Silver was the bane of a Kindred’s existence.

But clearly Baal and Wang Xiaoming lacked that awareness.

Wang Xiaoming’s first reaction was that this was an extremely sharp sword, which was why everyone feared it.

Baal lifted an eyebrow. “A present for me?”

The other Kindreds, “…”

Though the number six was the sixth generation in rank, there was a huge gap between every generation of the Kindred. A sixth generation matched up against a fourth generation would only result in death. The only reason the third generation could destroy the second generation was because they were also special in addition to having the numbers advantage. That’s why the third generation Kindred had such a firm grip on being the supreme rulers of the Kindred; otherwise, the Kindred would have experienced the constant changeover of dynasties and rulers like the humans had.

Daniel laughed instead of getting angry. “You really are going to take it?”

Baal’s eyes traveled between Daniel and the chessboard. To him, fighting and playing a game were both irresistible temptations. He thought about it seriously for a while before saying, “Let’s fight first. If there’s no death, we can keep playing.”

The same sentence could, of course, mean different things to different people.

Daniel started to admire him. “You really don’t fear death.” Kindreds were just hard to kill, not impossible to kill.

Baal was too lazy to explain. “You’ll know after you try.” He said and then glanced down at Wang Xiaoming.

Wang Xiaoming’s lips moved and he ended up swallowing his attempts at persuasion. It’d be meaningless to try and persuade Baal otherwise now that things had gotten to this point. Truthfully, he also thought Daniel had gone overboard—clearly, he had forgotten who had struck the other person’s stomach first.

“Be careful.” He gave Baal a very trusting look.

Baal answered, “That’s exactly what I was about to say.” All of the creatures here added together wouldn’t be his opponent. But when he couldn’t use his space, it would be hard to guarantee Wang Xiaoming’s safety.

Daniel remarked coldly, “Relax. I haven’t sunken low enough to touch a useless human.”

…

Baal actually agreed with him when it came to disdaining human abilities. So he didn’t refute what Daniel said and, instead, picked Wang Xiaoming up by the collar and stuffed him behind the bar.

Stupefied, the bar owner looked at him. “I’m not hiring.”

Baal said, “I’m just putting him here temporarily.”

The bar owner said, “But I don’t have a lot of space here either.”

Baal shoved the bar owner aside and made sure Wang Xiaoming could stand comfortably before nodding in satisfaction. “Now the space is big enough.”

The bar owner, “…”

“Now that you’ve finished writing your will, can we start?” Daniel waved the sword in the air several times, as if drawing a logo.

Baal clenched his hands into fists and slowly cracked his knuckles. A calm smile blossomed on his face, which made his eyes look more war-like. “Make your move.”

…

Daniel practically burst into laughter.

The madman reputation of the McAvery clan was clearly not without cause. A sixth generation Kindred actually told a fourth generation to go ahead in a fight. Wasn’t he afraid that he wouldn’t even get the chance to strike back if his opponent made the first move?

As a perfect fourth generation Torredo, he didn’t want to earn the bad reputation of beating up someone less powerful, so he allowed Baal the first move again. “You first.”

Baal’s fist silently whipped across.

The speed was just like the first one, quick as lightning.

But Daniel had been prepared this time; his figure flashed and the fist whizzed past his clothes.

Cold sweat broke out on Daniel’s skin.

If he had gotten hit the first time because he hadn’t been prepared for it, then this time he had no reason or excuse. Ever since he had uttered the words, “You first,” his eyes had never left Baal’s. But when Baal really did strike, he was still half a step behind. The only reason he could dodge it was not because of his speed but because of his instincts.

The Kindred had powerful instincts and many of them relied on their instincts when fighting. But if a fourth generation Kindred had to use instincts to fight against a sixth generation, that would be extremely embarrassing.

He looked at Baal and the hand that held the sword slowly extended forward.

But as unhappy as he was, Baal was even more unhappy. Even if he couldn’t use his space, there was no reason for him to not be able to hit a tiny blood-sucking bat.

Baal asked with a frown, “What special abilities do you have?”

He had rarely fought with a Kindred. During the Genesis War, Gin had only helped out and rarely showed off his true abilities, so Baal actually didn’t know a lot about the skills of Kindreds, much less about being able to mimic their abilities to fight.

“Ability?” Daniel’s gaze landed on the two bats still staying dumbly on the chessboard and a chilling smile graced his lips. He slowly reached his hand into the air and made a releasing motion.

Suddenly, hundreds of thousands of bats swarmed out from behind him without any warning and rushed at Baal like a murderous stormcloud.

Though using bats as a weapon wasn’t exactly above board, especially when he was sure the other person’s bats were nowhere close to his, a little trickery was necessary to maintain his image and guarantee victory.

Baal frowned slightly and worked really hard to suppress the urge to toss them all into his space. He stretched out his hand and a black flame burned in his hand. The flame quickly shot up and encircled his entire body.

That was something he had learned after he fell. He rarely used it because every time he did, something bad would happen.

