"Sir, I've arrived at my stop." The old man pulled open the car door and stepped out in one swift motion. "The driver's skills are excellent, may we meet again if fate allows."
"Hey, wait!" Zhao Mai shouted loudly. "What should I do next..."
Before he could finish his sentence, a scorching hot wind carrying a burnt smell rushed towards him, forcing its way down his throat and into his stomach. All the words he wanted to say were stifled, and his internal organs began to churn. The environment outside the car was absolutely unbearable. Who knew what kind of energy those variously colored lights were emitting? If there were all sorts of radiation, it could be fatal in minutes.
With a bang, the car door was slammed shut, sealing out the nauseating heat. It seemed that maintaining a sealed environment was the most important principle for survival. Zhao Mai, fumbling for a vomit bag, firmly remembered this point.
The old man, after getting out of the car, let out a roar, his body suddenly expanding three times its size. Two pairs of glowing wings sprang from his back. He tossed his suitcase aside and drew a glowing staff from it. After transforming into a five-meter-tall angel, the old man lunged straight at the nearest devil—the unfortunate one who had been glaring at Zhao Mai.
Once again, the battle was too fast to follow. After a flash of golden light, the vicious devil exploded into a shower of fragments. Black, red, and muddy blood splattered onto the car, then slowly slid down the exterior. Zhao Mai shuddered, realizing he was in an extremely difficult scenario, one where only a level 100 character could survive.
He repeatedly warned himself that he absolutely could not get out of the car. Whether it was angels or devils, their speed was far beyond what Zhao Mai could handle. Explosions were rumbling all around, and unknown beams of energy were flying everywhere. Even if no one targeted Zhao Mai, a single stray attack could mean the end of "THE·CHE."
With the wipers on, Zhao Mai drove slowly, carefully avoiding the battlefield. He wanted to find a corner where no one would notice him and wait until the battle was over. After all, this was the angels' territory, and with the advantage of time and place, their chances of winning were higher. Though not a saint, Zhao Mai had never committed major sins and was generally a good person. The angels probably wouldn't be too hard on him. It was like following a high-level player in a dungeon; as long as he didn't die, the benefits would be significant.
The idea was good, but truly avoiding attention was too difficult, or perhaps only a legendary thief could manage it. Naturally, a devil noticed Zhao Mai and his car. Regardless of the motive, violence was their first choice for solving problems, and destroying everything in their path was inevitable. Whether it was a massive broadsword or a scorching fireball, no matter how hard they tried, these devils couldn't harm Zhao Mai at all.
The flaming broadsword was almost as long as the car. When it swung down, only a blur could be seen. But as soon as it touched the car, no matter how fast it was, it would immediately stop, making no sound. Most devils ended up with broken wrists or split palms, while the car remained unscathed.
At first, Zhao Mai was terrified, but after a while, he realized he was invincible and began to swell with confidence. He turned the steering wheel, stepped on the gas, and charged straight at the devils. Usually, when a low-level character kills a high-level enemy, the rewards are substantial.
The devil sidestepped, easily avoiding the car. In that moment, his wrist and palm injuries had already healed. The flaming broadsword and elemental magic attacked together. Though they couldn't damage the car, they clearly expressed his anger.
Zhao Mai made a circle and drove at the devil again. The devil jumped lightly, avoiding the car from above. It spread its bat-like wings and floated in the air. Zhao Mai tried, but no matter how he pulled the steering wheel, the car wouldn't fly.
"Perhaps it can only fly during a crossover?" Though just a guess, he knew it wasn't far from the truth.
The devil wasn't a fool; he quickly identified his opponent's weakness. Despite being incredibly hard, the steel box that released the four-winged angel had no offensive capabilities or mobility. It was just a clumsy turtle. He flew around the car, attacking from all angles. The roof, windows, wheels, and even the exhaust pipe were not spared, and he stabbed at them with his massive broadsword.
None of these attacks were effective, and Zhao Mai remained unharmed inside the car. However, his confidence began to wane. After all, he had no combat skills, and relying on a hard shell would eventually run out of tricks.
The devil tried various offensive tactics and found them ineffective. If an angel had appeared at that moment, he would have abandoned the car and turned to his true passion for fighting and destruction. But the area was eerily calm, with no living things to interest him. So the devil began to think.
There's a saying that describes cunning: "as cunning as a devil." If Zhao Mai and the devil were to take an IQ test, Zhao Mai might not even finish the questions before being tricked into selling himself, perhaps even helping to count the money. A seasoned veteran had more than just combat skills; he had countless experiences and tricks. In less than half a minute, the devil had a good idea.
He landed, took large steps to the side of the car, and grabbed the undercarriage, lifting it. Zhao Mai felt the car tilt. "This damned car is just a useless, clumsy turtle!" he shouted in terror. In a flash, he had only one action: he slammed on the gas.
The wheels rolled over the devil's biceps and chest, then bounced on the ground, carrying Zhao Mai out in a lurch. The devil, seeing the wavy pattern on his chest, sneered and rubbed his hands, chasing after him. This time, he realized that the car could be flipped and that it only had front-wheel drive, making it immobile when the front was lifted.
So, one chased, and one fled. If the car was flipped over, Zhao Mai couldn't guarantee a good outcome. Even if hiding in the car was safe, losing mobility meant certain death. Angels and devils were incredibly long-lived beings, and a typical fight could last for weeks. But if a person were trapped in a car without food or water for weeks, it would be abnormal to survive.
He abandoned the idea of hiding in a corner and instead headed for areas with more people and intense battles, hoping a kind angel would drive away the devil chasing him. The evil creature had already tried to lift the car several times. Fortunately, "THE·CHE" was indestructible, and it crashed into him without letting him succeed, even rolling over him once.
Though not as tough as the car, the devil was still thick-skinned and unharmed after being run over. This couldn't go on; the devil might soon think of the "good idea" to crawl under the car and flip it. Zhao Mai looked around the battlefield and spotted an "idle" angel who had just finished her opponent. He didn't have the time to admire her curvaceous figure; "THE·CHE" flashed its headlights and honked as it charged towards her.
"Help! There's a devil behind me!"
