Chapter 5: Auxiliary Professions

After leaving the guild, I started thinking about how to level up. First, I went to a pharmacy called Cloud Mountain and, with a heavy heart, spent six copper coins on a small red potion. Ah! I only have one copper coin left! No choice, I'll have to slowly grind monsters to save up!
It took about twenty minutes to leave Cold Emerald City. This big city is really different from the beginner village; it's so much larger. As soon as I left the city, I saw a vast grassland with many yaks. I remember the official guide saying that yaks are level 27 monsters and are passive, so they won't surround you. Newbies rely on them for leveling up.
I found a yak on the outskirts of the herd, rushed to its side, and immediately struck it. The yak's head showed a red 200. The yak was enraged and pawed the ground, charging at me. I dodged to the side to avoid its attack and then struck its hind leg from behind.
"Clank" — System notification: "The yak's leg is injured, reducing its movement speed by 3 points."
So, attacking different parts has different effects! I need to study this more. There are plenty of test subjects here. No matter, I'll take care of the one in front of me first. The yak quickly turned around and charged back, but I dodged its attack again. When I was right beside it, I struck its body, successfully dealing 500 damage. It seems that in "Zero," monsters have different reactions to attacks on different parts.
I followed up with a regular attack, dealing another 150 damage, and the yak immediately fell. After cutting down four or five yaks in succession, I estimated that a yak's HP is around 1000 points. It seems this guy has low defense but high HP.
Finding the pattern, I started leveling up crazily. In less than an hour, I was already level 24. I checked the leaderboard. Damn, are these people human! The top of the leaderboard is a warrior named "Many Kills with a Big Sword," who is already level 32. Right behind him is a level 31 warrior, and then there are two or three people per level on average. It's still early in the game, and everyone is so close. It will be even more terrifying later! I have no idea how these guys level up so fast. I level up quickly because of my high attack, but how do they manage to level up so fast?
No way! I have to surpass them. I need to find some shortcuts. Right! I'll go to the forest and see if I can find a high-level boss, which is a great way to level up! Looking at the red potion I have, it's not enough. I need to buy more. I checked my inventory and, hehe, I already have 79 copper coins. Hey, maybe I have enough for the auxiliary profession certification. I'll go and try my luck.
By the time I ran back to the guild, I was already level 25. This time, I went to the auxiliary profession counter. Another beautiful elf girl was behind the counter. "Hello, I want to get certified for an auxiliary profession."
"Sure. What profession do you want to be certified for?"
"I want to be certified as a blacksmith, a breeder, and an appraiser."
"Oh! You're a rewarded player! The certification fee for a blacksmith is 20 copper coins, for a breeder is 30 copper coins, and for an appraiser is 30 copper coins."
"Ah? That much!" I blushed and took out my 79 copper coins. Even a great lord like me can be stumped by a single copper coin! "I only have 79, and I'm short by one! Can I certify for two professions first?"
The elf girl covered her mouth and giggled. "You're so funny. 79 is fine!"
"What? You mean 79 copper coins is enough?"
"Yes!" She laughed even harder.
I quickly handed over the copper coins. She wrote a few documents on the counter and put them away. The system notification suddenly rang: "Player Ziri has become a blacksmith and gained the skills Mining, Forging, and Processing. Player Ziri has become a breeder and gained the skills Capturing and Breeding. Player Ziri has become an appraiser and gained the skills Identification and Insight."
"New skills! Hehe, I wonder what they can do!"
The elf girl, seeing that I didn't know anything, explained to me. "The blacksmith's Mining skill allows you to find minerals or materials needed for smelting while fighting monsters or traveling. The Forging skill lets you process raw materials into weapons or armor, but since your Forging skill is level 0, the success rate will be very low. If you fail during the forging process, both the equipment and materials will disappear, so it's best to practice with cheap materials first. The Processing skill is used to upgrade equipment. When you find gems or other special materials, you can process them onto your equipment to enhance its attributes, but be aware that if the processing fails, you will lose all the materials, and the processed equipment may randomly lose attributes or even break. The breeder's Capturing skill is used to catch magical pets. Main profession Beast Tamers cannot catch magical pets themselves; they rely on purchasing them, but if they have both professions like you, they don't need to buy them. The Capturing skill is not used casually; theoretically, all monsters in 'Zero' can become magical pets, but if the monster's level is too high, it will only chase you. Also, remember that after capturing, it will only be a magical pet. The Beast Tamer's controlled Familiar is the soul of the dead magical pet, not the pet itself. To get a Familiar, you need to kill the magical pet and then use the Capturing skill, but you need to act quickly. If the magical pet dies and is not captured within 30 seconds, it will disappear and cannot be captured as a Familiar. Breeding is a long-term skill that involves reasonably feeding and training the magical pet to make it stronger. The appraiser's Identification skill is quite practical. With this skill, you can directly identify the attributes of weapons and equipment, and you can use it on monsters and other players, with a certain probability of reading their names and attributes. The Insight skill is special; it enhances the combat power of weapons. For example, if a weapon has a hidden attribute that doubles the attack power, a person with the Insight skill will have the attribute of doubled attack power when using the weapon, while someone without the skill will not. That's all the introduction. If you have any questions in the future, you can come and ask me."
"Thank you! I will definitely come back. Next time, I'll bring you a box of cosmetics."
The elf girl smiled even more brightly. "Really? You can't trick me!"
I finally managed to leave the hall. That elf girl was clearly too enthusiastic. Is this the effect of high charisma?
Ha! Now that I have so many skills, I can't waste them. I'm going to go into the mountains to dig for treasures.
