Chapter 37

As Ye Yun listened to Roger's words, he organized the information in his mind.

The main mission of the camp behind him was actually not the same as his own (their mission name was 'Muster Order,' while Ye Yun's was 'Intervener'). This made Ye Yun suspect that his own main camp mission might not be the same as Roger's team. Moreover, a man with over a dozen subordinates dared to confidently tell hundreds of people, "I will not harm any of you." This suggested that the hidden forces behind Roger were certainly not weak. If so, why was he so amiable to these people?

There must be a conspiracy...

Only to hear Roger say, "I believe everyone already knows that on October 10th, the Hong Kong Stadium... also known as Kowloon will host an 'Asian Sound and Rain Concert.' The purpose is to pray for the victims of the terrorist attack in N City, mainland China, on August 27th. I won't hide it from you; this concert is something I and some big shots have been pushing behind the scenes. Those who read 'Counter-Terrorism Biweekly' must already know that the terrorist attack was actually a conspiracy by CT. They used a treasure that made us, the mainlanders, act to lure us into that jewelry exhibition, and the result was naturally very tragic."

"I didn't plan this 'Asian Sound and Rain Concert' to honor the unfortunate rich people who died as bait, of course, nor to mourn the deaths and injuries of our mainland comrades. The purpose of organizing this concert is to trigger a major event and attract the CTs in Hong Kong to fight, thereby weakening the power of the CT camp in Hong Kong."

"I won't deny my ambition, but the reduction of the CT camp's power in Hong Kong is also a benefit to all of you, isn't it?"

"However, during my planning, my subordinates unexpectedly discovered a clue, which changed the original mission. The initial 'major event' turned into a 'camp main mission.'"

"I know that many of you have not yet participated in a camp main mission. Since it's necessary, let my brother explain it to everyone... Scholar."

Upon hearing his words, a young man with glasses, who looked like a white-collar worker, raised his hand and nodded to everyone, then picked up the microphone and said, "As the boss said, I will explain the difference between a major event and a camp main mission. A major event is triggered by a player of the T or CT camp at the rank of major or above. The purpose could be for a certain treasure or to eliminate the enemy. Both sides can use peripheral forces except for high-level combatants... For example, if Boss Roger wants to initiate a major event in Hong Kong, he would hire some mercenaries, seek help from T players in other regions, and even call in local triads to 'accompany.' The CT side would also seek help from high-level combatants in other regions and, if everything goes as planned, contact the Hong Kong garrison for assistance. This is the biggest characteristic of a major event."

He paused and continued, "As for the camp main mission, it's different. First, both sides' planners are prohibited from using external forces in the battle... of course, hiring some triads to gather intelligence is still allowed. Another point is that while the camp main mission does involve combat with the opposing camp, most of the time it involves competing for treasures, exploring secret places, and searching for 'defectors'—tasks where both sides have the same goal. In other words, a camp main mission is not just about fighting. There are times when T and CT work together, and of course, they will still try to outmaneuver each other behind the scenes."

After speaking, he smiled and nodded, then handed the microphone back to Roger.

Roger cleared his throat and took the microphone, saying, "That's right, those are the differences between a major event and a camp main mission. Do you have any questions?"

The T players had many questions, and the scene became chaotic. However, few questions were about the two types of missions; most were about the current situation.

Roger smiled and waved his hand, "First, let's answer questions about these two missions. The rest will be explained later."

Such a pedagogical gangster was quite rare. Ye Yun thought for a moment and raised his hand, "Major Roger, according to what you said, the scale of a camp main mission seems smaller than a major event. However, looking at the number of people here today... forgive me for saying, but if the CT camp also invests such a number of combatants, the 'spectacle' on October 10th might not be smaller than on August 27th, right?"

Roger seemed to already know some of Ye Yun's background. He wasn't surprised by the question but instead looked deeply into Ye Yun's eyes and clapped, "Sergeant Ye Yun's question hits the core, very good, very good!"

He smiled and said, "Alright, it seems everyone understands the two mission types. Now, I will explain the details of this camp main mission."

As he spoke, 'Scholar' took out a strange device from his storage space. The device had a silver metal base similar to a DVD player, and on top was a crystal-clear sphere.

Scholar pressed a few buttons and nodded. Several black curtains fell around the room, isolating the candle stands and the scene, plunging the room into darkness.

Roger pressed a button on the remote control, and a beam of light shot up from the sphere, slowly spreading out like a flashlight beam to form a silver-white image.

Roger said, "My initial plan was to create a celebrity heist at the Kowloon Stadium. This concert invited the most famous artists from various countries in Asia. If a heist were to happen, it would be a huge embarrassment for Hong Kong and even all of China, not just in Asia but worldwide..."

His words made Ye Yun frown inwardly.

From the previous major event at the Dihao Hotel, it was clear that both camps went to great lengths to achieve their goals. While these efforts were directed at the enemy, the country and ordinary people were often ignored... This made Ye Yun feel that people who joined the game camps had completely lost their sense of self. The honor of the country meant less to them than personal honor, and the lives of ordinary people were considered even less valuable than ants.

This made Ye Yun very uncomfortable. He was worried that he might one day become a mad puppet of the game, just like Roger.

"Of course, once a major event is triggered, the CTs will receive the information a few days before it starts," Roger continued. "The key point of a major event is that the conditions set by the person who triggers it cannot be changed by the passive side. In other words, once the major event truly begins, our mission becomes 'kidnapping celebrities,' and the CTs' mission becomes 'rescuing celebrities.' Even the power of the state cannot force the game system to change."

"Thus, it's natural that the CTs will send people to protect the concert on the night of the event. However, no matter how strong a 'bodyguard' is, they are just there to take bullets, so I am very confident that I can lure a large number of local CTs there."

"This is the major event I planned."

Roger's tone was light, and he smiled, but Ye Yun could imagine the madness that would ensue if his plan were carried out.

Don't forget, the concert isn't just about celebrities; there are also...

Civilians!

And tens of thousands of civilians!

In such an open venue, both sides might even use civilians as human shields, and the casualties would be unimaginably severe.

Struggling to dispel the chill in his mind, Ye Yun mused, "Roger seems to be holding something back."

"That's right! Triggering a major event isn't that easy!"

"If it were really possible to plan a major event without any cost, then every time the CTs acted as 'bodyguards,' they would inevitably suffer heavy casualties!"

"If this continued, the number of people in the CT camp would drastically decrease, which is certainly not what the system wants."

"Therefore, planning a major event must have certain prerequisites."
