Starting from the next day, I will resume my regular blacksmithing work. I really want to start working on the Apoita Kara, but even though we have sufficient income, I can't rely solely on occasional requests. I need to keep up with continuous work.
So, I will have Sermia and Diana do the casting, and I will handle the finishing for the high-end short and long swords for about three days. During this time, Rike will work on making knives. According to Camillo, weapons sell well, but so do knives that straddle the line between weapons and everyday items.
However, since knives are closer to everyday items, the general models, which are more affordable, sell better than the high-end models. For weapons, which people entrust their lives to, many people still buy the high-end models even if they are expensive. So, I try to adjust the delivery quantities to match the sales trends. Of course, if there are specific orders for certain quantities, that's a different story, but apart from the halberd requested by the lord the other day, I haven't received any such orders from Camillo.
So, for now, the delivery quantities are decided by my own judgment. But I need to consider the possibility that requests might come in the future.
I heard about magic from Lidi, so for the first one this time, I will focus on that. As usual, I will find the inconsistencies and average them out. At this stage, there is hardly any magic infused. It seems to be thinly present, but compared to custom-made items, it is very minimal.
Indeed, the biggest difference between high-end models and custom-made items is the amount of magic. High-end models maximize the use of the material, which requires considerable effort and talent, but it is still achievable by ordinary humans. It makes sense that there are a few blacksmiths in the capital who can make something similar.
I thought before that if they were high-end models, there would be no problem making a lot of them. However, with custom-made items, some people might notice the unusual amount of magic, so it's not a good idea to produce them too aggressively.
While thinking about these things, the three days of work went smoothly, and I was able to ensure a sufficient quantity for the next delivery. Rike also managed to produce a large number of general model knives. Since we don't need many high-end model knives, if I make knives for one more day, we will have enough for a week's worth of deliveries, not two weeks. Even if I take a whole day off, it will still work out. Since I have another day off, I need to decide what to do with it.
I think it would be good to work on the Apoita Kara, but considering the struggle with mithril, I would need about 3-4 days of concentrated time. Since it's my personal item and not something a customer is waiting for, I can take my time and work on it later.
So, at dinner on the third day, I told the three of them that I would take two days off starting the day after tomorrow.
"Then, let's go fishing again," Sermia suggested.
"Is it one day or the other, not both?"
I think it's different, but I should confirm.
"Of course."
"Then, let's go fishing the day after tomorrow."
"Yay!"
Sermia was overjoyed. In this aspect, she seems more like her actual age than her physical age. I almost forget, but she is only 5 years old in terms of age.
"Sermia and Diana, if you go hunting, go tomorrow and plan to collect the game the day after tomorrow."
"Got it."
"Understood."
In that case, I will probably spend the afternoon of my day off the day after tomorrow making fishing rods... I can't make reels, but I need to make rods and hooks for Diana. Rike will likely practice magic, which he learned from Lidi, by making knives or something, so it will be convenient to have a fire in the forge anyway.
It's not that I've grown tired of blacksmithing, but there are moments when doing the same thing over and over gets monotonous. Planning out my days off, as I did in my previous world, helps me stay motivated. Breaks are important. We are securing a steady income, and in the future, I want to take regular breaks with a bit more flexibility.
With this renewed resolve, the next day, Rike and I worked on making knives, while Sermia and Diana went hunting.
I worked on the high-end models, and Rike on the general models. Thanks to my cheat, I can finish them quickly. Rike's skills have improved, and while he is still slower than me for general models, compared to regular blacksmiths, he is surprisingly fast. It's time for him to start working on high-end models.
This might be the most challenging time for Rike. He is much better than most blacksmiths, but he hasn't reached a certain level yet. If he didn't understand his own skills, it might not bother him, but Rike has the talent and skill to understand, and thanks to Lidi, he has a starting point for incorporating magic into blacksmithing. He is desperately trying to figure out what he needs to reach the next level.
As his master, I should guide him, but since my techniques are cheat-based, I can't teach them. I don't even fully understand what I'm doing myself. I need to work on understanding my own techniques so I can teach them properly.
While adding another line to my future plans, I brought down the hammer on the sheet metal to make a knife.
