Chapter 53

"Right. A means of communication. Camilo, this is also for Marius, but I think we should establish a way for Giselle and Luiza to contact each other as well."

During dinner, after swallowing a slice of the roasted deer meat I had been marinating, I said:

"Camilo, since there didn't seem to be any other way when we were with Diana, I decided to check for letters at the entrance of the forest every day. But it's not good to keep getting a swing and a miss when there's nothing happening."

If the mailbox at home was 4 to 5 kilometers away, there wouldn't be many people who would go out of their way to check it every day. Thinking about it again, I couldn't help but miss the communication methods from my previous world. I could almost picture Luiza holding a smartphone, puzzled, saying, "Oh, how do I send an email...? What's Twitter...?" and quickly chased the image from my mind.

"Well, with the current number of people, we could set up a mailbox near the entrance of the forest and take turns checking it, but..."

"Still, the location being at the entrance of the forest is a problem, isn't it?"

"You're right."

I nodded to Rike, who was on his second glass of firewine. Sermia, Helen, and Anne aside, Rike, Diana, and Ridi all face risks when traveling through the forest alone. There's no guarantee that Sermia and the others will always be safe, especially given Sermia's background. The same thing could happen again.

Besides, at least nominally, Diana, Helen, and Anne are hiding here. I don't want to send them to the forest entrance, where outsiders can enter, alone.

"Then, should we go in pairs?"

"Still, there's the risk of exposing ourselves..."

"That's a given, isn't it?"

"Hmm."

Diana's words made me cross my arms. Now that she mentions it, we do go to town frequently, so it's a bit late to worry about it now. If that's the case, could we pair up those skilled in combat with those who aren't—though Diana is skilled with a sword—and include Kururu and Lucy? Fortunately, or rather, once the hot spring and the corridor are completed, we won't have to build anything for a while... I hope. Even if we do, it would only be something like an additional warehouse or shed. That shouldn't be a problem, even temporarily. It might be good for Kururu and Lucy to go for a walk, so let's try that for now.

"Let's do that if everyone agrees. If it seems dangerous, we'll come back immediately. If it takes too long, the rest of us will go to check on them."

Everyone nodded in agreement. This will be our new routine. I hope it works out well. I don't want it to work out too well and end up with one of us becoming a half-demon boy like in a certain story, but I doubt anyone would understand that, so I'll keep it to myself.

"The problem is the means of communication with Giselle and Luiza."

Sermia said, still with her arms crossed.

"Something we can check every day, right?"

"They would probably check it if we told them to."

If they have something to do, it's fine. We're basically here. We're definitely "not here" during the bi-weekly deliveries, and there are other times we leave the house unexpectedly.

"We can be sure that they will come to our place once a day."

"But with Luiza, it's different."

"That's the thing."

I nodded in agreement with Sermia. Giselle and her people are fairies. In the worst case, we could ask one or two of them to come here. Even without "that incident," it would be mutually beneficial.

The problem is Luiza. She's quite forgetful, but she is part of the "Earth Dragon." I don't know how many others like her exist, but she is an individual with her own existence and power.

Asking such a person to "come here every day" is, well, a bit awkward.

"If we had a way to tell them from our side."

Anne said, finishing the last piece of meat. Helen's fork, which seemed to be aiming for the same piece, was still stuck in the air.

"We can't exactly project a bat symbol in the night sky, can we?"

"What's that? Is there such a custom in the north?"

"No, there isn't."

There's a possibility that that rich guy could have been reborn in this world. He even became a ninja.

Anyway, after dinner, the discussion continued. Ideas like using a beacon, hitting a large tree with a hammer to make a loud noise, or driving stakes into the ground to alert the "Earth Dragon" were all proposed, but none of them seemed to be the solution. The discussion was interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Coming."

Ridi answered and opened the door to reveal a familiar figure.

"It seems you're having trouble. Giselle was nagging me to knock, so I did."

It was Luiza. I thanked her in my heart for her timely arrival and invited her in.
