Chapter 3

The sun had set, and the night was deep.
Oh? There’s a moon in this different world too... There’s something pointy like a nose on it.
Is it called a Witch Moon or something?
I turned my gaze to the people passing by.
They have long ears. Clearly, they’re not human. There are people who look like werewolves walking around as if it’s normal.
Come to think of it, there were also people who looked like maids from the castle... with cat ears and dog ears.
“I don’t like being in a group.”
Fujihira looked at the gathered classmates with a disdainful expression and muttered.
“A bunch of spineless people.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Well, it’s true, isn’t it? If I didn’t complain, you guys would just follow the country’s orders.”
“That’s not true.”
This is going to get messy.
More importantly, we need to confirm things first.
I stepped forward to mediate between Fujihira and the classmates.
“Hold it, hold it, stop fighting. The king said we can come back anytime. First, we need to confirm if we can survive in this world.”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“...Hmph! Ten Commandments of the Other World! Useless classmates! You guys will just cause unnecessary trouble if you come along!”
Fujihira’s attitude is really bad. Isn’t his short temper making life difficult for him?
I wish he would try to change his attitude, which clearly shows he thinks he’s different from others.
By the way... what are those Ten Commandments of the Other World?
“What do you mean by useless classmates... The one who’s most likely to cause trouble is you.”
“What did you say!?”
“Hold it, hold it! No fighting! Let’s move on with the conversation.”
Why am I the one mediating between Fujihira and everyone else?
“According to what we heard from the castle people during dinner, monsters are rampant in this world. They want us to fight those kinds of creatures.”
“Huh...”
“Anyway, is there a way to earn money or get jobs? Do we get money for killing monsters?”
“It seems not. At least, just killing monsters doesn’t earn you money...”
There are still many mysteries... and at that moment, Fujihira took out a dagger from the bag he was given and smiled.
“Huh? You were given something like that too?”
Everyone checked their bags, but none of them had such an item.
“Only Fujihira?”
“Why only Fujihira?”
“Well... you guys are like fools. They must have only given it to me.”
Suddenly, I remembered that Fujihira had left the dining hall during dinner, saying he was going to the toilet.
His walk seemed a bit awkward when he came back.
He probably stole it from somewhere.
He’s either resourceful... or just annoying, or even repulsive.
It’s not good to jump to conclusions, so I’ll keep quiet.
He’s loud and obnoxious.
Honestly, I don’t want to get involved with him.
“Even with a weapon, it’s foolish to go into battle recklessly. We should register at the Adventurer’s Guild first!”
That’s what Fujihira suddenly said.
...What? An Adventurer’s Guild?
Fujihira and I, along with the other classmates, were taken aback.
“What’s an Adventurer’s Guild?”
“I’ve heard of it in tabletop games...”
“Isn’t it a Hunter’s Guild? Like in monster hunting games?”
“Did you hear about it from the castle people? Did they say that?”
Everyone asked Fujihira.
Fujihira answered with a frustrated look.
“Are you all lacking in situational awareness? In these kinds of other worlds, there’s usually an Adventurer’s Guild.”
“Do you mean you’ve been summoned to other worlds before?”
Oh, that makes sense.
That’s why you didn’t back down even when talking to the king?
“No way. It’s a tradition. Other worlds have these kinds of things.”
“Relying on a facility that might not even exist...”
The classmates were skeptical.
...Is this guy basing his claims on some story or novel, saying that a facility that might not exist is real?
He has a history of this... but if such a facility really exists, it would be suitable for our current situation.
If we can get jobs through it, we might not have to worry about food...
“This kind of guild is usually in a prominent place with authority! That’s it over there!”
Fujihira said and then headed towards a building that looked like a high-end hotel.
I can’t read the language of this world.
So, it’s hard to tell what sign is on it.
Thinking about it, it’s strange that we can understand the language.
Anyway, we followed Fujihira, but when he entered the building, a well-built man grabbed him by the collar and threw him out.
“Let me go! Do you know who I am!?”
“This isn’t a place for poor kids like you! Get out of here!”
An inn... huh.
It’s not the Adventurer’s Guild, is it?
“Are you guys with him?”
The man glared at us.
There’s no choice... if this turns into a bigger commotion, it’ll be troublesome.
“Sorry. We just arrived from the countryside and don’t know anything.”
I acted humble, pretending to be poor kids from the countryside.
If we say we’re from another world, it might reach the king’s ears, and we might lose our chance to escape and end up back at the castle.
“Hey! You should apologize too!”
“Shut up! Don’t make me bow!”
Fujihira, stop causing trouble!
Seeing this, the well-built man seemed to lose his energy and sighed.
“If you want a cheap inn, go to the slums outside the city gates.”
Oh, that’s a good lead.
I’m not great at conversation, but it’s better than getting nothing.
“No, that’s not it... Where is the Adventurer’s Guild?”
The man’s reaction made everyone look at Fujihira.
This reaction suggests it might not exist...
“Are you a volunteer...? Then it’s the building at the end of the right road.”
Oh... it seems it really does exist.
“I don’t know where you’re from, but mistaking this place for the guild... walking up to the counter with such a haughty attitude and saying, ‘I want to be an adventurer’...”
Fujihira, that hurts.
You should have been more careful.
“Thank you very much!”
The classmates, except Fujihira, followed my lead and thanked the man.
It’s all about momentum.
The well-built man lost interest and went back inside the inn.
Everyone looked at Fujihira with disapproving eyes.
What was that about the guild being there!?
Walking up to the counter with a haughty attitude and saying, “I want to be an adventurer”... are you an idiot!?
“Anyway... it seems the facility Fujihira mentioned really does exist. It’s a bit hard to trust, but let’s go check it out.”
We don’t have any other options.
“Damn.”
Fujihira grumbled and followed us.
“Ten Commandments of the Other World! The residents are idiots!”
“You’re the idiot! It’s your fault for making a mistake.”
“Shut up! Make the building more obvious!”
You’re the loud one.
I’ll just ignore you.
Ignoring him, Fujihira continued to mutter under his breath.
“If you guys weren’t here, I...”
What would you do if we weren’t here?
You’re a strange guy. Are you doing some kind of impression again?
Anyway... what is this?
We can see a slightly run-down building that looks like a city hall, two levels below the luxurious inn we saw earlier.
We asked a passerby, and it seems we’re in the right place, so we all went into the Adventurer’s Guild.
There are a lot of chairs. And there are many bulletin boards.
And... what’s that?
There’s something like a monolith set up. It’s floating...
What is it? Some kind of exhibit?
The atmosphere is a bit like a city hall or post office.
There are few people at the counter, probably because it’s late.
That’s different from a government office, where there might be night shifts.
Next to it, there was a building that looked like a hospital.
“Hmph...”
Huh?
Fujihira, undeterred, walked up to the counter with a haughty chest.
Why are you walking so slowly?
Is it the aura of a big catch?
The men in the guild are pointing at Fujihira and laughing.
We can’t help but laugh awkwardly.
When was the last time we laughed awkwardly like this?
“I want to be an adventurer.”
He actually said it... everyone in the class narrowed their eyes.
Even though it’s not us, I feel embarrassed for him.
