Muyan knew the address of Zhong Jiaqiang's home, but he wasn't sure if he was there. However, this wasn't a big problem; as an employee of a department, such matters were quite simple. Muyan could just call his home directly.
After a ten-minute interval, he made two consecutive calls, but no one answered. Muyan knew that Zhong Jiaqiang was probably not at home.
The residential area where Zhong Jiaqiang lived was not a high-rise apartment complex, but rather a newer small villa, with each building having six floors and no elevator.
Zhong Jiaqiang's home was on the first floor, which surprised Muyan when he found out. He also realized something.
Zhong Jiaqiang's home had a security door, but for Muyan, such a door was no obstacle if he wanted to enter.
Taking out a pre-prepared and shaped wire from his pocket, he spent two or three minutes opening the door. Then, using a differently shaped wire, he opened the inner door in less than a minute.
Although Zhong Jiaqiang was not young, he had never heard of him having a wife or children, so he lived alone. His living space was indeed small, with only two bedrooms and a living room, one of which was used as a study.
Muyan did not rummage through the cabinets but looked at some corners on the ceiling. After searching around, he found no surveillance cameras, which put him at ease.
He then walked into the room without touching any cabinets or drawers, and started tapping the floor.
After more than ten minutes, Muyan pushed the bookshelf in the study aside and tapped the floor beneath it, a smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.
Muyan took out a small knife and carefully pried up the floorboards. Just by prying up the first board, he saw a red sheet of paper underneath, which was full of money.
Muyan lifted all the floorboards and saw a hidden compartment about thirty centimeters wide and nearly a meter long, filled with bundles of hundred-yuan bills, each bundle containing one hundred thousand yuan. There were at least thirty to forty bundles, totaling three to four million yuan in cash.
Zhong Jiaqiang had been with the company for six years. Even if he earned two to three hundred thousand yuan per year as a manager, it would take him over ten to twenty years to save this much money without spending anything. Muyan didn't believe that he had already accumulated this much money before joining Fenghua. Clearly, this guy had made a lot of money in the past.
Although the amount of money was significant, Muyan did not take it. Instead, he took out the bundles of money and found a file bag underneath. Seeing this, Muyan felt a sense of relief, not expecting to obtain the item so easily.
Opening the file bag, he found two savings books with fifty thousand yuan each, both in Zhong Jiaqiang's name. This money was likely his legitimate income.
In addition, there was a notebook, a CD, and a gun. Muyan found it strange that Zhong Jiaqiang had a gun, but he didn't think much about it and picked up the notebook to see what was written inside.
When he opened the notebook, he found that it recorded things like the price of vegetables, similar to what a housewife might record for monthly expenses. However, Muyan immediately noticed the discrepancies, as mung beans would not cost twenty yuan per pound.
Muyan put the notebook and CD in his pocket, then put the file bag back, quickly stacking the money and carefully laying the floorboards back in place, returning the bookshelf to its original position with perfect precision.
After doing this, Muyan cleaned up any traces he might have left behind, locked the front door, and walked out of the residential area.
Two hours later, Zhong Jiaqiang returned home. After washing his face in the bathroom, he went directly to the study and habitually looked at the bookshelf. His face immediately turned pale.
He picked up a broken strand of hair from the floor, examined it closely, and then pushed the bookshelf aside, prying up the floorboards.
Seeing the neatly stacked bundles of money, he threw them out without looking and took out the file bag.
When he emptied the contents of the file bag, he instantly collapsed to the ground, his face turning from pale to ashen.
After sitting in a daze for a few minutes, Zhong Jiaqiang jumped up, ran into his bedroom, and found a travel bag. He quickly packed the money from the study, took a few sets of clothes, and left in a hurry.
Muyan returned home, but his mother had not yet returned as she was tutoring other children.
Muyan turned on an old computer at home.
This computer was bought when he was in high school, over ten years ago, with an outdated operating system, but it still functioned normally.
Muyan inserted the CD into the computer. As the computer's fan hummed, a login window for a platform appeared.
Seeing this window, Muyan's pupils involuntarily contracted because he had seen it before.
"One Drop of Blood, so Zhong Jiaqiang is actually a hitman from One Drop of Blood. No wonder he has a gun and acts so mysteriously!" Muyan was shocked. He never imagined that his seemingly timid boss was actually a member of the One Drop of Blood assassination organization.
One Drop of Blood was a very mysterious hitman organization. It was rumored to have an outer and inner layer. The outer layer members could receive tasks through the system and submit evidence of completion to receive payment.
As for the inner layer, Muyan didn't know much about it, but he knew that even the outer layer had different ranks. Zhong Jiaqiang didn't seem like a skilled hitman, so he was probably a low-ranking D-level hitman, at most a C-level hitman. Moreover, Muyan had seen the gun, which hadn't been used for at least a few years, so he wasn't sure when Zhong Jiaqiang last took on a mission.
Without the password, the system was useless, and it might even have a backdoor. If he entered the wrong password, One Drop of Blood would be alerted.
Muyan immediately ejected the CD, crushed it, and threw it into the trash.
He then looked at the notebook. It contained a lot of information, which was unlikely to be related to his hitman tasks. It might be related to Fenghua Group.
Thinking about Zhong Jiaqiang joining the company a few years ago and the gun that hadn't been used for years, perhaps Zhong Jiaqiang decided to retire and then joined Fenghua Group. He never expected to uncover his secrets by sneaking into his home.
Feeling a bit amused, Muyan decided to give the notebook to Zhang Shuo. Whether he could understand it was not his concern.