But he was completely encased by bats now and, from the outside, all anyone could see was a constantly rolling giant ball of bats. He and the flame were completely covered up by the dense crowd of bats.

Daniel stood outside the circle and furrowed his brows tightly.

He shared a connection with those bats, so he could sense that they were dying at an extremely rapid rate. But his opponent was just a sixth generation Kindred… Was that possible?

“Lord Daniel must win!’

The band members refused to back down and shouted, instantly supported by the crowd.

Daniel slowly raised his sword.

The Kindred, who had been exuberantly shouting, instantly shushed.

Lord Daniel liked to be low-key.

They exchanged that piece of information with their eyes.

Daniel’s eyes squinted and then he suddenly rushed into the cauldron of bats.

The bats flapped their wings and scattered, then they quickly gathered closer when he got to the center.

The other Kindreds gave each other confused looks. What was going on?

After a long moment, one of the band members gave an awkward laugh. “It is Lord Daniel after all. He likes to take care of business personally, even battles.”

The other band member hurriedly nodded in agreement. “That’s right. Sadly we won’t be able to see the handsome figure of Lord Daniel in battle.”

“Then let us prepare good wine to celebrate Lord Daniel’s victorious return.” As soon as the suggestion was made, the Kindred turned their gaze strangely toward the bar.

Back there, Wang Xiaoming had his hands clasped together and his eyes closed as he prayed for Baal with all his might.

…

“I think, some things need to be resolved before the party?” The looks the band member gave Wang Xiaoming were clearly not friendly ones.

The bar owner was the first to figure that out. He quickly walked up from behind and took out one of his treasured human blood bottles. “This is the good stuff. It’ll be best for celebration,” he said and kicked hard at Wang Xiaoming with his foot.

Wang Xiaoming opened his eyes and gave him a blank look.

“If you’re tired, go wait in the back.” The bar owner quickly gave him a look.

In the Kindred world, humans were destined to be on the losing side.

Wang Xiaoming caught the slowly approaching Kindred guests out of the corners of his eyes and knew what was going to happen. He walked toward the back without another word.

“Stop!” the band member shouted. A bat with its fangs bared rushed over like a glider and started gliding around Wang Xiaoming’s head in circles. “Since we’re celebrating for Lord Daniel, then we need even fresher blood.”

Wang Xiaoming’s body jerked.

He looked at the bar owner and said very clearly, one word at a time, “We want freshly squeezed.”

…

Freshly squeezed?

Instantly, an image of a watermelon being torn apart by a blender so that its juice splattered on everyone floated through Wang Xiaoming’s mind. The blender stopped and he discovered the watermelon had his exact face. “…” He shivered and said quietly, “Daniel said he wouldn’t touch me.”

“Lord Daniel said he wouldn’t touch you, but he didn’t say we weren’t allowed to touch you.” The band member decided to go first and approached the bar.

Wang Xiaoming took half a step back and kept glancing at the constantly shrinking ball of bats.

Though all he could see was a black ball that kept turning in on itself, Wang Xiaoming could sense the beat of Baal’s pulse.

He was coming out.

He was coming out soon.

The beating pulse told him so.

Wang Xiaoming relaxed slightly and then turned around to advise them sincerely, “I think that it would be better if you don’t do that.”

The band members burst into laughter, joined by the guests.

“I feel the opposite way.” The band member who had wanted to start the first fight with Baal suddenly reached out and grabbed Wang Xiaoming.

…

The giant ball of bats exploded.

Or more precisely, the several hundred bats were swept out by an extremely strong current of air.

When the bar owner bent down, he took the opportunity to press Wang Xiaoming’s head down as well. So the two of them were protected by the top of the bar’s counter and were not harmed by the air current or the bats.

But the Kindred guests standing on the other side of the bartop were not as lucky.

There were constant howls of anguish and muffled sounds of pain. At the same time, there were also sounds of something striking the ground.

A blink of an eye.

The bar owner and Wang Xiaoming sneakily stuck out half of their face from behind the bar.

Only to be met by chaos outside.

The entire bar was filled with the bodies of bats.

There was also an extremely strong smell of something being burnt wafting through the air.

That smell was something that nobody wanted to smell again if they’d experienced it once. Because that smell was also filled with the stench of corpses and sulphur. The three scents together were enough to make everyone feel… complicated thoughts and feelings.

“Baal?” Wang Xiaoming softly called out.

Baal turned around and was just like he had been. His suit wasn’t even wrinkled. In contrast, Daniel… was practically a different person from the smartly-dressed, handsome man that had walked in.

Half of his hair had been scorched, half of his face had become black, half of his clothes had been burned, and half of his sword had shattered…

He sat on the ground, his expression utterly bewildered, clearly still not awake from that huge battle.

“Is he alright?” As soon as he made sure Baal was completely safe, Wang Xiaoming’s empathy started acting up again.

Baal looked down at him disdainfully. “He’s not dead.”

Wang Xiaoming and the bar owner, “…”
