Chapter 22 of 100

Chapter 22

2 min read500 words

The matriarch spider fluttered and landed on top of my head.

To be honest, I was a bit startled.

I’m glad I didn’t brush her off with my hand.

The baby spiders jumped and landed on Chai.

It seems they can’t fly.

They must be mother and children, I guess.

The baby spiders are so small that they look like bugs on Chai…

Chai was startled for a moment, but I hope he’s okay.

Since they won’t come down from my head or from Chai, we decided to move together.

What a mysterious spider.

While exploring the second basement floor, I reflected a bit.

When I was attacked by a group of baby spiders, I unconsciously shouted the purification spell I use the most.

However, I wasn’t thinking about anything at that time.

I really just shouted it out of reflex.

I thought that visualization was important for magic, so I’ve been doing it that way, but maybe it’s different?

I’ll try saying something.

What should I say?

Without visualizing, “fire.”

...

Nothing happens.

Next, “water.”

Splash.

A puddle of water appears next to me...

Hmm?

This time, I imagine a ball of fire and say “fire.”

It works.

A ball of fire floats in the air.

It’s exactly as I imagined, something that would be bad to see at night.

So, when I look at the puddle and imagine water, I say “fire.”

Two balls of fire are floating around me.

From the results, it seems that when using a new spell, visualization is necessary.

But it’s not needed after the second time?

That would make using magic easier.

Thinking about it is tiring.

For now, I’ll just have to try various things.

If I do it a few times, I’ll figure it out.

With the balls of fire still floating, I arrived at the last space on the second basement floor.

It’s just a large, empty space.

The ball of fire that was floating next to me is now swaying in a certain direction.

Is it the wind?

Upon inspection, I find a crack in the wall.

I look into the crack, but it’s too dark.

I need some light.

I try “spatial recognition.”

It’s a huge space, and there are no curse clusters.

That’s good.

I imagine a large ball of fire in the space beyond the crack.

“Ball of fire”

Oops, I made a mistake, I said “ball of fire.”

...I visualized it too... I’ll have to be more careful next time.

...The ball of fire is too big.

The light spilling out of the crack is too strong, and I can’t see inside.

I’ll try to make the ball of fire smaller.

...Adjusting is difficult.

After repeating it three times, the fine-tuning is complete.

This is the most tiring magic I’ve used so far.

On the other side of the crack, there seems to be a mineral different from rock.

The light from the ball of fire is interfering, so I can’t tell the color.
