Chapter 12

The test results were decent.

I might as well say that I didn't manage to get into the top 20 in the class.

However, 27th place was still a good score.

My sudden improvement in grades even surprised the teacher.

Since it's about time to start thinking about our future paths, the other students in the class seem to be feeling a bit anxious about my sudden academic improvement.

But when I found out that my class rank was 27th, I was quite shocked that I didn't make it into the top 20.

I thought Roll would be angry.

However, I wasn't scolded; instead, I was praised.

It seems Roll honestly thought getting into the top 20 was unrealistic.

If she thought it was unrealistic, I wanted even more to get into the top 20, but it was indeed unrealistic.

By the way, Roll was in 3rd place. Impressive.

Well, it's been about a month and a half since I joined Anonymous.

And summer vacation has started.

Recently, my main activity has been outdoor training.

My proficiency with the launcher is getting quite good, but it still doesn't match Roll's.

There's a difference in ability. Roll can use rotation, so she can handle the launcher almost freely.

It feels a bit unfair, but it's a privilege of her ability.

So, what are we doing now? Summer homework.

In Roll's air-conditioned room, the sound of pencils scratching on paper echoes.

However, my pencil movement suddenly stopped.

Noticing this, Roll turned her gaze towards me, and our eyes naturally met.

"Ha, another problem you can't solve?

Where is it?"

Roll, who was sitting across the table, moved to sit next to me.

The pleasant scent of Roll tickled my nose.

"It's here..."

"Ah, here. You do it like this..."

Roll explained the problem I pointed out in a way that was easy to understand.

My gaze moved from Roll's fingertips to her arm, and before I knew it, I was looking at her profile.

Roll's once porcelain skin had tanned a bit.

Even with sunscreen, the intense summer training had tanned her skin.

I shifted my gaze to my own arm.

I've tanned quite a bit too.

I've also gained some muscle, and I might look like a decent young man.

While thinking about this, Roll's hand reached into my field of vision and pinched my arm hard.

"Ouch, ouch, ouch, that hurts!"

"You weren't listening just now, were you?"

Crap, I wasn't listening.

"I was just admiring Roll..."

I made a desperate excuse, which was also true.

The summer homework is just too difficult, after all.

"Alright, stop that.

I'll explain it again, so listen carefully.

We have to finish it today. We have a mission tomorrow."

Roll sighed, exasperated.

"R, roger."

We worked until 3 AM the next day, and finally finished half of the homework.

---

The sun was blazing, but the wind blowing from the sea felt refreshing.

A cruise ship floated on the horizon, fishing boats bobbed in the harbor, and seagulls chirped in the sky.

"It's so hot..."

Roll said this but walked along the beach with a cool expression.

She wore a casual shirt that exposed her shoulders over her hot jeans.

The straw hat suited her well.

We were in the seaside town of Dierbel.

It took about 3.5 hours to get here from our town, with Roll driving.

We expected the roads to be more congested during the summer vacation, but we arrived earlier than expected and had some spare time.

So, why did we come all the way here?

In short, it's a date.

That's my wish, but we came here on a mission.

It's a simple mission, with a difficulty level of D.

We just need to pick up a certain "package" delivered to the branch in this town and bring it back to headquarters.

The package will be delivered to the designated location at 9 PM tonight.

The self-defense force's surveillance has already been lifted, so we can pick it up safely.

Therefore, the difficulty of this mission is low.

In short, we just need to pick up the package and return, but it's only 1 PM.

We haven't even had lunch yet.

We planned to eat lunch in the car, but since we have time, we decided to eat in a place with a good view, so we are walking along the beach.

By the way, the lunch is sandwiches that Roll made.

The basket in my hand is heavy.

How many did you make, Roll?

While thinking about this, we had already reached the lighthouse near our destination.

The lighthouse stands on the breakwater.

The view from there is, as expected, magnificent.

Clear sky, south wind.

But it's so hot...

Honestly, I could have eaten in the air-conditioned car.

In this scorching heat, I don't even feel hungry.

Roll sat at the edge of the breakwater, stretching her legs out towards the sea.

The lighthouse created a shadow, so I sat next to her.

"Let's eat."

"Okay."

We opened the basket and started eating the sandwiches.

The taste, as always, was excellent.

If I had to nitpick, it's a bit too healthy.

"The wind feels so good... Ah, I'm getting sleepy..."

After finishing the sandwiches, Roll stretched and said this.

"Really? In this heat?"

"I've been driving for a long time, you know..."

Roll said, pressing her forehead with her fingers.

Come to think of it, I was sleeping in the passenger seat the whole time.

Thinking about it, I feel a bit guilty.

We were up all night doing homework yesterday too.

Looking at her, Roll was struggling to stay awake.

"Should we go back to the car and sleep? We have time."

"Mm, ...then I'll do that."

She said this, but Roll didn't seem to want to stand up, so I offered my hand.

"Can't help it. I'll carry you."

"I can walk on my own, thanks."

Roll, who had become low-spirited due to sleepiness.

I tried to carry her, but a lethargic person is surprisingly heavy, and I lost my balance, falling off the breakwater with Roll.

The splash of water mixed with the sound of the waves.

---

"What are you doing, really?"

"No, I'm really sorry."

"Ha, my hair is all sticky."

"I'm really sorry."

"Alright, it's fine."

We changed into the spare clothes we brought just in case and are now cooling off in the spacious car.

Lying down in the car with the seats reclined, Roll sprawled out.

The air conditioning was a bit too cold.

"Well, I'm going to sleep until 7 PM.

You can sleep too if you want."

"Then I'll do that."

Just in case, I set my phone alarm for 7 PM.

Then I sprawled out too.

The sunlight filtered through the curtains, illuminating the car.

It's good that today's mission is peaceful.

Looking at Roll sleeping, there's no tension at all.

It really is a simple mission.

Anonymous vehicle number 162, model Sadint.

The fact that we're using this spacious car means the package is quite heavy.

I wonder what kind of package it is.

The mission difficulty doesn't reflect the importance of the package, so it might be something incredible.

Since I haven't been told the contents of the package, I probably won't know... I wonder if Roll knows.

Thinking about this, I glanced at Roll, who was snoring with her back to me.

A blanket was draped over her legs.

She falls asleep so quickly.

Since we parked in the beach parking lot, I could hear the sounds of people playing on the beach.

Listening to this, I gradually started to doze off, and before I knew it, I lost consciousness.
