The things taught by the Church of Wealth, if done by an outsider, are a death sentence.
If done by an expert, it's like stealing the sky and replacing the sun.
In his previous life, before becoming an assassin, Leiwen was a wanderer. Stealing things was his old trade.
The attributes of an ordinary adult male are all 10. Leiwen's 17 agility might not allow him to easily run along the eaves, but leaping over a two-meter-high wall was very easy for him.
First, Leiwen leisurely poured the acid from his [Corrosive Fang] onto the spikes of the wall.
The acid from [Corrosive Fang] is hard to corrode glass, but it easily dissolves lime on the wall. The base of the glass shards was quickly softened by the acid.
Leiwen easily plucked his target, a black crystal shard composed of two elongated rhombuses, one large and one small.
The first thing he saw was a string of attribute data:
Item Name: Obsidian Spike [+1]
Type: Dagger
Weight: 1.7 kg
Item Level: [Black Iron Tier Rare Equipment]
Damage: 8-10 points
Item Description: This is a weapon with a miraculous history. Its former owner was an elven slave who, with this dagger made of obsidian, miraculously escaped from hell and returned to the Aotu Continent. The blade has been stained with the blood of demons, and the whispers of tormented souls make one shudder. This dagger was crafted from limited materials, with no forging, only the most primitive hammering. Despite this, the dagger retains the sharp and strong characteristics of obsidian.
Equipment Requirement: 10 Strength or more.
Equipment Effect: Hardness, Sharpness, +1 Sharpness, +2 Penetration, +1 Hardness, +3 Armor Piercing.
Weapon Special Effect: [Silence], when this weapon pierces the body of a weak enemy with a maximum HP below 50 points, there is an 80% chance to create a silence effect within a one-meter radius around the enemy for 5 seconds. This effect, which does not generate arcane fluctuations, is considered a natural effect.
Weapon Feature: [Sharpness], this weapon has a chance to permanently damage any Black Iron Tier armor during combat.
This Obsidian Spike is a godly item for novice thieves. Despite being a dagger, it has the attack power of a whiteboard axe, and the series of special effects are something many Bronze Tier weapons don't have. The most insane part is the [Silence], which is absolutely essential for home invasions, murders, and arson!
"You can shout! But no one will hear you even if you shout until your throat is hoarse." This classic line fits perfectly here.
The only drawback of the Obsidian Spike is that it is too heavy for a dagger.
In fact, if Leiwen hadn't taken this Obsidian Spike, according to the game's history, this godly item for beginners would have been discovered a month later. The first person to get this dagger was someone from Black Erosion.
Recalling this, Leiwen shuddered: Damn! If the guy from Black Erosion had taken the dagger, wouldn't I be unable to take revenge until I reach level 20, Bronze Tier? By the time I reach Bronze Tier, Black Erosion might already be wiped out, leaving not even a blade of grass.
Returning to Karin's side, Karin smiled with surprise.
"Did you get it done?"
"Halfway there. Let's call it a night and go to sleep."
In the still chilly March, the two of them cuddled and fell asleep.
In her sleep, Karin accidentally touched Leiwen's new dagger. Her body trembled slightly, but she said nothing and fell back asleep.
The next morning, Leiwen disguised himself as a middle-aged wanderer and went to the Adventurer's Guild in the eastern part of the city.
The expected bounty was indeed posted.
[Catch the Thief: This thief used acid to steal a decorative obsidian piece from the wall of Knight Albert's residence, which is under the Church of Wealth. Bounty: 50 silver coins for the thief's finger, 2 gold coins for the return of the stolen goods.]
Only the Church of Wealth's rich patrons would offer such an exaggerated bounty, at least 50% higher than normal bounties.
Leiwen smiled; this was exactly what he was waiting for.
A great assassin is never short of patience.
For the entire morning, Leiwen lay in wait near the Black Erosion fanatic who had hit him with [Corrosive Fang], quietly listening to all the information about the target.
The guy's name is Punk, a fanatic, and he is a Barbarian...
Actually, when Leiwen saw Punk's build, he started sighing.
As a godly assassin, he hates assassinating Barbarians the most.
First, they are poor. These muscle-headed guys spend every coin they earn on bottles of alcohol and women. Killing these penniless guys yields nothing valuable.
Second, there's no challenge. Among the eight basic classes in the Aotu world, the most careless and defenseless are the Barbarians, full of vulnerabilities. If not for a grudge, Leiwen would rather kill a Mage than a hundred Barbarians.
Third, Barbarians have strong vitality and long health bars. Other classes can be killed with one strike, but a Barbarian might need several stabs to the heart to die, which completely goes against Leiwen's aesthetic of one-hit kills.
Unfortunately, Leiwen follows the principle of revenge at all costs. Despite his reluctance, he diligently gathered all the necessary information.
Every mealtime, the guy would get drunk with fellow church members, then wander around day and night looking for women, perhaps prostitutes, or, like last night, to assault girls in the slums.
A direct confrontation would give Leiwen no chance of winning. Even the worst Black Erosion fanatic in the game has a challenge level of at least 7. This means that a general player would need to be level 7 to challenge him, and even then, there's no guarantee of winning.
