Chapter 5. Now This is Grand Enough

After Song Yan left his ward, Yu Ze was finally alone. He stayed still, feeling as if he was in a trance, as if what just happened had been particularly unreal.

Yu Ze could only turn on the television and as he watched the news, he browsed through the latest developments in earthquake relief on his cell phone. Then he tried to contact Young Master Song for the first time.

“Please tell my manager to donate disaster relief in my name. The amount is about 1 million yuan, can be increased as appropriate.” Yu Ze sent the message to Second Young Master Song.

Song Yan was quick to reply: “No problem, I will do my best to perform my duty. You don’t need to intervene for my donation, it’ll be handled by a charity under my name. Other than that, I’ve only left you for half an hour, and I already miss my body.”

Yu Ze thought of Song Yan describing himself as a “perfect alpha body” and couldn’t help but laugh. But he also had to admit that Song Yan did have enough capital to be narcissistic.

He simply returned two words: “Thank you.”

Song Yan looked at the simple two words on the phone, and felt that Yu Ze was rather cold and uncaring.

But Song Yan soon found that, being a Film Emperor, the matters he needed to deal with at the moment were not a few. First of all, he now possessed countless fans as well as movie fans, all of whom were extremely concerned about Yu Ze’s current situation.

Yu Ze’s manager arrived, a middle-aged man with an almost balding head, named Du Xin Ran. Song Yan didn’t like him very much – nothing to do with his baldness or appearance at all. He felt that Du Xin Ran was a bit gloomy, but as Yu Ze hadn’t any objection, he of course wouldn’t fire his manager on the first day he became Yu Ze.

Song Yan told Du Xin Ran about the donation, and told him to go handle it. As for Song Yan himself, he was only responsible for signing the check,

“Are you sure? I suggest you…” Old Du* repeatedly confirmed with him.

* Lao Du; “Lao” means old, is similar to how “Xiao” means young

Song Yan’s narcissistic personality disorder* flared up on the spot. He would not tolerate a balding manager to call him into question!

“I’ve already made the decision,” he said, his tone utterly certain, “This is my style of doing things!” In a moment of carelessness, he’d even brought out his own catchphrase.

* 霸王病 loosely translates into “tyrant disorder”; but I went through google and thought that “narcissistic personality disorder” sounded more real. Symptoms include long-term pattern of exaggerated feelings of self-importance, and an excessive craving for admiration.

Afterwards, Song Yan recorded a small video and took a few photos to inform and appease the fans.

Yu Ze’s family also called to ask about Yu Ze’s situation. Song Yan permitted the assistant Xiao Chen to answer, saying that he himself wanted rest. But Yu Ze had too many brothers and sisters, so after a while, another call came in. In the end, Song Yan could only reluctantly take the video call.

Both Yu Ze’s parents were at their hometown. Yu Ze was the eldest of the five siblings, with two younger brothers and two younger sisters below him. Asides from the youngest sister, who still attended school, the other siblings all had their own families.

Faced with this large family, Song Yan hadn’t even enough time to figure out who was who and which younger brother was he video chatting with. The young man in the video had already enthusiastically said a lot, and even held up a drooling and screaming young child, saying that he wanted to show Yu Ze.

Song Yan didn’t know whose son it was, but his eyes were big and bright, his nose delicate; really a bit like Yu Ze. Song Yan had just learned that Yu Ze was Omega, which meant that Yu Ze could also give birth to such a child….which meant, in other words, the body he was currently using….

All of the sudden, Song Yan shuddered, and looked at the cute child in the video as if he just saw a ghost.

“Call him “Uncle”! “Uncle” likes Baby, “Uncle” likes Baby the most, right…”

“Goodbye!” Song Yan shouted and threw the phone away from himself.

Leaving the other party at a complete loss and facing a black screen.

Song Yan was in shock. He could only comfort himself; it’s fine; it doesn’t matter; just persevere for a month and a half. He must surely switch back with Yu Ze after that month and a half!

The situation of Yu Ze at Song Yan’s side was relatively calmer.

That’s not to say that things in the Song Family were simple, it was more precisely like the opposite; because the Song Family was too huge, there was a clear division of labor for everyone. As “Second Young Master Song” wanted peace, no one dared to disturb him.

That was, until the evening, when a helicopter landed on the rooftop of the hospital building – “Song Yan’s” parents had arrived.

Inside the hospital, they greeted the medical staff and took several pictures. Only then did they head to “Song Yan’s” ward.

A man walked in. For a split second, Yu Ze felt somewhat nervous, but he quickly calmed down. Because no one would believe that such a bizarre thing could happen. He just needed to become a character, just like he normally did at a filming; there was nothing to be nervous about.

Song Yan’s father, Song Ruo Zuo, was around 60 years old, his face grave. Yu Ze thought that Song Yan’s eldest brother, Song Qi, was more like Song Ruo Zuo.

“Dad.” Yu Ze called. This is a script, this is a script, he repeated in his heart.

Song Ruo Zuo glanced at him, his eyes blazing bright like a torch. Yu Ze thought he was about to lecture Song Yan and reproach him for almost getting into an accident just to chase a celebrity. He was ready to look guilty.

“Did you see the newly installed glass roof in the garden?” Song Ruo Zuo asked, “It’s too ugly.”

Yu Ze was startled, and then he treated it like an impromptu performance.

“I think it’s pretty good.” His tone was relaxed.

Song Ruo Zuo didn’t notice anything unusual about his son. He continued to talk, “Of course you think it looks good, that designer friend you found, the one you boasted a flood of heavenly flowers* about. What’s his name?”

* 天花亂墜 deluge/flood of heavenly flowers, like flowers falling from the sky. This means to make a very wild boast about something as if it were raining flowers.

