Chapter 5

"Have you heard? The boy from the Ye family actually killed all the bandits, even the Blood Demon Mercenary Group."

"Blowing smoke? Isn't this guy just a playboy? He spends his days fighting and chasing girls, a real wastrel."

"I think it's definitely fake. This guy once brought such great humiliation to the Ye family, everyone in the capital knows. I think he was able to complete the mission this time thanks to Han Jie."

In the entire military camp, many people couldn't help but secretly discuss the matter. Most knew about the Ye family and the Liu family, both prominent families in the capital. Ye Tianchen was caught peeping at Liu Rumei while she was bathing, which enraged the Liu family, causing his parents to personally apologize and bow in front of many of the capital's major families, while Ye Tianchen knelt beside them, losing a great deal of face.

Tie Chui walked into the tent where Ye Tianchen was sleeping. He saw the guy sitting cross-legged with his eyes tightly closed, beads of cold sweat on his forehead. He couldn't help but be stunned because Tie Chui felt a powerful energy surrounding the area, as if centered around Ye Tianchen.

"Team Leader Tie Chui, is there something you need?" Ye Tianchen suddenly opened his eyes and asked with a smile.

"Oh, Cang Jiang wants to see you." Tie Chui had already sensed that the strange energy had disappeared.

Ye Tianchen glanced at Tie Chui, then got out of bed, yawned, and said, "Sorry, I really have no interest in meeting the leadership. I just want to go home."

Just now, Ye Tianchen was meditating to adjust the strange energy in his body. After being reborn in this body, his once god-level ability had dropped to a king level, and the energy he could use was less than ten percent. Most importantly, the energy core in his brain was fluctuating intermittently, which was giving him a headache.

Originally, he thought that being reborn in this life would allow him to live a peaceful life without needing too much power. However, the battle with Sang Bak made him realize that there are always strong people in any era. He believed there were even stronger people than Sang Bak, and there were still people and things he needed to protect. Therefore, having strong power was necessary.

Before Tie Chui came in, Ye Tianchen tried to summon the energy from nature but found that only a small part gathered, far from meeting his requirements. The only time the energy core in his brain fluctuated strongly was when he killed those bandits. It seemed that only through battle could his abilities awaken.

"Ye Tianchen, I think you don't understand your position. You are a soldier, and the order to meet your superior is a command. As a soldier, obeying orders is the top priority."

Tie Chui spoke harshly, feeling a surge of anger. Ye Tianchen seemed ungrateful. Cang Lang was a member of the military committee and one of the three great war soldiers of the East. Many people would want to meet Cang Lang, but Ye Tianchen didn't want to, and it seemed he even thought Cang Lang should be the one to meet him.

"Team Leader Tie Chui, I really don't want to meet any generals. I just want to go home..."

"Since you don't want to see me, I'll come to see you myself!" Before Ye Tianchen could finish his sentence, Cang Lang had already walked into the tent.

"Cang Jiang!" Tie Chui quickly saluted Cang Lang, surprised that he would personally come to see Ye Tianchen. This guy must have a lot of influence.

"Um, Tie Chui, you can go out first. I want to talk to him alone," Cang Lang said with a smile.

Tie Chui glared at Ye Tianchen and left the tent. Ye Tianchen's eyes changed as he sized up Cang Lang, his first impression being that this was definitely a powerful person, with a faint aura of fierce strength, likely someone who had practiced ancient martial arts.

Cang Lang also sized up Ye Tianchen, finding this uneducated young man from the Ye family quite enigmatic. Even now, Ye Tianchen had a carefree attitude, making it hard to associate him with the word "expert."

"Are you Ye Tianchen?" Cang Lang sat down in a chair and asked.

"Yes, are you General Cang Lang?" Ye Tianchen countered, his tone quite relaxed.

Cang Lang nodded and got straight to the point, "I heard you don't want the honor and just want to go home. I want to know why."

"No particular reason. First, I'm not a soldier. Second, I believe the most important thing in life is to be happy with your family. I don't want these troubles and hassles. I hope General Cang can approve it." Ye Tianchen spoke the truth. In the end times, he was an orphan without family. Reborn in this life, he wanted to be with his family and make up for the shame and pain he had caused them.

