Chapter 32 : Rushing in
Edda, Mani and I who arrived in the village closest to 《Romburgh’s Underground Ruin》 by coach made our last preparations such as checking our equipment or replenishing our supplies and provision.
We then heading toward the waterwell, the meeting place of Gamdon’s suicide squad that we already agreed beforehand to meet up with the other adventurers/
From there, all sixteen of us would go to 《Romburgh’s Underground Ruin》 by foot.
In a normal situation, we would go with our coach since there are many demon beasts around the demon labyrinth.
「Let me remind you again! The goal of this mission is the annihilation of the grey cult enchanted weapon’s users who make their nest in UG 4th floor! We’re going straight to there!」
Upon arriving at the entrance of 《Romburgh’s Underground Ruin》, Gamdon raised such a speech as reminder for the other adventurers while hoisting 《Strong Axe; Gigantes》 on his shoulder.
「If I find out that there’s an as*shole who just wants to enjoy the reward without even doing anything by staying in the back, be prepared to become my 《Strong Axe; Gigantes》’ rust.」
…. Despite his repeated speech, he didn’t say a single thing about our tactic or trying to raise our morale.
The look on the face of the other adventurers doesn’t look good, Mani even looking at Gamdon with undisguised disgust on her face toward the leader who starts a mission by using his enchanted tool to scare his comrades.
「Sure enough, there’s a high chance for the expedition to collapse when it’s led by someone like this, can he at least tone it down. Even though our group is already an incoherent group of people without a good leader, what he said will only lower our morale and yet…」
Mani muttered in vexation.
I peeked at Edda’s face, to confirm her opinion.
Only to find out that she didn’t even try to hide her yawn, as if she just heard the most boring speech in the world.
「… Oi Edda, pipe it down, you’ll be in trouble if he remembers your face.」
His personality aside, there was no mistaking the fact that Gamdon was one of the top class adventurers in Romburgh city.
And has that kind of personality on top of that.
Definitely not someone you want to make an enemy of.
In addition, he was the leader of this grey cult’s subjugation force.
「I’m just tagging along since you decided to participate in the mission to subjugate those people who lay waste in Romburgh city. I’m not participating to curry a favor from that foul mouthed basta*rd.」
Edda told me so while glaring at me with a sleepy look on her face.
S-She’s unfazed…
That was so cool, but of course, that was the very reason why I’m worrying non-stop about you being unable to get used to the city life.
「Our goal is to save the captured hostages who’re imprisoned in UG 4th floor but… we can’t avoid the battle against the grey cultists in order to accomplish our mission. Our only chance to win against those people was by commencing an ambush and suppressing them as fast as possible. We will lose if it turns into a drawn out battle, in addition, they might flip out and kill the hostages too.」
After clearing his throat, Childick replaced Gamdon to explain our strategy.
「Am I clear, don’t go after the escaped enemy. Rather, it’s working to our advantage since it’ll decrease their side’s combat potential. Our goal isn’t to exterminate them, that’s the army’s job. Moreover, the fleeing enemy is bound to die due to the miasma in UG 4th floor unless they’re escaping with a environmentalist.」
I nodded lightly, agreeing with Childick.
Yeah, there’s no use in chasing them too far and reducing our combat potential.
It would be for the best if our enemy were running away while leaving the hostages behind.
In the first place… I doubt those grey cultists would choose to escape.
At the very least… Gaza, who we met a while ago in this very 《Romburgh’s Underground Ruin》 didn’t seem to be afraid of death.
The memory of Gaza’s smile filled with ecstasy upon knowing of her death was still fresh in my memory.
「Our main target is their leader, and their environmentalist. KIlling their leader, or environmentalists who’re essential for their survival in this dark and gloomy dungeon should be enough to shake their composure. But then… it might be quite a challenge to find their environmentalist. That’s why realistically speaking, our target is their leader.」
Different from Gamdon, Childick’s explanation is easy to understand and more detailed.
… Maybe it’ll be for the best if Childick was chosen as the leader of this mission from the very beginning.
「And then, we’re basically in the same situation as them. Though I’ve already explained before, Gamdon is the core of our strategy. Ciel and I are our only environmentalists. Though I know that doing this will only reduce our combat potential, please do protect us.」
The youth called Ciel whose name was just called by Childick was then timidly bowing his head.
「You’re talking way too long, Childick! Let’s enter 《Romburgh’s underground Ruin》!」
Childick bowing his head upon hearing Gamdon’s reminder
「Sorry, master Gamdon… well then, this’ll be the last briefing. The grey cult is strong. Though we outnumbered them, it doesn’t change the fact that some of us might die in the battle. That’s why I express my deepest gratitude to all of you who are risking your life for the sake of the kidnapped citizens by coming to such a dangerous place. Here, I wish for all of us to be able to go back safe and sound.」
The sound of clapping rose from the adventurers upon hearing Childick’s remark.
I was one of them.
Gamdon aside, this subjugation team might not come true if not for Childick.
I’m really glad that Childick was in this Romburgh city.
Gamdon was looking at the adventurers with an uninterested look on his face, he might be vexed since the adventurers reaction was different compared to when he spoke to them.
Thus, the sixteen of us descended into 《Romburgh Underground Ruin》.
We were advancing smoothly through UG 1st floor, UG 2nd floor, and even UG 3rd floor.
The demon beast we met along the way was no big deal too, only on the level of battle rat.
"
"
Since hunting battle rats wasn’t cost effective, a normal party usually composed of equal or less than five people.
The reason for such a small number was because the odo that could be gained upon killing a creature was divided amongst the party members, thus dampening the amount each member would receive.
Basically, a party with a large number of people was rather inefficient for raising one’s level.
Even in the case of battlebone for example, the sum of one battle bone of a battle rat divided by sixteen was only enough to buy a glass of ale.
「Haah!」
Gamdon charged forward and brandished his battle axe to split the head of the hobgoblin.
… Though this was the first time I saw him fight, I realized again that his title as top adventurer of Romburgh wasn’t just for show.
Not even Edda was capable of executing such an attack that crushed a hobgoblin in a single hit.
His attack might be backed up by somesort of 《Battle Art》.
