Chapter 1 of 100

Chapter 1

2 min read509 words

Well, after posting this announcement, I found out that the character "床" (bed) has been unblocked. So, I'll continue using the character "床" (bed). (Chapters that have already been changed to "牀" will not be changed back.)

It's not that I'm playing a trick on everyone; rather, I've been played. Readers who were using the client during that time should still be able to see the "床" characters in the downloaded chapters that had been replaced with "**".

I also hope that from now on, everyone can recognize the character "牀". Such censorship incidents are likely to happen again, and the author will have to find alternative characters.

I originally planned to delete this chapter to avoid embarrassment. But then I thought, this isn't just my embarrassment; it's a real event that we all experienced. So, I've added this note and re-posted it as a historical record.

Below is the original content:

————————————————————————

Recently, the entire internet has been undergoing a cleanup, and many new censored words and phrases have appeared. It's still manageable with words, but when even single characters are censored, how can we write books happily?

If it's just about something for sleeping, using "炕" (a type of bed) as a substitute could work. But for some phrases, replacing "床" with "炕" results in: "上炕" (get on the bed), "寒玉炕" (cold jade bed), "一炕被子" (a bed of quilts), "精密机炕" (precision machine bed)... These are just too awkward. Future alternatives will not be perfect.

So, after much effort, I finally found another "chuáng" character — "牀". [I will use this "牀" character from now on.]

This character has the same pronunciation and meaning as "床" (bed), but it is rarely used in modern times. It only appears in classical Chinese texts, making it an ancient character. I believe everyone won't mind learning an additional Chinese character!

Today, let's bring back the old style. Everyone... get on the "牀"!

Great Chinese Dictionary:

【牀】[chuáng]

Also written as “床(广木)”.

[From the Guangyun Dictionary, "士庄切", level tone, Yang, Chong.]

(1) [Noun. A piece of furniture for sleeping.]

(2) [Measure word. Like "条" (tiao). Used for quilts, etc.]

(3) An ancient seating furniture.

(4) To set up a bed.

(5) To sleep on a bed (广木).

(6) A stand or table for placing objects.

(7) A fence around a well.

(8) The bottom of an object.

(9) A measure word. Like "架" (jia), "座" (zuo).

(10) A measure word. Like "套" (tao), "副" (fu).

(11) A measure word. Refers to the amount of rent and taxes a couple is responsible for.

From the Shuowen Dictionary: “牀, a seat for resting the body.”

From the Guangya Dictionary: “栖为之牀.”

From the I Ching, "Pei Feng": “剥牀以足.” Note: “牀, a place for people to rest.”

From the Popular Dictionary: “八尺曰牀.”

From the Explanatory Dictionary of Names, "Explanation of Beds and Curtains": “人所坐卧曰牀,牀装也。所以自装载也。”

It's clear that "牀" is the same as "床" (广木), a piece of furniture that can be sat on and slept in, mainly for sleeping.
