The Order of Light
For players who engage in Gedroyt’s game, it’s a group they inevitably get involved with at some point. The Order first appeared in the mid-1st World and played a significant role in repelling the Undead’s advance in the 2nd World. It is a religious organization that worships the God of Light, Ro-Haram. With a history as long as its influence, the Order has wielded immense power, reaching its peak in the 3rd World, where it holds more influence than most nations.
In fact, for an ordinary player, it’s essential to maintain a good relationship with the Order of Light. This isn’t out of fear of their power, but because the closer you are to them, the more it benefits your gameplay. In World 3, you will eventually face Mutes or Black Mages. If you achieve success in battles against Mutes or kill Black Mages, the Order will record your contributions, which can be used to recruit Priest NPCs, purchase equipment with holy attributes, or buy useful consumables like holy water and holy potions.
From a player’s perspective, it’s like you’re killing Black Mages because you need to in the game, and the Order people come to you, praising you, giving you items, and even lending you people. If you happen to commit a crime and become a wanted criminal, you need to cling to the Order of Light even more desperately. This is because the Order has the right to absolve sins through a process called the "Right of Penance." If a sinner comes forward, confesses, and completes a few "Holy Missions" assigned by the Order, their sins can be forgiven. This is no ordinary authority, as it allows the temple to absolve sins regardless of the crimes committed in any nation. This demonstrates the immense power the Order of Light holds in this era.
*Crunch, crunch*—
The professor descended to the first floor of the inn, biting his nails as he spoke.
"Right of Penance... Should I go and receive it?"
"Who knows? That depends on who the Order is looking for, doesn’t it?"
The issue is this: Is the Order just looking for the 'fugitive professor,' or are they after the 'Red Mute' who killed a 6th-tier mage, destroyed a mage tower, and caused chaos by flooding the entire city? Since I don’t know which one it is, I’m in this dilemma. If it’s the former, I can just say 'hehe, sorry' and do some menial tasks. If it’s the latter...
‘Wicked one! Receive the judgment of light!’
‘Burn in eternal, undying pain! Oh, Ro-Haram! Your servant will flay the skin of this wicked being!’
‘Hmm. It’s obvious. The people of the Order of Light are really scary. A nun who was giggling in the garden while pruning trees will suddenly flip her eyes and leap like a beast, wielding garden shears the moment she encounters a
