Chapter 36

(2019/01/17) I have revised the part about Helen's payment. It does not affect the main plot.
"Durability has been tested to some extent, but if anything happens, come to Kamiro's shop or here. Preferably before you use it in actual combat."
After somehow freeing myself from Helen's bear hug, I informed her of my responsibility as the maker. If anything happens, I will fix it, but if it happens on the battlefield, there's nothing I can do. Since I made it according to her request and knew her face, I was particularly concerned about this aspect compared to regular orders.
"Understood. I often train, so if I notice anything, I'll come back."
"Ah, about the payment..."
"How much?"
"You can pay whatever you want."
"Eh, is that okay? I don't know the market price?"
"It doesn't matter. I decided to accept the price that the customer is satisfied with for custom orders."
In theory, since I can make a decent number of general models in two days, I should at least get that much. Some might take advantage of the situation and just give me one silver coin and be done with it.
However, this is something she really wants, and I don't think she will give an unreasonable price. As long as I can earn enough to cover the cost of the iron ore and charcoal for two short swords, it won't be a loss, even if it's not a profit.
"Hmm..."
Helen is quite troubled. She said she doesn't know the market price. For me, getting one gold coin would be great.
"Then, just this."
Helen took out a bag from her satchel and pulled out two gold coins and several silver coins.
"It's enough."
"Well, now that I've taken it out, is this okay? I made it a bit higher than what I'm using now."
The one she's using now must have cost a lot. It doesn't seem unreasonable from the quality.
"It's fine. The one I'm using is also well-made, so this is fine. I think it might even be a bit more."
"O-Okay..."
After paying, Helen waved her hands and shouted, "Thanks a lot!" before disappearing into the forest. Given her attitude, if she encounters a large black bear on her way back, she might happily use it as a test subject. Once Helen was out of sight, we all returned to the house without a word.
"Still, she had incredible strength..."
I muttered. Her strength must be comparable to that of a large black bear.
"Even when we all used our full strength, it was hard to pull her off the aizou."
"Her voice was also very loud."
Sermia and Rike also seemed to have strong impressions. Well, not many people are like that. If there were many humans who could make dwarves and beastmen use their full strength, it would be a bit of a problem.
"Anyway, let's make short swords and long swords today and deliver them to the city tomorrow."
"Okay."
"Understood, boss."
We started making short swords and long swords. Even though we only did something different for two days, it feels like we're back to normal. We prepared as usual, got help as usual, and made them as usual. Although it hasn't been that long since I started living here, this scene has become a daily routine. I felt a bit emotional, but I managed to keep it from Sermia.
At dinner that day,
"Since we have some financial leeway, I think I'll take a break from blacksmithing next week and work on the house. The doors and beds still need a lot of work."
"That's true. In terms of the number of items made, this time is sufficient. I think a week should be fine."
"Hey, I'll help too! We still have plenty of meat, right?"
Rike and Sermia also seemed to have no objections.
"Then, let's do that. I'll ask Kamiro to get us two sets of bed linens before we go next time."
The next day, we loaded the items we made onto a cart and headed to the city. This time, in addition to the usual items, we also loaded about half of the sickles we had in stock. The weight wasn't much, so the travel speed wasn't much different from walking. We didn't encounter anything special in the forest or on the road (we did see some cute bunnies), and we arrived in the city. We immediately went to Kamiro's shop and had him called out.
"Hey."
Kamiro greeted us as usual.
"Hey, how are you doing?"
"Pretty good. I'm not having trouble with things not selling, but I'm also not having trouble with things selling too well."
"That's good."
"Right?"
"Yep."
Kamiro and I laughed, and I reported the delivery.
"I've left the cart by the warehouse. This time, in addition to the usual items, I brought some sickles. I tried to sell them before, but they didn't sell at my place. If you don't need them, you don't have to take them."
"No, I'll take them. Let's calculate them together. Hey."
Kamiro called one of his subordinates to take care of it.
"Also, I won't be able to come for delivery next week. Is that okay?"
"Sure, no problem... Is something wrong?"
Kamiro looked very worried. I live in the Black Forest for some reason, so he might be worried that something could happen and I might not come back.
"No, nothing in particular. I just want to work on the house next week. I'll take a break from blacksmithing."
"I see. So, the next time will be the week after next."
"Right. And if possible, could you prepare two sets of bed linens by then?"
"Two sets, got it. I'll look for them."
After that, we talked about Helen, bought salt, wine, and vegetables. The payment was deducted from the sales. This kind of transaction wasn't something we did from the beginning but started relatively recently, and it's becoming a routine. I hope this routine continues for a long time. With that thought, we left the city.