Yu Ze certainly didn’t know the designer’s name. “Should I contact him?” he asked.

“Yes,” Song Ruo Zuo replied “Redo it.”

After saying those few words, Song Ruo Zuo looked at his watch, twice.

“Dad, it’s late,” Song Yan immediately said, “You should go back and rest early.”

“What time I do I have to rest,” Song Ruo Zuo grumbled. But he still turned and left in a hurry.

Once Song Ruo Zuo left, only then did his wife – that is, Song Yan’s mother – enter.

Yu Ze thought that this couple was quite particular. He’d asked Song Yan beforehand, what he should pay attention to when facing his parents. Song Yan had replied that they were an “ordinary married couple”, that asides from being super rich, they were no different from other people’s parents.

It seemed that Song Yan’s understanding of “ordinary married couple” was a bit different from that of ordinary people.

Song Yan’s mother was Shen Xi Jia. Being also from a prestigious family, she’d married Song Ruo Zuo back then in an alliance of two strong parties. Apart from the social networks of the Song family, Shen Xi Jia also had the collaborations between her own clothing line and the big brands. According to legend, her personal assets were quite considerable.

Shen Xi Jia was in her fifties, but her body and skin were well maintained, her makeup clean. When Yu Ze looked at her up from this close, he still didn’t think she looked like a person with two adult sons. Although the psychological age of one of the sons was debatable.

Unlike Song Ruo Zuo, Shen Xi Jia grabbed Yu Ze’s shoulder as soon as she came in, and carefully inspected the area where he was injured, her face full of distress.

“How’re you so careless? Is Qiao Ruo Ming that good? Is he worth it?” Shen Xi Jia’s questions fell quick like raindrops, Yu Ze didn’t even have time to answer.

“Mom…” He could only smile and hope that he could evade her questions. A son like Song Yan definitely must have fudged the issue with her many times.

Shen Xi Jia laughed, “Why do you call me “Mom” now?”

A big question mark rose in Yu Ze’s heart. Otherwise what else…

Fortunately, Shen Xi Jia continued to speak, “Now every time you call me “Mom”, I feel old.”

Yu Ze understood, there should be some other appellation between Song Yan and his mother. He smiled and said, “Today’s different, I’m injured.”

He again pointed to the arm with the cast.

Shen Xi Jia’s expression suddenly became softer. She sat down on the sofa and slowly talked with Yu Ze.

Shen Xi Jia felt there was something different about Song Yan today, as if he was especially able to settle down enough to patiently chat with her. It was only at the end, when she finally said she wanted to take Song Yan home, did he finally refuse.

Yu Ze followed Song Yan’s desire, and said that he wouldn’t return to family’s house to live for the time being, that he would still live outside after being discharged from the hospital. Shen Xi Jia was silent for a moment, and then said, “YanYan, you are a little different from usual.”

Yu Ze didn’t say a word.

Shen Xi Jia again said, “There’s one thing I want to tell you. I wanted to tell you about it before, but you always couldn’t settle down enough. This time you’re injured, maybe it will be a bit different…”

Her tone was so careful, that Yu Ze couldn’t help but ask, “What’s the matter?”

“I have decided to divorce your father,” Shen Xi Jia said, “I’ve made up my mind to divorce him.”

Yu Ze was shocked.

To make matters worse, it shouldn’t even be him here to listen to the secrets of the Song Family.

Shen Xi Jia continued, “I haven’t told your elder brother yet. But you know, your elder brother, he will eventually side with your dad, and he’s more cool-headed than you.”

“I…not calm,” Yu Ze muttered.

After Shen Xi Jia said that, she seemed to be in a much better mood. She reached out and patted her son’s hand, “Don’t you worry.”

She got up and lightly walked away.

As soon as Shen Xi Jia left, Yu Ze immediately picked up the phone, and sent Song Yan a message: “Tomorrow, face to face.”

He had just sent the message, when his cell phone rang. Yu Ze glanced at it and saw that the call had been put through; it was Qiao Ruo Ming who called. The call had already been connected as Qiao Ruo Ming was still on Song Yan’s list of high-priority communication. Yu Ze could only continue to act like Song Yan and at least deal with it.

“Can I see you now?” Qiao Ruo Ming asked in a soft voice, “Can I sneak into your ward?”

His voice was deliberately low, and it seemed somewhat charming.

But even those with no heart and no lungs* wouldn’t be in the mood to be intimate when their parents were going to get divorced.

* 沒心沒肺 no heart, no lungs; means a heartless/ruthless person

“Xiao Qiao,” Yu Ze said, “Now is not the time.”

“Then what time is the time?” Qiao Ruo Ming angrily returned.

Yu Ze was really not in the mood to flirt with him. He said, “I’m tired, I’m going to sleep.”

He hung up the phone.

The next morning, the weather was mild and everything seemed fine. The many with minor injuries would be discharged today, including Yu Ze and Song Yan.

The personal assistant was organizing the luggage for “Second Young Master Song”, and Yu Ze was drinking fruit juice as he checked his mobile phone. He’d already rented a villa under Song Yan’s name. Song Yan had of course also rented in the same cluster of villas.

Today they had arranged to stop at a restaurant near the villa. Yu Ze was still worried about how he would tell Song Yan the big news from yesterday. Knowing that your parents were going to divorce was already something to feel hurt about, to say nothing of having to be informed of it through someone else.

Yu Ze took another sip of fruit juice, and refreshed the entertainment news.

A line of the news headlines caught his eye – “Yu Ze donated a huge sum of 10 million yuan for the earthquake, ranks first among the current celebrities that have donated.”

Yu Ze spat out his mouthful of juice.

At the same time, Second Young Master Song was also appreciating the headline. He smiled and said to the assistant beside him, “Look, now this is a headline! Now this, is grand enough!”
