Chapter 25 : Guild’s Difficult Position
SInce the receptionist seems to be having a hard time when so many people are flooding to them, suddenly forming a crowd in front of the receptionist desk, I chose to sit on one of the available seats in the service area while looking around at the surroundings to understand the current situation.
It seems that adventurers were not the only ones in that crowd.
There’re many unfamiliar faces amongst them.
Moreover, they don’t seem to be an experienced fighter or enchanted weapon’s wielder.
It seems that the content of their protest was about the mass kidnapping and murder in the night.
In addition, the culprit left behind the crest of Ouroboros which was painted on the wall with the blood of their victims and a message for the army.
It seems the dissatisfaction grew even bigger when the adventurer guild’s staff washed away the matter of the bloody graffiti since there was no case similar to this in the past.
But… the culprit of those incidents was most likely the grey cult.
It seems their goal was the 《Trapezohedron of Dark Radiance》.
It seems the grey cult decided to make an even bigger move since the army didn’t respond at all with the matter of Vlad running amok in the shopping district.
Though it was true that the guild’s staff erased the bloody graffiti, it doesn’t mean that they did it on their own volition.
They were definitely being ordered by the army to do so.
「… Just what in the hell is the army doing.」
They should’ve made their move as soon as the news about the grey cult’s member sighted in the demon labyrinth and grey cult member sightings in general have increased.
Though everyone knew and understood that we could never rely on those guys, I never expected that they would be so blatantly ignoring the large scale incident caused by the grey cult.
「Those army fella, protecting the city should be their job right?」
Even Edda was speaking ill of them.
「Maybe… they simply don’t want to negotiate with the grey cult.」
According to Vlad, the grey cult’s goal was to retrieve the 《Trapezohedron of Dark Radiance》.
Despite their small number, every single one of the grey cult’s members were really powerful.
Properly speaking, the army gains nothing from fighting them.
Moreover, even if a total war did happen, the citizens would be the one who would be exhausted first from the grey cult’s terrorism.
And if the grey cult came with a demand at that moment, the army didn’t have a choice but to comply with their demand.
It seems the army didn’t want to let go of 《 Trapezohedron of Dark Radiance》.
Surely, I wouldn’t do such a reckless action like handing over an extremely powerful enchanted weapon to a dangerous enemy if I was in their position.
But, not making any kind of countermeasure after things progressed this far was even more ridiculous.
According to what the crowd said, the number of casualties and kidnapped victims had already surpassed twenty.
「At this rate, those guys will became bolder and bolder with their action…」
But… Everyone in the grey cult should be as powerful as Gaza or Vlad.
Small number adventurers couldn’t win against them.
Since those victims of abduction most likely had left this city to a safer place, the army shouldn’t have any choice but to form a subjugation team.
「Please! they killed my wife and kidnap my daughter!why doesn’t the army announce the appearance of the grey cult yet!」
「B-But, we also have no idea about that….」
The staff repeated the same answer for who knows how many times to the man who asked that question.
In fact, they too might have no idea why the army tried to hide that fact.
When the guild entrance opened, I unintentionally looked at that direction.
The one who entered was magus officer, Priah.
She came along with five subordinates following after her.
「As noisy as ever huh. The adventurer guild is under the jurisdiction of us, the army. Anyone who interrupts their duty will be punished… you know what I mean, right?」
She was squinting her eyes, looking around at the guild.
The noise in the guild silenced at once.
「Even though I don’t need to do this, if only you kept your silence from the very beginning. Good grief, what a bunch of useless Nahk.」
Even the people who complained to the adventurer guild couldn’t say anything back to Priah.
Reason being they knew far too well about what would happen to them once the army kept an eye on them.
Though the guild was so confusing, they opened a path for Priah and co to enter immediately.
When Priah was walking, one man jumped in front of her.
Priah was squinting her eyes in dissatisfaction.
The man then went down on one knee and bowed in front of her.
「M-Magus officer-sama…! what’s actually happening here? I can understand the reason why you call me presumptuous, but, I… really want to know if the army knows something about this! How you’re going to deal with the grey cult’s atrociousness! 」
That man was… the one whose daughter got kidnapped, and his wife was murdered by the grey cult.
Priah was looking at the man as if she was looking at trash.
I got a bad feeling about this.
Before I realized, I already rose from my chair.
「Well, I guess you come at the right time. Just when I need an example to shut the hell up of you noisy people.」
「Allow me to have the honor, Priah-dono.」
Priah’s subordinates surrounded the man who was down on one knee bowing in front of Priah.
「Shall we give him a little punishment?」
One of them had already touched their enchanted sword.
As expected, I couldn’t bear to see it.
It was no longer a violence.
They intended to kill that man even if they had to do that in a public place.
I leaped right away and stood in front of that man.
The people around us suddenly made a noise.
Priah and her subordinates sent a hateful glare toward me who stood in front of that man.
Especially the female magus officer called Priah… she sent a bone chilling look at my direction.
I felt about it before but she has an extremely terrifying gaze.
『You… really love jumping into danger huh. But, well, I guess I agree with you, this mistress hates that cocky woman too. Kick her ass Dean, strip her bare of all her battle arts till there’s nothing left of her for the army!』
Beelzebub got really fired up too.
But… that was impossible.
I mean, if I really could do that, I would kick their asses too.
But, that was impossible, at least for the current me.
Majority of the members of the army were more skilled enchanted weapon’s user than me.
And when it comes to Priah, I have to see her as someone as powerful as Fedor.
There might be some miracle on my side if that was the only case in this situation.
But, even more than that, I was far too weak to beat the organization called the Army.
The number of the army in this city alone was close to a hundred, and there should be at least ten people as powerful as Priah amongst them.
So when it comes to this kingdom scale, their number should be at least hundreds of times that.
After gulping down my spit, I opened my mouth.
「P-Please wait a minute. I think this problem is happening since the army is also waiting for the right moment like usual to deal with those guys from the grey cult. But, this man just lost his family because of the grey cult. I know that it’s impossible to get a result in which everyone is satisfied. But… please, at least give some leniency to him…」
I bowed my head, saying something that I would never expect to say to the army.
The motive behind their silence this time was most likely the interest of their big shot, that’s why they ignored the plea of the victims.
But now, I had no choice but to bear with it as I tried to curry their favor.
I raised my face a little bit to see the situation.
Priah was glaring at me with a bone chilling gaze.
