Chapter 47 of 100

Chapter 47

5 min read1,347 words

Looking at the "illegal operation or incorrect command" that took up most of the screen, Chen Fei used the "cls" command to clear the screen instantly, then discarded his杂念, and the frequency of the "illegal operation or incorrect command" immediately decreased significantly. It could be guessed that these characters were actually his杂念, which did not match the commands corresponding to "hallucinations," hence the prompts appeared.

To be honest, he had already gotten somewhat used to it, gradually choosing to ignore them, and they were not as annoying as they were at first.

After the "cls" command, he threw in a "dir" command.

Emmm...

Where is my update.bat?

"A:>\ directory"

****/12/12--12:21----2333--setup.exe

2333 bytes

Chen Fei was a bit stunned. The update.bat in the "A:>\" partition had vanished, and instead, there was a setup.exe.

The files here actually changed.

Damn it, I don't care.

"A:>\setup.exe"

Enter!

One blink, one open, and it was already morning!

What the heck!

Chen Fei hadn't even had time to lie down when he woke up.

In other words, he had sat on the bed all night, feeling nothing the whole time.

"Chirp chirp chirp!"

The already awake Xiao Jiu was hopping on Chen Fei's shoulder as usual, occasionally pecking his ear and stealing sips of juice, leaving colorful spots on his ear.

Chen Fei, brought back to his senses by the clear bird calls, carefully moved his body. Fortunately, there was no stiffness or discomfort, and he let out a long sigh of relief.

This ghostly DOS system wasn't so bad after all.

Focusing his gaze, the screen was clear, with no annoying "illegal operation or incorrect command" messages. Instead, it seemed to have entered some kind of progress interface, apparently an online installation.

"Installation progress>>>>>>>>>>>…0.01%…"

Below, it showed 3 files (2MB) / 17174 files (19.5GB) downloaded, with the current connection speed at 0.05KB, sometimes dropping to 0.01KB.

This internet speed… it must be prehistoric?

No hope, just destroy it, I'm tired!

At this rate, it would probably take until the end of time to download.

Chen Fei, however, didn't care. Whether this installation interface could complete 100% or not wasn't important. What mattered was that the interface was clean and not as annoying as the previous DOS command line.

So, let it download for as long as it wants, preferably forever. In a sense, the "hallucination" problem would be solved.

"Are you awake?"

A cough came from outside, and the voice of the Neanderthal old man Barut entered.

"I've been awake for a while, Grandpa Barut, good morning!"

Chen Fei glanced at his phone; it was only 7:05 AM, and there was still some time before he had to start work. He didn't expect the other party to come so early.

"It's fine, I'm old and wake up early. I brought you breakfast."

Barut entered, carrying an insulated bag with the breakfast he had brought for Chen Fei, placing it on the table in the shack.

The breakfast at the base canteen was mostly prepared by Chef Singh and Chef Abel, each doing a part.

Chen Fei didn't fuss with Barut. After a quick wash and putting away some personal items, he sat at the round table, opened the insulated bag, and found a box of steamed buns, a box of fried dumplings, a plate of fried noodles, and a steaming pot of white rice porridge.

Taking a light sniff, if the full score was 100, it would at least get 60 points. Industrial frozen food was just that, impossible to satisfy everyone.

But there were also benefits to pre-packaged food. Although it wasn't as authentic as home-cooked, at least it wasn't wildly modified with all sorts of curry flavors, which might cause a rebellion in the entire base.

The 911 Air Base had its limits in cost-saving measures.

"How did you sleep last night?"

Seeing Chen Fei wolf down his breakfast, Barut poured him a cup of coffee to help him wake up and get into the right state for work.

"Fine!"

Eyes closed, eyes open, and it was already morning. He didn't even dream, and Chen Fei didn't feel anything wrong. At least he was energetic, with no drowsiness or stiffness from sitting up all night, more like a dreamless night.

"It's good that you can adapt. I was afraid you wouldn't get used to sleeping here."

Barut smiled and nodded.

Some people are particular about their beds and sleep poorly in a new environment. If he could adapt, the upcoming night shifts would be much easier.

Chen Fei tidied up and said goodbye to Barut, taking the collected garbage with him.

Back in the dorm, he prepared some things and even called home to check in.

His older brother, Chen Shi, had just gotten married but didn't go on a honeymoon. He went to work the day after the wedding and worked for three days straight, even planning to take on a second job in his free time. The grand wedding he had planned ended up being very modest, and the bride's family and friends were clearly not very happy, even saying some unkind things.

Fortunately, his new sister-in-law was understanding and didn't complain much. She managed their small home well and often came to help her in-laws.

His younger sister, Chen Meng, had finally settled down, throwing away all her celebrity merchandise and focusing on her studies to get into a good university, hoping to find a good job and pay off the debt her brother, Chen Fei, had taken on, without burdening the family.

Chen Fei's parents, already retired, had each found a part-time job to earn some extra money to help with household expenses.

Everyone was working hard to pay off the huge debt, and no one was idle.

In this situation, Chen Fei didn't dare to tell his family that he had accidentally killed a dragon and almost lost his life.

When you're away, it's best not to worry your family too much.

After lunch, Chen Fei's "True Fragrance" combat flight squadron training hadn't started yet. Along with all the employees of the 911 Air Base, he received a notification for an online video meeting.

As a subsidiary of the Tianqi Defense Group, the 911 Air Base had an independent internal management system.

Each employee could use their work ID and corresponding password to check their salary statements, work performance evaluations, personal application approvals, and special announcements from the base.

Following the notification, Chen Fei clicked the link, and on his tablet screen, the face of the Internal Affairs Department's Second-Level Reviewer, the one-eyed Hana Gager, appeared. She was sitting behind the former executive manager's desk, staring coldly at everyone on the screen.

Many people were likely stunned at this moment because not many people in the 911 Air Base knew about the change in the executive manager, and it hadn't been officially announced yet.

After a moment of silence, Hana Gager finally spoke.

"I am Hana Gager from the Tianqi Defense Group headquarters, officially replacing Mr. Morris Morgan as the new executive manager of the 911 Air Base. I hope we can work together pleasantly in the coming days."

The 911 Air Base was in an uproar, and many people hadn't expected the executive manager to be replaced so suddenly, with no prior signs.

"WTF?"

Chen Fei heard the incredulous voice of the "Big Bear" Chekov, the squadron leader.

The deputy squadron leader of the "True Fragrance" combat flight squadron, "Devil Pepper" Iliani Roush, sniffed and said indifferently, "This woman, hmpf, one-eyed!"

"Wow, this woman is hot!"

The pilot of the Z-9 attack helicopter, codenamed "Miso," Yamada Yutaka, grinned lecherously, almost licking the screen.

The chief mechanic, Xiao Ming, remained expressionless: "…"

Whether the executive manager changed or not didn't affect him much.

Pilots were easy to find, but experienced mechanics were rare, so he had the right to be aloof.

Just as everyone was speculating about the new executive manager's inaugural speech, Hana Gager's words surprised them again.

"Next, I will show you a video."

All the screens flickered in unison.
