the skin tearing off, exposing the epidermis -> isn't the skin the epidermis, rather than the epidermis being under the skin?

This is late, but happy birthday! 8DD

Can't wait for the Moral Horizon chapter. It's super long in the novel, I wonder what's being said. I'm sure it'll have lots of important stuffs. Thinking about how that chapter will turn out makes me a bit sad though.