If the guy is drunk, it's a different story. His challenge level might drop to around 4.
For Leiwen, a level 1 novice assassin, level 4 is still a huge challenge.
This means that one missed strike would result in certain death.
In such a situation, the cowardly would give up, and the cautious would choose to team up.
But who is Leiwen?
The former Fang of the Gods, a level 118 assassin!
Revenge cannot be left unavenged!
A godly assassin's pride does not allow him to back down.
Punk must die!
Leiwen continued to wait. From the time Punk staggered out of the tavern to when he parted ways with his friends, Leiwen followed him from a distance. Leiwen was very hungry, and to avoid his stomach growling and alerting the target, he even forced himself to eat a lot of moss.
Don't be fooled by Punk's unsteady gait. If Leiwen rashly attacked, even without using [Corrosive Fang], Punk could easily put Leiwen down again. This time, he might be torn apart before he even had a chance to wash his feet.
Leiwen was very patient, silently moving through the slum rooftops, following Punk at a distance.
At 2 PM, the hottest time of the day, the mild warmth of the early spring sun made Punk feel relaxed and soft. He might be more alert at night, but at this time in the afternoon, he relaxed his guard.
Perhaps drunk, Punk turned into a dark alley, unbuttoned his pants, and started to urinate...
With no one around, Leiwen made his final observation of the ground behind Punk.
Unlike the main streets, which are mostly paved with bluestone, the slums have uneven mud.
Fortunately, it didn't rain today; otherwise, the sound of his feet splashing in puddles might have alerted Punk.
Using his rich experience, Leiwen quickly found the most solid and silent path, and like a sleek cat, he landed silently on the ground.
"Personal Skill [Stealth] activated, +2 to all hiding and sneaking checks."
"Skill [Hide] activated!"
"Hide successful, the target's perception is deceived."
The human field of vision is only about 120 degrees. As long as the auditory and other senses are deceived, Leiwen cannot be detected.
Silently and ghost-like, Leiwen approached Punk from behind, ready to act.
According to the assassin's code, the ideal method is to slit the throat.
There's a problem, though. Punk is much taller than Leiwen, a full head taller. If he strictly follows the assassin's code, he might accidentally stab Punk's shoulder.
If that happens, being counter-killed would be Leiwen's only outcome.
Leiwen took a more daring approach. He raised a short stick high, slowly swung it in a perfect circle in the air, and silently struck Punk's back of the head.
A knockout blow!
"Deadly Attack activated: The assassin observed the opponent for three breaths before attacking with a melee weapon, causing damage. This sneak attack has an additional paralysis effect."
"Target's Fortitude check failed, target is weakened."
"This sneak attack deals 3 points of damage."
The sudden intense pain mixed with an indescribable dizziness made Punk's body instantly weaken.
With a clean and swift step, Leiwen had already moved to Punk's right side, like a venomous snake striking, and thrust the Obsidian Spike.
A perfect strike!
Avoiding the ribs under the right armpit, the blade pierced through the once-impenetrable thick skin, easily slipping between two ribs, piercing the entire right lung, and finally creating a large hole in the heart.
Instantly, blood gushed out from the hole in the heart, quickly filling the right lung.
The [Silence] effect of the Obsidian Spike was triggered, as if erasing the surrounding air.
"..." Punk's mouth opened wide, but for five seconds, he couldn't utter a word.
After the [Silence] effect wore off, taking advantage of the paralysis from the deadly attack, Leiwen leaned in and whispered in his ear, "Thank you for the [Corrosive Fang] you gave me last night and the cut on my sister's face. Since you left me to die after giving me a mortal wound, I will return the favor in full."
What? It's that kid!? Impossible! Punk's bloodshot eyes widened in shock and regret!
The intense pain in his chest reminded him of the loss of life. He knew he was in grave danger. As soon as he regained his mobility, he vented all his anger in an attack.
Drawing his axe from his waist, he swung it in a wide arc behind him.
Unfortunately, in front of a former godly assassin, his movements were too predictable. Leiwen, who was prepared, crouched behind him, and the axe swung past him.
Leiwen was like a master hunter, delivering a fatal blow and then waiting quietly for the prey to die.
Punk flailed wildly, accelerating his own death. No matter how he punched, kicked, or swung his axe, Leiwen remained like his shadow, staying behind him.
Leiwen didn't deliver a finishing blow, using Punk as a practice target for [Line of Sight Concealment]. Through the system, he could see his skill level slowly rising.
After half a minute of toying with the bear, Punk's movements slowed, and his life was nearing its end. He collapsed in front of the wall, coughing up large amounts of blood.
Leiwen grabbed Punk's neck from behind with his left hand, enjoying the increasingly weak struggles of this bastard.
"I swore last night, 'If I survive, I'll kill you first!' Now, it looks like I'm going to fulfill my vow."
"Ugh..." With his neck squeezed by Leiwen, Punk couldn't utter a word.
"Now, I just want to ask, who will end up rotting in the gutter?"
