"Wake up, hey, wake up quickly~" The anxious voice pulled Fang Shen back from his daze.
"Kid, are you okay? Why did you suddenly freeze up while walking, not moving at all?" The old man stood in front of Fang Shen, worriedly asking.
From his rambling words, Fang Shen learned that for some reason, he had suddenly frozen while walking, his face pale and his body swaying, as if he had been struck by heatstroke. This kind-hearted old man had helped him to a nearby shaded area and had him sit on a bench.
"Thank you, sir." Although his mind was still a mess, Fang Shen stood up and politely thanked him.
"It's fine, it's fine." The old man waved his hand, and seeing that Fang Shen was fine, he relaxed and slowly walked away, muttering, "In broad daylight, there was such a loud thunder. Young people these days, their bodies are really weak..."
Shaking his head with a bitter smile, Fang Shen sat back down.
Just then, a sudden thunderclap had exploded in the sky, with no warning and an astonishingly loud sound. The car alarms around him were ringing frantically, and at that moment, Fang Shen had stood there, frozen in fear.
His head suddenly started to throb, as if a knife was stirring inside it. Fang Shen groaned, breaking out in a cold sweat, and his body curled up. Fortunately, this place was quite secluded, and apart from a few elderly people who occasionally came out for a walk, few people passed by. Otherwise, seeing this scene, Fang Shen would have been taken to the hospital.
After a long time, the throbbing pain subsided, and then a wave of fragmented memories flooded into Fang Shen's mind.
It turned out that the sudden thunder had brought a broken soul from another world, which had entered Fang Shen's body, causing him to lose control and freeze on the road.
Countless memories flooded his mind, far more than what Fang Shen had experienced. The soul from the other world came from a magical place, where there were countless cultivation methods that made individuals incredibly powerful and gave them extremely long lifespans. It had lived for at least a few hundred years, with life experiences far beyond what Fang Shen had in his mere twenty-one years. If the soul's consciousness had not already faded, Fang Shen would have been consumed long ago.
Flashing swords and spears, mountains of corpses and seas of blood—these were the lifelong battles and the constant struggle to surpass peaks.
"Am I still me?" Even without consciousness, the hundreds of years of life memories left Fang Shen in a daze. For a moment, he felt like Zhuangzi dreaming of a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming of Zhuangzi, unsure which was the true self.
Feeling those memories, Fang Shen shed tears.
In a daze, it seemed as if he had another life, grand and bizarre, filled with unimaginable existences, indescribable joys and sorrows, and endless life experiences.
The soul was still the original soul, and the other person's memories, after the initial shock, became independent. Fang Shen experienced this life as if watching a movie, but the impact changed his worldview and values. What he had once strived for seemed trivial and unimportant, and he became more detached.
Some of his thoughts now seemed so naive and ridiculous.
What was there to be nostalgic about in that cold and heartless family?
"Ring, ring, ring~" The phone rang suddenly, startling Fang Shen.
Propping himself up, Fang Shen leaned against the bench, took a deep breath, and then took out his phone, glanced at the caller ID, and a flash of anger crossed his face before he became calm and pressed the answer button.
"Mr. Shen, how are you considering it? At least give us a response. It's been half a month, don't make it hard for us who are running errands for you." A voice filled with mockery and disdain came from the phone, showing no sense of being a subordinate.
"Understood." Fang Shen said coolly, moving his finger to the hang-up button and pressing it.
"What's with the attitude? Do you really think you're some noble young master?" Hearing the "beep, beep, beep" from the phone, Lin Zhirong's expression turned cold, ready to subtly jab a few more times.
"Understood, what kind of answer is that? At the end of the road, you still can't get your act together, what an idiot." The response, like that of a superior to an inferior, made Lin Zhirong extremely angry. More importantly, he did not get the answer he wanted. When he tried to call again, he found that the other party had turned off the phone, which made Lin Zhirong so angry that he threw his phone.
"How high and mighty, huh? Without the Fang family, I'd like to see how you'll keep up your act." Lin Zhirong calmed down, looking at a document on the table, a cold smile on his lips, like a venomous snake, making one shudder.
The Fang family was a prominent clan in Linhai Province, with numerous assets and a vast network of connections in both the political and business spheres, with significant influence.
Fang Shen was the third generation of the Fang family, and it was not an exaggeration to call him a young master. However, the Fang family was not a small clan but a large and prosperous one with many descendants. Just in Fang Shen's father's generation, there were seven siblings, and in the third generation, there were twelve, and that was just the main line. The Fang family had a long history, and including the branches, there were hundreds of people. Fang Shen, in the third generation, had always been mediocre and was often overlooked.
In recent years, with the old man's declining health and retirement, the internal struggles within the family had become more intense, and Fang Shen's living space had become increasingly narrow.
His father, Fang Jian Shen, was the fifth in the Fang family. Over the years, he had achieved great success, with assets under his name worth ten billion. However, six years ago, Fang Jian Shen and his wife were killed in a plane crash while on a business trip abroad, leaving Fang Shen and his younger brother, Fang Zhi Xing, who was still in high school, to fend for themselves.
With their parents gone, the world became even harder. The family members, citing the young age of Fang Shen and Fang Zhi Xing, took over their assets. If not for the old man, the brothers might have been killed in the struggle for these assets.
Fang Shen remembered the faces of these people and had always held himself to the highest standards, studying diligently without relying on the family's influence. He was admitted to one of China's top universities, Linhai University. With just one year left until graduation, he would have the right to take over his father's assets, and those people could no longer hold back.
Putting his phone in his pocket, Fang Shen returned to his dorm at Linhai University, took a shower to wash off the sweat, and changed into a new set of clothes. In the mirror, Fang Shen looked spirited, with a hint of authority, a subtle influence from the soul from the other world, which would gradually change him, like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon.
"Fang Shen, want to eat together?" His dorm mates called out to him.
"No, I have something to do." Fang Shen said, stepping out of the school gate and hailing a taxi.
"To Fang Group."
