one to leap through the shadow plane to stab enemies from behind, could only be performed with shadow energy.
In the past, Raven had to endure until he reached level 12 as a wanderer, and only then, after being imprisoned in a dark water dungeon, did he receive the prompt to activate the shadow energy bar in that pitch-black darkness. In theory, as long as there was enough shadow energy, all related skills could be used without limit.
Mentioning shadow energy, one couldn’t avoid talking about Raven’s former big boss, the god of murder and death, Cyric. According to the game’s plot, in another year, Cyric would take the "Shadow" domain from the god of thieves.
A domain was the jurisdiction of a deity.
In the game, the most convenient and practical way to activate shadow energy was to find a place to sense the existence of shadow energy and then worship the god of thieves at the god’s temple, thereby obtaining skills related to shadow energy.
Now, Raven didn’t want to do this at all. The consequence of doing so was that all the shadow skills he obtained would be simplified versions under the "Shadow" domain. This meant that if he ever opposed Cyric, who would obtain the "Shadow" domain, he wouldn’t be able to use any shadow-related skills.
Think about it, the skills were Cyric’s, and the shadow energy required to use the skills was also Cyric’s. Would he be so stupid as to let you use his power to hit him?
So, there was only one choice left: to bypass the god of thieves and independently master the use of shadow energy from the shadow plane.
Only by doing this could he maximize his ability to use shadow energy to oppose Cyric.
Of course, if he could prevent Cyric from obtaining the "Shadow" domain in this world, that would be even better.
If he could, Raven wouldn’t want to target Cyric like this. Unfortunately, as a player, there was nothing more disgusting than having a trashy boss.
Cyric was a madman, biting anyone he saw, claiming to be the only supreme god. Although he was very strong, he was far from deserving the title of "supreme." He was almost at odds with all the deities and had never had an ally. Even if he had a temporary teammate, his highest mission was to betray them.
What was most unacceptable was his madness and paranoia: he would sometimes even give completely contradictory divine commands to his priests, making them murder each other.
Raven had been his best enforcer, rising to the rank of a saint, and even after handing over all the divinity and divine ranks he had gathered, he still fell because of his mad boss’s betrayal.
After all, divinity and divine ranks were extremely valuable.
Divinity, to some extent, was the unique characteristic of a deity. For a god, divinity was related to their personality, beliefs, principles, and factional tendencies. Mortals could gain increased lifespan, increased resistance, and a series of extraordinary abilities by absorbing divinity.
Divine ranks could increase the total divine power.
Even after handing over all the divinity and divine ranks, he still couldn’t get a guarantee of safety and was betrayed mercilessly.
How could he swallow this?
"Damn Cyric. Forget it, the matters of deities are too far from me now. First, I need to think about how to deal with the Black Erosion..."
Just as Raven was cursing in his heart, the system suddenly "ching" again.
"Main quest released [To Be a Boss or a Lackey, That Is the Question!]: Life is a continuous process of making choices, and every choice will affect your life in return. Young man, you’ve been bullied enough. Your opponent is a massive organization that can crush you with a single finger. What are you going to do now? Depending on your choice and performance, there will be different rewards!"
In an instant, Raven felt he was being teased by the system.
This quest was extremely vague, and he didn’t even know what the rewards were.
Of course, with simple reasoning, it could be deduced that the worst outcome would be to endure and pretend nothing happened.
Raven remembered that in the game, the Black Erosion Church was a medium-sized church with a few hundred members, a behemoth in the beginner area, far beyond the capabilities of a level 1 assassin.
It was simple: if you killed a Black Erosion believer and left any trace, the hatred would become permanent, and the entire church would hunt you down in the beginner area. Even more annoying was the game’s necessary but frustrating setting: NPCs would respawn every 2 hours!
In other words, unless you were a super expert and could kill all the believers and priests in one go, you would be forever troubled by the Black Erosion Church.
Now that he had crossed over, wouldn’t there be no more respawning? Wouldn’t there be a chance?
What was a god-level assassin? A god-level assassin killed not people, but loneliness!

How many times had he performed极限刺杀红名怪, and how many times had he risked his life to challenge bosses alone? What was the point?
Wasn’t it to prove that he could do what others couldn’t!
Unconsciously, Raven began to plan how to level up while clearing out the entire Black Erosion Church. In his plan, clearing out the ordinary believers was no problem, but the issue was the guardian knights of the Black Erosion Church. He remembered that one of the loyal knights seemed to be very powerful...
Raven’s thoughts were interrupted by an unexpected disturbance.
Footsteps came from the distance, and the servant who had left earlier was returning.
After drinking the second bottle of holy water, he and Karin’s fatal injuries were treated, but their wounds were not fully healed yet. The third bottle in his hand was No. 7, and reaching out for more might not be in time.
Clearly, the remaining holy water was not enough for both of them.
Gritting his teeth, Raven applied all the holy water to Karin’s face. The cost was a large scar on his abdomen, while the shallow scar from her left eyebrow to her left cheek on Karin’s beautiful face completely disappeared.
Karin, who had been in a daze due to the healing, woke up as the pain disappeared. Instinctively, she touched her wound and then, before Raven could stop her, touched his wound.
She realized what had happened, and tears silently streamed down her face.
“Karin... it’s okay. Isn’t it said that scars are a man’s badge of honor? It’s no big deal,” Raven tried to comfort her with a dry voice. The more he spoke, the more Karin cried.
Karin gently held Raven’s hand, and despite the tears, her face broke into a radiant smile: “Brother, you’re so mean. How can I possibly marry anyone else now!”
“How can’t you? Your face is completely healed, isn’t it?”
“Pfft,” Karin laughed even more, and with her dark vision, Raven could clearly feel her radiant beauty. At just 13, she was a typical beauty in the making. What would she be like when she grew up?
“Brother, you’re such a blockhead!”
Just as Raven was about to say something, the footsteps grew closer.
Karin looked at the empty bottles in Raven’s hand and suddenly realized they had stolen all the holy water and would be discovered. Her blue eyes widened with anxiety: “What do we do?”
Karin could imagine that once they were discovered, they would face the wrath of the Church of Wealth.
Worse, a cat that seemed to have noticed them was approaching the air vent.
Would they be discovered?
