Chapter 75

As Ye Yun walked out of the gymnasium through the passage, he was almost knocked off balance by the wind carrying a heavy stench of blood and decay.

The battle outside was still ongoing, but the number of people had drastically decreased compared to the earlier scene of thousands cheering. Although it wasn't sparse, out of the ten thousand seats, only one or two thousand people were still fighting.

Or rather, it was a massacre.

Or rather, a hunt.

A hunt and massacre of humans by humans.

There were only a few hundred guns left. While the bodies of players who died would disappear, the guns they used would remain and be picked up by civilians for use.

But this was a minority. The ongoing battles mostly involved civilians rushing in to block bullets, relying on their numbers to overwhelm the players, biting and hitting them.

Perhaps because of this, out of the ten thousand spectators, only a thousand or so remained.

Looking around, there was not a single seat without a body. Most of these bodies had died from gunshot wounds, lying in various positions on the ground and seats, with blood flowing down the stadium's stepped floor, forming red streams.

After such a slaughter, the minds of both the victims and the perpetrators had become clouded. If the players still had any rationality, they could have formed a defensive formation and slowly retreated, and the unorganized civilians rushing from all directions would have been completely wiped out.

But the players were already bloodthirsty, with no formation to speak of. In just half a minute, dozens of players stood with guns, blindly and crazily firing in all directions, not even realizing when their bullets were exhausted. Their stiff fingers remained on the triggers, allowing the fearless civilians to rush and overwhelm them, tearing them to pieces instantly.

There was no way to surrender, no way to survive. The civilians had no choice but to either sit and wait for death or fight back. Was this even a question?

When people no longer fear death, what can death do to them? The intense fear left only anger. The thousands of spectators, with bloodshot eyes and fierce expressions, surged like zombies in "World War Z," rolling over and overwhelming their perceived enemies, then devouring them.

Often, after this "wave" dissipated or turned to other targets, not only were the bodies of players left on the ground, but also a part of the "wave" that had been trampled to death.

They no longer knew why they were fighting; killing each other had become an instinct.

Pitiful, tragic.

The chill in Ye Yun's heart was overwhelming.

Unlike the gymnasium where the gunfire was becoming less frequent as the bullets ran out, the white roof of the Hong Kong Coliseum was a scene of intense gunfire.

Ye Yun looked up. The Chaogui team and the Kowloon military, totaling about thirty people, had moved to the highest point. Some were entangled in close combat, while others were shooting at each other while running, one group fleeing and the other pursuing.

Ye Yun's expression turned serious.

The group that was running around the stadium was led by Roger's strategist, the Scholar, who held the golden spherical light shield in his arms.

The roof of the stadium, though seemingly flat, actually had a slight incline, making it difficult to run. But the Scholar had no choice.

Inside the stadium, the chaos was intense, with stray bullets flying everywhere and plastic seats that could easily slow down one's pace.

The internal passages of the stadium, though winding and extensive, were easily blocked by the destruction and chaos, leading to dead ends.

Moreover, the system had announced that the stadium would be completely sealed off by midnight, creating a situation where no one could leave.

Thinking carefully, the only option for the group with the golden spherical light shield was to run for their lives, as this was an era of firearms. Forming a defensive formation would only result in being shot to pieces.

Even though running around the stadium wouldn't take long, the Scholar was protected by seven or eight people. When they encountered obstacles, they would shoot to force the other side to take evasive action, and the pursuers only needed a few people with strange explosion-proof shields to block the bullets.

Additionally, Zhang Yueshan and several other powerful CTs were engaged in close combat with Roger and his team, making it extremely difficult to provide support.

Notably, among the ten players engaged in close combat, none could be recognized by their original appearance. Ye Yun could only guess who was fighting by observing the faces of those shooting and chasing each other.

Of the ten players fighting, only Zhang Yueshan and Roger could be recognized, but their appearances had changed significantly.

Zhang Yueshan still had his stern, justice-filled face, but his shirt was completely destroyed, and his pants were torn, revealing a non-human body! His limbs were complex and streamlined metal structures, with electronic guns and mini explosives (mini RPGs) appearing at his wrists, shoulders, calves, and back. He had transformed into a war machine, moving fluidly and occasionally firing surprise shots.

Roger's appearance had changed slightly, with his originally calm and refined face becoming more menacing due to prominent muscles. Even from a distance, one could see the dense black hair on his face.

His body had changed even more, growing to about 240 cm tall, with arms over 150 cm long, not slender but bulging with muscles like an old tree trunk. His muscles could easily withstand the 4 mm bullets from Zhang Yueshan's mechanical arms!

This man had become a monster, capable of shattering rocks with a single blow. Even when Zhang Yueshan's mechanical fists collided with his, sparks flew from the metal joints.

These two were clearly the strongest fighters, moving five feet with each step, their punches creating a fierce aura. Their battle covered a circular area of at least thirty meters in diameter, and others in the fight were careful to stay away.

However, it was clear that if not for the secret mechanical weapons that appeared on Zhang Yueshan's body, Roger would have already won.

These two could still be recognized, but the other ten or so players had almost lost their human appearance.

For example, in another small circle, there were two monsters: one was a massive brown bear, nearly four meters long and two meters tall when on all fours. Though slow, its strength was terrifying. A single paw strike could cause a large area of the stadium roof to collapse, which was made of reinforced concrete and metal supports, nearly indestructible even by bombs. The other monster resembled the unbound Tyrant from "Resident Evil," standing three meters tall with iron-blue skin and explosive muscles. Its hands had transformed into blood-red claws over half a meter long, and its bald head was covered in green scales, with a sharp, greenish-white horn on its forehead.

If Roger and Zhang Yueshan's fight was powerful yet simple, the battle between the bear and the Tyrant was destructive. Their fight caused the roof to collapse, and they continued fighting without stopping, moving from the upper tiers of the audience seats to the stage, like two heavy tanks, leaving destruction in their wake. Any group of people fighting in their path was trampled into a mess of flesh.

As for the others, they were also grotesque, with white fangs, fierce claws, nearly indestructible mechanical bodies, and bio-mechanical limbs that could extend and regrow even if cut off.

In short, even as a mere observer, Ye Yun was greatly enlightened, no longer underestimating any high-ranking officer.
