I continued my words.
"Well, I think it would be nice if we could sell five of them, considering it's our first time."
"Where are you going to sell them?"
"To the city's guard unit. More specifically, to your brother, who's in charge of them."
The guards are currently using short spears. And the lord of the city who provided them is none other than the Aimur family. When Marius was the third son of the Aimur family and served as a guard, it was simply because of this. The reason he didn't become the captain of the guard was probably because he didn't want to be called a "seven-star" (a term for someone who gets a position due to family connections).
And Marius must have been thinking that he wanted something a bit better ever since he was a guard. Otherwise, there would be no need for him to insist on buying swords from me as his personal property. I think he was also somewhat hesitant due to his father and brothers.
So, I speculate that if we negotiate with the Aimur family to sell the halberds to the city's guard unit, there's a good chance they'll buy them. If not, we can ask Camillo. If they still don't buy, well, we'll see what happens then. I'm fully utilizing my position, but I'll make halberds that match the quality. Additional training might be needed, but I'll leave that to Marius.
"Ah, I see. My brother might buy them."
"Right. So, Rike, everyone, I'll leave the production of the standard model to you."
"Sure, boss. Then, let's make short swords today, Sermia, Dina."
"Alright."
"Yes."
And everyone started their work.
I heated the metal plate and began making the spear tip. For a regular spear, a certain degree of "cutting" function is necessary, but since this is a halberd, I focused on the "thrusting" function, shaping it into a triangular pyramid. To avoid durability issues, I made it thick and short. I left a bit of the base unprocessed for later assembly.
Once that shape was complete, I moved on to making the axe and hook parts using another metal plate. I sandwiched straw ash between two metal plates, heated them, and hammered them together. Then, I extended and shaped them. The axe part was shaped like a triangle with one vertex pointing inward, and the bottom edge curved gently inward. I extended the hook part from the opposite side, shaping it like an eagle's beak.
With these two parts completed—the spear tip and the axe and hook parts—I expanded the base of the spear part and the middle of the axe and hook part into a split cone shape and joined them. The final finishing work followed.
I quenched and tempered the axe part, then sharpened it, completing the head. This part relied entirely on my "cheat" abilities to control the temperature, hammering, and quality. Since this is a special order, I concentrated quite a bit and made it to a "premium model" quality.
Next, I attached the head and pommel (which I made slightly pointed like a spike) to the handle, and finally, the halberd was complete. The wood for the handle is outside, so I'll do that another day... The creation process is like combining different parts of weapons, but the bag-like processing to connect the head to the handle would be impossible in this short time without my cheat abilities. Even with the help of my cheat and installation, it took quite a while because I was feeling my way through it. From tomorrow, I should be able to make them faster.
I had a bit of free time, so I decided to make a replacement for the defensive knife I lost during the Aimur family's commotion. This is a custom model, so I used my full cheat power from the start, carefully hammering and extending the metal plate to ensure the steel components were evenly distributed and to bring out a shine.
Once the entire piece was clean, I shaped it and finished the processing. This is a task I've done many times before. The only difference is how much I concentrate. The completed knife has a strong shine, which didn't appear when I made it in the city. I'm glad it turned out well. For now, that's good enough.
I realized that Rike and the others were watching the knife I made with serious expressions.
"Wow, when the boss really puts in effort, the beauty is on a different level."
Rike said, looking entranced. Rike can be a bit scary at times like this.
"I can't tell as much as Rike, but it's really beautiful."
"I can't really tell either, but it's definitely something amazing."
Dina and Sermia also praised it.
"Thank you all. But, I couldn't make this in the city."
"Really?"
"Yeah. So, I had to mix in my defensive knife, and it somehow worked out."
"Oh, that's why you're making a custom piece today."
"Right. And here, I could make it to the usual quality, so there must be something here..."
The others also thought about it, but they couldn't figure it out.
"Still, the only problem is that we can't move anywhere else from here, but I have no intention of doing so, so it's practically the same as having no problem."
I laughed, "Hahaha." But there's no guarantee that we won't have to abandon this place at some point.
To prepare for that, I need to find out why I couldn't do it in the city. Since we don't know why, we probably need help from someone with specialized knowledge that we don't have, including my installation. First, I need to figure out what kind of specialized knowledge that is.
"Well, it's about time. Let's call it a day and have dinner."
When I said that, Sermia cheered, "Hooray," and Rike scolded her.