"I need to consider this. Wait for the news here."

Cang Lang turned and left the tent. Ye Tianchen yawned and fell back onto the bed to sleep. The awakening of his abilities would take time and couldn't be rushed.

The next morning, Ye Tianchen, carrying a military backpack, walked out of the camp. Cang Lang had agreed to his request, and the higher-ups had already instructed Cang Lang to handle the matter discreetly, as the loss of five special forces soldiers and the potential information leak required confidentiality.

In the end, Ye Tianchen signed a confidentiality agreement, promising not to reveal any details of the mission. As he was about to leave, Cang Lang's words lingered in his mind.

"If you are a shining star, you will shine. In this world, battles exist everywhere, and some troubles are inevitable."

Walking out of the enclosed camp, Ye Tianchen stretched lazily. He was not someone who liked being constrained. A free and easy life was what he truly wanted. In the end times, it was always fight, fight, fight, which was quite frustrating. Reborn in this life, Ye Tianchen wanted to enjoy life, but would his wish come true?

"General Cang, Ye Tianchen's file is missing this part." Tie Chui walked over with a file and handed it to Cang Lang.

Cang Lang took the file and saw an empty space in Ye Tianchen's record, labeled "Combat Level." After some thought, he wrote "Unknown" and said to Tie Chui, "Send his file to the National Security Bureau and classify it as top secret."

"Combat level unknown" was the first time Cang Lang had given such an evaluation to a soldier. As one of the three great war soldiers of the East, Cang Lang had seen many people, but Ye Tianchen was truly enigmatic. He couldn't tell if Ye Tianchen's past behavior was an act or if his potential had suddenly burst forth, making him a strong soldier of unknown strength.

After leaving the camp, Ye Tianchen walked lazily on the wide road. This was a military area, heavily guarded, with no civilian vehicles or people allowed. After walking out, Ye Tianchen realized he should have asked Cang Lang to arrange a car for him, as he had no idea how to get to the airport.

"Hey, brother, can I hitch a ride?" Ye Tianchen stopped a military jeep and smiled.

"Huh? The camp is in training at this time. How did you get out?" The soldier driving the jeep asked, puzzled.

"Hehe, I was... dismissed, you know?" Ye Tianchen laughed awkwardly, gesturing to his military backpack.

To his surprise, the military jeep drove away immediately. He could feel the soldier's disdainful look. A soldier dismissed from the military would likely be despised wherever he went. However, if not for this reason, Ye Tianchen couldn't have left the military so easily. Cang Lang had explained the implications and the honor involved, but Ye Tianchen, who didn't care, immediately agreed.

"Damn!" Ye Tianchen cursed and continued walking.

Rumble!

A military motorcycle approached. Ye Tianchen didn't try to stop it, as a dismissed soldier wouldn't be well-received. However, he felt it had nothing to do with him. He was no longer the old Ye Tianchen, though he would take responsibility for everything the old Ye Tianchen did, it didn't mean he would like everything the old Ye Tianchen liked.

"Get in. You're leaving without even saying goodbye, that's too heartless, isn't it?" The military motorcycle stopped beside Ye Tianchen, and Han Jie removed her helmet with a smile.

"Sister Han, why are you here? Is your injury okay?" Ye Tianchen had a good impression of this woman. She had taken care of him since he joined the military and had a strong will, which he admired.

"The minor injury is long healed. Get in, I'll take you to the airport."

Ye Tianchen nodded and got on the motorcycle. Han Jie's driving skills were excellent, and the wind blowing on the way gave a refreshing feeling.

"Are you really not going to be a soldier anymore? You're giving up such a great honor?" Han Jie was surprised and a bit regretful when she heard that Ye Tianchen had left and given up all honors, just wanting to go home. More importantly, she felt a strange sadness at the thought of never seeing this man again.

"I'm tired of it. It's meaningless. I just want a simple life. Enjoying life is the most important thing," Ye Tianchen said with a smile.

"You're quite detached. Is there nothing here worth your attachment?" Han Jie asked, a bit piqued, testing him.
